Posted on: 10/19/2001 PHCC Chapter Donates To Vo-Tech Schools By James Siegel / Training and Education Editor. E-mail him at jamessiegel@achrnews.com. After learning that VTSS was having difficulty in finding funds for student and instructor apprenticeship training manuals, the chapter donated nearly 450 complimentary copies of the manuals for Connecticut vo-tech schools to use in the classroom. Connecticut PHCC purchased the manuals from the national association at a discount, and then delivered them to VTSS. According to Bob Huppelsberg, PHCC Connecticut executive director, the manuals were purchased with funds raised by the Student Manual Plumbing Fund created by the state chapter. VTSS estimates the value of the books exceeds $40,000. Publication date: Related Features

http://www.soundschool.com/descrip.htm
School Description
The Sound School offers an educational opportunity unique in New Haven and in the United States. Its multi-building facility is located on the waterfront on Long Island Sound, an ideal setting for the marine orientation of this regional vocational aquaculture program.
The Sound School is a comprehensive high school with a focus on aquaculture and the marine sciences. The Sound School education program prepares students for college, technical schools or for entering employment upon graduation. The water program includes learning to sail 16-foot sharpies, recently acquired JY15s, having classes on the 90-foot schooner "Quinnipiack," and rowing in our 16-foot dories. This provides an extraordinary chance for urban and suburban youth to explore a whole new world associated with the water.
The Sound School has recently added five major curriculum areas associated with its vocational aquaculture program. The Sound School Regional Vocational Aquaculture Center is a four-year-old program that provides career and occupational education in the various skills and areas associated with the study and wise use of marine and fresh water resources. Aquaculture production, nautical drafting, boat building, fisheries gear technology, natural resources management, environmental appreciation, vessel handling and safety at sea, and community service are several of the topics that students may select to study.

Today's School Complex
Fields Memorial School is located in the Town of Bozrah in southeastern Connecticut. Bozrah, with a population of 2,300, has a selectmen form of government, with a board of finance and a board of education. The Bozrah Board of Education submits a budget request to the board of finance on an annual basis. The allocation of funds is approved by the voters either at a town meeting or a referendum called for that purpose. Bozrah is also the home of Congressman Sam Gejdenson who can be reached via e-mail at BOZRAH@HR.HOUSE. GOV. Fields Memorial School is a kindergarten through grade eight (K-8) school with a population of 240 students. It is the only school in the community. High school students (9-12) may choose to attend several different secondary schools: Norwich Free Academy, Montville High School, State of Connecticut Vocational and Technical Schools, and several private schools in the area. The board of education will pay tuition to public and state schools for Bozrah students. We are very proud that our students do well at the state science fair. This year, a Fields Memorial School student captured a first place award. We are also very proud that our students do well in high school. We attribute this to our small class sizes which average about fifteen students per class.
