Following basic technology courses, students are asked to pass IC³ Certification exams to provide a standardized and unbiased computing measurement criteria to individuals in the class. In addition, active duty military personnel, veterans, and their family members taking exams in the Microsoft Office Specialist certification program can now use their Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) education benefits to cover examination fees. More information on this opportunity is available here As a Certiport Center, you can combine training with testing to help individuals earn a certificate that may help them make a career change, qualify for a promotion, find a new job, learn a new skill or enter the work force.

Qualifications and Curriculum Authority ON Q Issue 11 - November 2001 Back Issues Errata: for printed copy
Vocational GCSEs
Vocational GCSEs are due to be available for first teaching in September 2002. They will cover levels 1 and 2 (foundation and intermediate) of the National Framework of Qualifications, and will initially be available in eight vocational areas: art and design, business, engineering, health and social care, ICT, leisure and tourism, manufacturing, and science. The new specifications should be available early in 2002. Vocational GCSEs are equivalent to two GCSEs in terms of size and demand, like the existing Part One GNVQ. Each vocational GCSE provides an introduction to a broad vocational area. They enable progression to further general study at intermediate or advanced level, including GCE and VCE A levels. Vocational GCSEs can also lead to modern apprenticeships, or full-time employment, including further learning, possibly in the form of NVQs. Each vocational GCSE consists of three units. In most subjects, two of the units are internally assessed through students’ portfolios of work, and one is assessed externally. Qualification results will be reported on the same scale as other GCSEs (from A* to G), but will be reported with two grades (eg A*A* or EE) to reflect the volume of the achievement. While the vocational GCSEs are explicitly designed to be taught at key stage 4, they are also available post 16. Vocational GCSEs in engineering and manufacturing both meet the national curriculum programme of study requirements for design and technology. The vocational GCSE in ICT meets the programme of study for IT. The vocational GCSE in science meets the requirement to study science at key stage 4.
