Fibromyalgia
WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA? Fibromyalgia, sometimes called fibrositis, is a common condition that is associated with widespread aching, stiffness and fatigue, and originates in muscles and soft tissues. People with fibromyalgia are found to have multiple tender points in specific muscle areas. Most individuals complain of aching and stiffness in areas around the neck, shoulders, upper back, lower back and hip areas. Many patients have no underlying disorders while others who develop fibromyalgia may have conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis , spinal arthritis or Lyme disease . Some people have symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, tension headaches and numbness or tingling of the extremities. CAUSE The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. There may be a link between fibromyalgia and a sleep disturbance, since most patients have disruptive sleep patterns. Other factors that may contribute to the development of fibromyalgia or sustain symptoms are psychological stress, immune or endrocrine abnormalities, or biochemical abnormalities in the central nervous system, such as altered serotonin levels. HEALTH IMPACT
  • Fibromyalgia is common, affecting approximately two percent of the U.S. population.

Persons with chronic pain frequently see many practitioners in their quest for a diagnosis and relief from their symptoms. Unfortunately, this quest often resembles the story of the six blind men, each stationed at a different part of the anatomy and then asked to describe the elephant. A Guide for Relatives and Companions Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a chronic invisible illnesses. It is not a musculoskeletal dysfunction. It's a disorder of the informational substances such as neurotransmitters, hormones, peptides, and other biochemical messengers which regulate and run the systems of the body and mind. It causes hypersensitivity to all sorts of stimuli, so it can amplify pain.

A Physician's Guide to Fibromyalgia Syndrome
By: David Nye MD (nyeda@uwec.edu)
Introduction
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is an under diagnosed disorder of unknown etiology affecting over 5% of the patients in a general medical practice (Campbell 1983) and an estimated 2-4% of the general population (Wolfe 1993), women more often than men. Patients complain that they ache all over. A large number of other symptoms are often present, particularly fatigue, morning stiffness, sleep disturbance, paresthesias, and headaches (see table 2). On examination, areas of focal tenderness called tender points can be demonstrated in characteristic locations (table 3). Most patients can be helped substantially with treatment.
Etiology
A comprehensive review of the many theories of the etiology of FMS is beyond the scope of this paper. While there is still not a majority of FMS researchers who support any one theory, significant progress is being made in identifying an etiology, and much useful evidence has been collected. FMS was first described as an inflammatory condition ( Gowers 1904 ). When no evidence of inflammation could be found and an association was noted with depression and stress, the concept of "psychogenic rheumatism" was advanced

The Fibromyalgia Recovery Program offers a comprehensive natural approach to the complex problem of Fibromyalgia
The Fibromyalgia Recovery Program was developed by Dr. Rob Robertson and Dr. Bill Hennen in late 1999. It is the most comprehensive program ever developed for Fibromyalgia. It addresses all of the health conditions that are known to exist with Fibromyalgia sufferers. I have created this site to try and help others with this health problem. This program helped me get my life back. I suffered with Fibromyalgia for over 20 years. Since this program helped me, I think it could help just about anyone. Ed Murry
Fibromyalgia is a very complex health issue. It can't be addressed successfully with one-dimensional approaches. The comprehensive nature of this program along with the quality and effectiveness of the individual products are why you can expect success with the FibroFree TM Fibromyalgia Recovery Program.
It is important that you understand how these products work in order to gain confidence in the program. Please browse through the site to learn more about it. It is our wish that you become completely healthy again. You don't have to learn to live with it any more.
"It is very rare that people don't get results with this program if they will give it three months." Rob Robertson, MD

The Empowerment Station [ Home ] Articles Books
Welcome!
This site is dedicated to and was created for fibromyalgia, CFIDS, and other chronic illness sufferers who believe the in mind, body, spirit connection. It consists of a compilation of messages and book recommendations that I have created regarding living with a chronic illness. I have had FMS, MPS, dysautonomia, and CFIDS for over 13 years. I started to write small articles about the lessons I have learned from living with an illness about three years ago and sharing them on the FMS board on AOL. When I realized that not everyone wanted to hear positive messages, I decided to e-mail the articles only to those who were interested in reading themand an e-mail list was created. The list of articles and people who wanted to read them grew too large to handle through e-mail, and so this site was created. I continue to learn from and about this illness, and so I continue to write about subjects such as keeping a positive outlook, relying on spirituality to guide us through rough times, and also to relay helpful advice that I have read from many different sources. I hope that everyone can gain some comfort, empowerment and love from these messages. I enjoy feedback and suggestions, so please feel free to e-mail me anytime.

Why do I feel depressed? Does fibromyalgia cause permanent damage? ... What else can I do to relieve my symptoms? What is fibromyalgia? Fibromyalgia is a condition that causes pain in the muscles, joints, ligaments and tendons. The pain occurs in areas called "tender points". Common tender points are the front of the knees, the elbows, the hip joints and around the neck. Fibromyalgia affects up to 5% of the population, including children. This disorder might be hereditary (run in families), so you may have family members with similar symptoms. What are the symptoms of fibromyalgia? Increased sensitivity to pain is the main symptom of fibromyalgia. Many other symptoms also occur in people with this disorder. Symptoms may come and go. You may have some degree of constant pain, but the pain may get worse vary in response to activity, stress, weather changes and other factors. You may have a deep ache or a burning pain. You may have muscle tightening or spasms. Many people have migratory pain (pain that moves around the body).
