COLOMBIAN GEOGRAPHY
Located NorthWest of South America, Colombia is the fourth largest country in that region. The great Cordillera of Los Andes, which divides into three different parts: Occidental, Central and Oriental; runs through the Colombian territory from North to South. Towards the East, following the Orinoco, extensive plains of herbal vegetation, used for cattle raising, exist. In the South (Amazon), virgin jungle abounds and indian tribes reside. The Cauca River, affluent of the Magdalena Eventhough most of the country is located in the Torrid Zone, there is a wide variety of climates, depending on the altitude. On high grounds, rain is common, but there are two seasons of dryness- from December to March and from July to September. On High grounds coffee is cultivated (Colombia is the second world producer). 95% of the world production of emeralds, amounts of gold, silver, platinum, copper, uranium and other minerals are extracted from the rich ground. With the fields that were discovered in the Peninsula of Guajira, Colombia posseses the biggest carbon mines in Latin-America. Apart from the cordilleras Occidental, Central and Oriental, in the country there are other independent massives. The main ones are the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in the caribbean coast, and the Serrania de la Macarena, in the orient. The rest of the country is made up of lower grounds: in the north the Caribbean plains, in the west the coastal and rustic strip of the Pacific and in the east the llanos of the Orinoco and the tropical jungles of the Amazon.

General Objectives
Preprimary
The social studies program is the basis for instruction in K-4 and K-5. Concepts in math, language, science, and the Life Curriculum are built on the various units of the social studies program. The curriculum is constantly revised as are the ways in which student progress is assessed. Parents' input is encouraged and is often made part of the educational process. In preprimary the program allows the children to progress and master objectives as they mature and explore their environment. The teachers closely monitor the students' progress in the given curriculum objectives
Primary
Starting from the 2nd grade, the minimal requirement for social studies is three 45 min. periods a week. "Sociales" is taught by a specialist, independently from social studies, during 19 periods a year. Social studies encompasses the study of ecology (water, air, soil, and recycling) integrated with science; of basic geography (with emphasis on map skills), of geographical features and of native American cultures. ""Sociales" covers the understanding of the economy, government and laws of Cali, Valle, and colombia, and of pre-Colombian history and native Indian cultures Social studies and "sociales" teachers complement their teaching with readings, field trips, reports, and art projects. Students observation (anecdotal), tests, and quizzes are frequent means of evaluation.

Foster Wheeler Review
Summer 1999
Cerveza, Colombian for Beer
When Ardila Lulle Group, one of the largest suppliers of soft drinks in Colombia, South America, decided to expand into the monopolized beer market and take on the competition, Foster Wheeler Andina, S.A. was there to deliver a full range of services to help make it happen. They included project management, detailed engineering, permitting, subcontractor selection, equipment procurement, and construction management.
Time to Market
Christmas in Colombia means celebration: great food and cerveza. Colombians drink, on average, 40 liters per year, second largest per capita consumption in Latin America. To capitalize on an important beer-drinking tradition, Ardila Lulle wanted to introduce Leona, their first brew, in time for Christmas 1995. They issued notice-to-proceed to Foster Wheeler in August 1992, but full design got underway in February 1993 after Ardila Lulle selected the brewing technology supplier.
In one of their first activities, Foster Wheeler guided Ardila Lulle through a site selection process, using extensive infrastructure expertise coupled with an intimate knowledge of Colombian geography and resources. The team ultimately chose Tocancipa, a small rural farming and dairy community about 30 kilometers (km)north of Colombia's capital city, Bogota, as the optimum location.
The region north of Bogota is a summer resort for wealthy Bogota residents. Their haciendas overlook field after field of vivid flowers, Colombia's number two export after coffee. Brewery aesthetics was one of Ardila Lulle's main criteria: modern, clean, and pleasing to the eye, a plant that welcomes visitors. Ardila Lulle is proud of their award-winning plant and Foster Wheeler's performance.

University of Leon and ICFES supports the work of the University of Pamplona The first impression they had of our campus could not be better; all the personnel were ready to receive them and after the honors and the presentations, they were prepared to get to know us thoroughly. For almost two hours they walked around the university campus, looking at each building, each dependency, each laboratory. They were impressed by the space of our university campus and it is difficult to obtain such esteem, since they are used to the majesty of the European and the American universities. The more they looked, the more impressed they were. They were emotive moments when the head Dean of the Spanish institution, Dr. Angel Penas Merino, went into the CAIMIUP and missing child in the classroom went out to greet him. The emotion was unique, but it did not stop here, the greenhouse impressed our visitors so much, which they wanted to construct one equal to ours for their institution.
After having walked around University Campus, they went to the Virtual Library "casa Agueda Gallardo". Fortunately, there was a group of children who received training classes, and the Spaniards were even more impressed. Later, they went to the "Casa Domus" where they could see the work of the of Advanced, Virtual Studies, with correspondent classes and well as local one; then, they went to the center of Means and Publications and later "La Casona central" (the big old house) where they saw the fitness and weight lifting gymnasiums, finishing up the tour of our facilities.

Colombia
Geography Colombia is located in Northern South America, bordering the Caribbean Sea, between Panama and Venezuela, and bordering the North Pacific Ocean, between Ecuador and Panama. It is about three times the size of Montana with a tropical climate along the coast and eastern plains, but cooler in the highlands. Some natural disasters include highlands subject to volcanic eruptions, occasional earthquakes, and periodic droughts. Deforestation, soil damage from overuse of pesticides, and air pollution from vehicle use are some environmental concerns presently. Colombia consists of five regions, the Atlantic coastal region, The Pacific coastal region, The Andean coastal region, The Llanos, and the Amazon region, all having their own varieties of music.
