Flying Gem Aviaries
Their story starts off at the animal hospital were I worked. Their previous owners asked to board them for a couple of weeks while they went away. They left them with a cage, that was so tiny they could just about stand and they could not even stretch their wings. The cage was meant for a cockatiel. They also left them with a bag of food that contained at the most a cup of food. As weeks turned into months, we knew that they were not coming back. With no calls from the owners it was decided that they were abandoned. So I adopted them in August of 2001.. In my opinion these three different families are well represented in Australia. The first group "Aratinga" with the Sun, Jandayas and Peach-fronted Conures being the most common members available. The Nanday Conure is the only member of its genus. It is very well represented in Australia and it is one of the most beautiful Conures. A Cinnamon mutation of the Nanday is also being bred. The last but not least group are the members of the Pyrrhuras . With the Green-cheeked and Maroon-bellied Conures the most commonly available here in Australia. For a list of other Conures here in Australia write to A.N.C.A. National Exotic Bird Registration Scheme , GPO Box 1443, Canberra ACT 2601. back to top ^

Westbrook, Queensland Conures' range/habitats are quite large and varied, from dry semi-desert, savannahs, and woodland forests to equatorial rainforests. Stretching from Mexico in the north through to Argentina in the south plus east to include some Caribbean Islands, plus almost every country in between. Feeding on the wild blossoms, native and cultivated fruit, berries, seeds and insects. Some species cause the local farmers problems in eating seed and fruit crops and for over a hundred years have been exported to many countries (e.g. USA, United Kingdom and Australia) before the ban on importation of birds into Australia was put in place in 1945. This was lifted in 1990 with limited importation until 1994. We can only hope the ban is lifted again to allow more Psittacine to be imported, but that is another story.

From " Poodles and more " Episode COA-106
Doves are the universal symbol of peace and joy.
Conures resemble parrots and macaws but are much smaller and less expensive.
Conures are very playful and loving.
Doves and conures are excellent as a child's first pet, as they require little maintenance and are a lot fun. White Dove
  • Albino form of the Indian ringneck dove
  • Known worldwide as a symbol of peace and joy.
Notes
  • Doves have been know to live as long as 20 years!
  • Pigeons and doves are the only birds that feed their young with a milklike substance; the babies put their beaks into the mother's throat to receive nourishment.
Conures
  • Parrot-type birds from South America
  • Tame
  • Playful
  • Better if raised in captivity from birth
  • Live in burrows in nature, so they like to be carried in pockets.
Food
  • Conures prefer fruit and large seeds such as sunflower seeds.
  • Doves need smaller seeds and greens.
  • Both birds need grit, a substance that helps them digest food.

GREESON'S BABY PARROTS
Updated:
September 23, 2002
Don and I have been breeding birds since 1980. As you can see, I have been a bird lover for a really long time. This picture was taken in 1953! We work hard to do things right and consider it a labor of love since we enjoy them so much. We started exhibiting at bird shows in 1984..took seven out of ten on the top bench, including Best in Show, at that first show, and don't you know we were hooked.
We took many years to accumulate our breeding stock, selecting only the very best of each species. As a result our babies are of excellent quality. We never breed two birds just to produce more.. the goal is always to improve on their beauty and confirmation. I serve the hobby as an American Cockatiel Society Panel Judge. We breed many species of exotics including African Greys, Conures, Pionus, Cockatoos, Macaws, Quakers, Ringnecks and Amazons. Please check out our baby birds for sale. .you may find we have just the bird you are looking for. This list is updated frequently.
Over the years I have published ten different booklets on birds.

91. Sun Conures
Sun conures. Sun conures breed in the warmer months of the year, OctoberJanuary, and have a clutch size of 2-4 eggs; incubation period is 24-25 days.
http://www.angelfire.com/mac/birdmanaviaries/sun.html
S u n C ... L Before you decide to breed sun conures there are things to consider before buying them, NOISE, sun conures are VERY noisy especially when it is feed time and early in the morning. If you buy a pair that have breed for the previous owners take caution and consider why they are selling there breeding stock, they maybe selling them because they breed unsuccessfully and had problems when they breed, such as egg eating or abandoning the nest and the young birds die. I recommend buying 2 young unrelated birds and pair them up together, but you might have to wait 1-2 years before they breed. I waited 2 years for my 2 year old pair to breed and there first clutch was unsuccessful this is because they are young and inexperienced. I breed my sun conures in a suspended aviary, they are easy to keep clean and there is little maintenance, the suspended aviary measures 2m long x .9m square. The nest box is mounted on the inside of the cage and measures 350mm deep x 250 wide x 250 long and a 75mm hole 2in from the top of the box with a 2in thick bed of pine or hardwood shavings NOT TREATED, corks may also be placed in the bottom of the nest box as well, they chew the corks and this stops them from destroying the box.

93. Maroon Bellied Conures Parrot Parrots
Maroon Bellied conures. All conures have the distinctive bold patch aroundtheir eyes which remind us that they are related to the Macaw family.
http://www.p-pp.tv/articles/mbconure/maroonbelliedconures.htm
var site="sm1winner" Maroon Bellied Conures The Maroon Bellied Conure is also called the red bellied conure, the green cheeked is also very similar. There is little difference between these close relatives who are sometimes mixed up. The green cheeked tend to have a little more red in their tails, the older green cheeked will also develop beige patches around the ear. The other main difference in appearance is that the scaly markings on the chest will usually extend much lower on the chest of the maroon bellied. All Conures have the distinctive bold patch around their eyes which remind us that they are related to the Macaw family. These Conures have become popular as pets, . They like all conures have a lot of character, their distinctive markings and small bodies make them a suitable parrot for beginners, they like to fly but also love to be petted. Make sure you allow your pet the opportunity of flying, then it will be happy to sit on your finger and be petted. These little characters will enjoy tickles and being fed on the hand, watch out for their beaks as they can nip too! Although Conures are not renowned as 'talkers' they can usually manage their name, 'Hello', and mimicking the telephone. Sometimes individuals will learn a limited repertoire, others have been reported chattering away.
