The Shock Trauma Center Medical Biotechnology Center The pharmacy school's pharmaceutical sciences laboratories, located throughout the campus, are superb learning centers for those looking to pursue a career in industry, research, and academia. Gerald Rosen, PhD, JD, Issac E. Emerson Professor, teaches and conducts research at the Medical Biotechnology Center, one of five of the Biotechnology Institute's Centers. Here, PharmD, PhD, and postdoctoral students have access to the Institute's cutting edge facilities and to Dr. Rosen's research, which focuses on the mechanism by which free radicals regulate host immune response and control general physiology. Center on Drugs and Public Policy The Center on Drugs and Public Policy contributes to informed debate of drug policy issues in our society. In addition to conducting research on major drug policy issues, the center organizes conferences and workshops and serves as a consultant on drug issues to organizations in the private and public sectors. Fellowships or externships are available to professional from industry, state and local agencies, foreign governments, or universities based in the Baltimore-Washington area. Internet Drug Information Service Founded in 1995, Maryland's Drug Information Service has responded to more than 15,000 drug information inquiries from people in 40 countries. As a free service on the Internet, drug information is available on-line 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Maryland students can spend six-week clinical rotations at the Drug Information Service and learn valuable patient counseling and drug information-gathering skills. According to Pharmacy School Associate Professor and Director David Mays, PharmD, BCPS, job opportunities for information specialists are plentiful, and include drug information centers in many chain and independent pharmacies and academic institutions throughout the country. | |
