There is a new rage for ethnic Indian styles in She has evolved her own design arrangementswithin the the garment without losing the essence of the costume.
http://www.indiaprofile.com/fashion/abhas.htm
Exquisitely styled and intricately embroidered, Abhas, the traditional costume of the region of Kutch, has entered the world of high fashion. Successfully adapted to modern styles by Anjali Mangaldas, this beautiful garment has become a rage with the fashion conscious women.
In the village of Kutch, the women looked beautiful in their fabulous Abhas as they swayed to the music. The twinkling lights played mischievously over the gold and thread embroidery while the sequins and badla work sparkled continuously. A woman in an abha, the traditional costume of the Khatri, Memon and Korja Muslim communities of Kutch is a sight to behold. This garment from Kutch, a district in Gujarat, has a history that is as colourful and exciting as the garment. In ancient times the women wore the abha embellished with beautiful tie-dye designs, zari thread embroidery that was very minute and intricate embroidery in coloured silk or cotton thread in a combination of a variety of stitches, integrating minuscule mirror discs into its elaborate and distinct pattern.
The word abha-has been derived from aba a word commonly used in the middle eastern countries which means a top garment or a mantle. The abha based on an age-old traditional classical cut and style, is basically a

A useful SCA source with studies of historic dress and coins. I've included it here since basic Byzantine costume has the same or similar shapes as early Middle and Near Eastern clothing. In fact, my early period persona would likely have worn tunics very much like them.

Folkwear Patterns @ Lark Books
Source of Folkwear Patterns - some great Near and Middle Eastern patterns. If you don't want to draft your own, Folkwear makes some patterns that you can use - quite a number of tunics, some vests and coats, and several different styles of pants, even a burnous (Moroccan cloak). Most Folkwear patterns include information on traditional (although not necessarily SCA authentic) embroidery and decoration.
Max Tilke: Oriental Costumes Their Designs and Colors
Really useful to see some of the range of traditional clothing in the region - most from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I own his book Costume Patterns and Designs which is worth having if you are intersted in "ethnic" clothing from Europe and Asia.

Programs
The education programs of Northwest Folklife bring the folk, ethnic and traditional arts to children, their families, and the professionals who serve them in venues such as schools, community centers, and museums. Integrating folk arts into standard curricula and existing programs helps pass on cultural values. This interdisciplinary approach helps to teach ways of engaging with, learning about, and responding to the world around us. Photo of Gloria Fujii by Chris Bennion
What are the folk arts?
Northwest Folklife defines the folk arts as the expressive traditions of groups (cultural, ethnic, religious, familial, occupational and regional). This includes the performing and visual arts (such as music, dance, storytelling, painting, costume design and craftwork) as well as social customs (family folklore, holiday celebrations and games).

New Zealand Maori Costume
for Fashion Dolls
I have great pleasure in presenting you with my Fashion costume for Doll collectors. If you collect the "Dolls of the World " series, this costume will appeal to you. It has won a " Blue Ribbon " in a July 1999 USA competition. It has been featured in an August 1998 article in the popular Barbie doll collectors magazine Barbie Bazaar " . It is unique, and ethnic - an authentic likness of the Traditional Maori Costume. The costume is carefully created and produced here in New Zealand, and available for collectors all over the World direct from this site. The costume consists of a close fitting bodice overlaid in traditional design braid. The grass skirt is made from genuine flax grasses with a red fabric underskirt and braiding waistband.
The feather cloak is amazing. It is really beautiful. No two are alike. It is made from feathers laid by hand in a intricate pattern on a hessian backing with a braid tie. If you have a preference for lighter or darker feathering, please specify.
Accessories are a headband, an imitation "greenstone" tiki necklace, and poi- flax balls used in traditional action songs. The costume comes to you beautifully displayed and packaged .
