Embroidery and lace
The best time i have is when i am sitting with a piece of embroidery for a costume, or when i sit at my lace pillow and make a piece of lace for a costume project i am making.
Often i find patterns from old silk fabrics and copy them to a border for embroidery. I make the embroidery with silk floss thread gold and silver gimps for outline and small seaquins to spangle the whole image. I use chainstitching because it is very suitable, and it is very easy. Lace patterns have survived and are also easy to copy. Lately i have started to make Chantilly lace and it is worked in silk thread.
A big project i made was a sackdress to be used for a Madame de Pompadour hairstyle. I embroidered the stomacher and the panels of the overskirt and a border at the underskirt.
Here is the beadembroidery for my new project a robe a l'anglaise. The leafpattern i took from an 18th. century silk fabric.
This is an embroidery sampler worked in chainstitches.
Here is the Chantilly lace i am making for the dress. It is made in pure silkthread.

Serpentine was formed 375 million years ago.
The Lizard Peninsular as we see it today is constantly on the move. This slow, but ever constant, movement began some 375 million years ago - and on the other side of the Equator!
Its geographic and geological migration began some 10km below what geologists call the Rheic Ocean. This ancient sea, situated for the most part where South America now lies, witnessed the emergence of a huge combination of the earth's geological forces.
Molten rock, forced under extreme pressure within the earth's mantle, pushed itself inexorably through the Rheic Ocean's seabed to form yet another, submerged, landmass. Comprised of sediment, volcanic lava and igneous rock this new and massive rock formation was the emerging form of what we now know as the Lizard Peninsular.
The colossal movement of neighbouring supercontinents, Gondwana and Euramerica, set into motion massive landmass movements upon which the Lizard rock formation was carried.
These forces, and the passage of several hundred million years, now find the Lizard rock tagged onto the end of Britain with its familiar name of the Lizard Peninsular.

FOREST STITCHERY Member of the Federation of Small Businesses For All your Needlework and Lace making supplies Hi, Iam really sorry to tell you , but Forest Stitchery is closing ! The final straw came when Fabric Flare went out of business . I had a really excellent working relationship with Pat and her family and it came as a great blow when they closed. It has made life very difficult finding a new reliable supplier. I have also suffered two car accidents in a short space of time and as you get older these things are less easy to shrug off. DMC thread is now reduced to 40p a skein plus postage, but please be aware when you place an order that stocks are now limited, so please give me extra numbers to work to so I can make your order worthwhile to you. Aida is now £10 per metre, again plus postage, ( Imtr is £1 postage ) .The bargain page will be updated a often as possible. I hope you all have many years of stitching fun and thank you all for your support over the last eight years. Hoping to provide a similar service is an existing customer of mine.
