(CAN) Alice lists five life goals, that, when achieved, she hopes will make her into the child her parents want her to be. Over the course of the next three months, she explores herself and her world, discarding or achieving these goals in the process. In this coming-of-age novel, issues relevant to teens are dealt with in a humourous, yet realistic manner. Girls particularly will enjoy the world as seen through Alice's eyes.

After a summer spent at a camp run by her aunt, Adrien discovers, through love, friendship and spirit dreams a new appreciation for life and a better understanding of herself. Secondary Reading Position Paper
(revised 02/2000) PHILOSOPHY
All students deserve the opportunity to develop the reading skills that will allow them to participate fully as citizens of the global community. The continuing development of higher level reading and thinking skills is the domain of the secondary schools and must be supported in the home and in the community. Some secondary students do not have the basic reading skills necessaryto develop these higher level reading and thinking skills and must be provided intensive instruction and support to help them achieve success in this critical area. Our mission is to provide adolescents with the necessary reading skills and strategies to meet the more difficult learning and problem-solving tasks they encounter at school and beyond graduation. FOCUS ON LITERACY
Because literacy development occurs throughout life, a comprehensive reading focus is needed for secondary students. "The literacy learning that takes place in adolescents between the ages of 10 and 18 is of critical importance in preparing for life in and out of school" (Vacca, 1998). The development of a district and building climate that supports literacy will include:
* A district-wide literacy plan based on available data that addresses the needs of HSD2 students.

Monday, April 7th, 2003 11:14 pm Cherry blossom audio riot
Cherry blossoms don't have any of the melancholy beauty that the autumn trees in the midwest bear. They are strictly nice to look at, in an almost too cute way.
But I'll never again be able to run along side a river with dozens of heavy drinkers from around the world while passing through a soft downpour of pink pettles. The large pink trees just went on and on, hanging over the river and the picnickers. By coincidence there were fireworks at the end of the "race". Then there was food and bi-lingual flirting.
I've setteled on a final post-July plan which I will keep under wraps for at least a week to deterime its stability. I'm also considering ways to avoid mass riots when I finally do reveal my future.
I'm supposed to hang out with a few of my students for a cherry blossom pincic this weekend (they bloom in different areas at differnt times- this weekend they're coming to my town). However, through several long outings I've found these students to be rather dull so I'm looking for an out.
Work is quite tolerable and even nice. Someday I'll ask why I left these reasonably well paid seven hour workdays.
