82. Battlefield Earth The Movie
Information on the film, interview of the director, credits of the three leading male actors.
http://www.battlefieldearth.com/movie/movie.html
A fter years of anticipation, L. Ron Hubbard's monumental science fiction epic Battlefield Earth has come to the motion picture screen. Long considered a prime story for the film genre, the grand adventure of Battlefield Earth awaited only the right script adaptation before everything came together to make it a movie reality. With a Corey Mandell screenplay, which captures the
immense scope and irrepressible spirit of Hubbard's novel, that time has at last arrived.
During the first stages of preproduction, the Battlefield Earth film project attracted such top names in the movie business that it began receiving world-wide media coverage a full year in advance of its release, and quickly became one of the most keenly anticipated movies of the summer. Multiple Academy Award-nominated actor John Travolta took on Battlefield Earth in the capacities of the starring villain and as co-producer. The director was two-time Academy Award-winner Roger Christina, who George Lucas identified as the visionary director who could translate the scale, drama and vivid spectacle of the Battlefield Earth adventure to the screen. Barry Pepper, most familiar to audiences as the memorable sniper in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning Saving Private Ryan, signed on to play the hero. Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award-winning Forest Whitaker, who worked with John Travolta on Phenomenon, joined the production as Travolta's alien sidekick.

Earth Day in Your Neighborhood HOW TO DO AN EARTH DAY ON YOUR BLOCK THIS SPRING A Guide for Kids From 2 to 122 WHY DO AN EARTH DAY ON YOUR BLOCK
Because it's fun and it is good for the environment and the neighborhood
CELEBRATE THE ENVIRONMENT
Because parties are fun, they are an easy way to learn things. An Earth Day can be a party that reminds us of what we know about living gently on the Earth and show us new things to do. People feel better after sharing a good time together. They talk and get new ideas to help the Earth. Then they have a good reason to act on what they learned. Just as the Fourth of July reminds us to love our country, Earth Day reminds us to love and care for the Earth and our fellow creatures. If every neighborhood lived in har-mony with nature, most of our environmental problems would be gone.
CELEBRATE OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
A stronger feeling of friendship on the block will make people feel better about their block. Stronger friendships on the block mean that people will look out for each other better. More people out doing things on the block can help reduce crime because people who want to steal don't want to be seen. There may be people who need help on your block. But if no one knows them, then no one can help. Your Earth Day will help people get to know each other.

93. The Bible And The Flat Earth? - ChristianAnswers.Net
Discussion about the Biblical evidence seeming to show that the earth is flat.
http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-c015.html
Did Bible writers believe the earth was flat?
No, this false idea is not taught in Scripture! S ome Bible critics have claimed that Revelation 7:1 assumes a flat earth since the verse refers to angels standing at the "four corners" of the earth. Actually, the reference is to the cardinal directions: north, south, east, and west. Similar terminology is often used today when we speak of the sun's rising and setting, even though the earth, not the sun, is doing the moving. Bible writers used the "language of appearance," just as people always have. Without it, the intended message would be awkward at best and probably not understood clearly. [DD] In the Old Testament, Job 26:7 explains that the earth is suspended in space, the obvious comparison being with the spherical sun and moon. [DD] A literal translation of Job 26:10 is "He described a circle upon the face of the waters, until the day and night come to an end." A spherical earth is also described in Isaiah 40:21-22 - "the circle of the earth." Proverbs 8:27 also suggests a round earth by use of the word circle (e.g., New King James Bible and New American Standard Bible). If you are overlooking the ocean, the horizon appears as a circle. This circle on the horizon is described in

http://www.watchingyou.com/marfa.html
"The Marfa Lights, mysterious and unexplained lights that have been reported in the area for over one hundred years, have been the subject of many theories. The first recorded sighting of the lights was by rancher Robert Ellison in 1883. Variously described as campfires, phosphorescent minerals, swamp gas, static electricity, St. Elmo's Fire, and "ghost lights," the lights reportedly change colors, move around, and change in intensity. Scholars have reported over seventy-five local folk tales dealing with the unknown phenomenon. - 1988"

97. Earth And Asteroids
Short discussion of Yucatan and Tunguska impact events and current asteroid search programs.
http://www.3dearth.com/asteroid.htm
Earth and Asteroids: Astronomers have found more than 200 asteroids with orbits that cross the earth's orbit. Some scientists project that several thousand of these earth-crossing asteroids may exist and that as many as 1500 could be large enough to cause a global catastrophe if they collided with the earth. Still, the chances of such a collision average out to only one collision about every 300,000 years.
The most recent major encounter between the earth and what may have been an asteroid was a 1908 explosion in the atmosphere above the Tunguska region of Siberia. The force of the blast flattened over 200,000 hectares (over 500,000 acres) of pine forest and killed thousands of reindeer. The number of human casualties, if any, is unknown. The first scientific expedition went to the region several decades later. This expedition and several detailed studies following it found no evidence of an impact crater. This led scientists to believe that the heat generated by friction with the atmosphere as the asteroid plunged toward the earth was great enough to make the object explode before it hit the ground.
If the Tunguska asteroid had exploded in a less remote area, the loss of human life and property could have been astounding. Military satellites-in orbit around the earth watching for explosions that could signal violations of weapons testing treaties-have detected dozens of smaller asteroid explosions in the atmosphere each year. In 1995 NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and the U.S. Air Force began a project called Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking (NEAT). NEAT uses an observatory in Hawaii to search for asteroids with orbits that might pose a threat to the earth. By tracking these asteroids, scientists can calculate the asteroids' precise orbits and project these orbits into the future to determine whether the asteroids will come close to the earth.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. Donald Savage
NASA Headquarters, Washington, D.C. News Release: 2003-001 The first asteroid discovered to orbit the Sun in nearly the same path as Earth will make its closest approach to our planet this month before scurrying away for 95 years. The asteroid, named 2002 AA29, traces an unusual horseshoe pattern relative to Earth. The asteroid alternately leads and follows Earth relative to Earth. The asteroid alternately leads and follows Earth around the Sun without ever passing it. "In some ways, the Earth and this asteroid are like two racecars on a circular track," said JPL's Dr. Paul Chodas, who discovered the object's unusual motion. "Right now the asteroid is on a slightly slower track just outside Earth's, and our planet is catching up." On January 8, 2003, the tiny body will come within approximately 5.9 million kilometers (3.7 million miles) of Earth, its closest approach for almost a century. "Unlike racecars, the two bodies will not pass when they approach each other," Chodas said. "Instead, the combined gravitational effects of the Earth and Sun will nudge the asteroid onto a slightly faster track just inside Earth's, and it will begin to pull ahead." In 95 years, the asteroid will have advanced all the way around to where it is catching up to Earth from behind. A similar interaction with gravity from both Earth and the Sun will then push the asteroid back onto a slower outside track, and the pattern will repeat. To an observer moving with the Earth, the asteroid appears to trace out a horseshoe pattern.

THE SUN - EARTH CONNECTION
View the Dynamic Sun, Click here INTRODUCTION You may think the sun is a constant, steadily glowing, featureless sphere whose only concern to us involves where and when it will appear. But while it does supply steady warmth and light, it undergoes changes that are turbulent and dynamic with far reaching effects on the environment of Earth and the activities of its inhabitants. The sun is a huge natural thermonuclear reactor, fusing hydrogen into helium and producing incredible temperatures, intense magnetic fields, storms, flares , and other phenomena that would dwarf the earth in size and energy production. Its visible surface is like a pot of boiling water, with bubbles of hot, electrified gas ( plasma ) circulating up from the interior, and bursting out into space releasing a steady stream of particles known as the solar wind which fans outward through the solar system. One of the most important solar events is the coronal mass ejection (CME). The solar equivalent of a hurricane, a
