Volume Clouds by Rory Hallman
After you are through with this tutorial you will know how to create realistic clouds with volume fog.
Volume clouds are processor intensive when rendering. This file can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.
Step 1:
For volume clouds to work you must first define the limits of the scene. For the renderer to know when and where
to stop rendering you must create a backdrop. A booleaned sphere or a box works fine. For my example I will use a booleaned
sphere. Make a hemisphere with a radius of 50 and 16 segments.
Click on the scale button.
Scale the sphere down 10% while holding shift. 3dsmax will ask you if you want to clone the object, select copy and click ok.
Move the inner sphere so it is offset with the outer sphere. Step 2: Next boolean the spheres together.
Select the outer sphere.
Under geometry pick compound objects. Select boolean then pick copy and select the inner hemisphere. You now have made a good backdrop. Step 3: Set up a camera inside and the sphere. Tilt the camera so that it has the inside of the sphere in it's view.

The Dark Clouds.
This is a local page for the UK Midlands. covering Paranormal events and Strange incidents around the region.
The idea came about one evening whilst at work. Someone very kindly placed the text printout of an usual incident in front of me saying "This is right up your street".
Unfortunately the incident had occurred two nights before, and I was in no position to approach the individuals involved.
Having seen the X Files, the first incident was placed into a blue folder marked 'X' and was filed away under the title "Nutters /Domestic".
The next week however the file was reopened and a second incident at the same location added.
The 'X' on the front was made bigger and so I started my very own version of the X files.
I now have a large collection of maglite torches a Black suit and a list of incidents I never thought really happened except in the movies.
The first and Second, the starting points follow.

There is a problem for the reader of texts about China and the Chinese, or of Chinese poems in translation, due to the variation in spelling of Chinese names and terms. This is caused by the many systems of transliteration used in the past when rendering Chinese names into English. It may make it difficult for the reader who knows no Chinese to recognise the same person place or term in different guises. Modern China uses the Pinyin system (e.g. Beijing for Peking) for Romanization of names, which is still unfamiliar and awkward for most readers in the West who are used to the older systems. I have therefore used traditional spellings in this text so that readers can recognise the names when referring to the many translations of Chinese poetry that already exist in English, and to older historical and biographical texts. However readers wanting to refer to modern Atlases of China, for place names, or to other modern texts, will find a comprehensive list of equivalent names and terms towards the end of the text. This includes a Pinyin spelling for each name or term and for place-names the modern province name to assist when referring to an Atlas.

What are clouds?
Clouds are water. Either small liquid water drops or tiny pieces of ice. Meteorologists rank clouds according to their height and whether or not they are flat or puffy. The graph below is Dan's easy way to remember clouds.
Flat Puffy Low Stratus Cumulus Medium Alto stratus Alto cumulus High Cirrostratus Cirrocumulus Tall Cumulonimbus
(or Thunderstorm) Nimbus means rain cloud.
There are some other specific types of clouds, some of which are very rare. Visit Dan's Cloud Gallery by clicking on the images above or visit Plymouth State College's "Cloud Boutique" for some fine examples and descriptions of the many varieties of clouds.
How are clouds formed?
Clouds form when the air rises. As a blob of air rises it expands and gets colder, the colder air cannot hold as much water as warmer air. As the temperature and air pressure continue to drop, tiny water droplets group together into clumps called cloud droplets. At this point, the blob of air becomes a visible cloud. If the cloud keeps going up, the cloud droplets will clump together and form water droplets. These water droplets are too heavy to float in the air and they fall from the sky as either rain or snow.

EXERCISE 10
CLOUDS
Introduction
The following index will lead you to the information necessary to complete your exercise concerning clouds. Be certain to completely answer the questions included in your laboratory manual for this exercise.
Definition of a cloud
A cloud is a visible aggregate of minute particles of water or ice, or of both, in the free air. This aggregate may include larger particles of water or ice and non-aqueous liquid or solid particles, such as those present in fumes, smoke or dust. The appearance of a cloud may be described by its dimensions, shape, structure, texture, luminance and color. Clouds come in many sizes and a seemingly endless variety of shapes. They may display a very threatening appearance or be exceptionally beautiful and peaceful. This exercise is designed to help you identify the different types of clouds and to gain a deeper appreciation for them.

79. CLASSIFICATION OF CLOUDS
cloud. TABLE OF CLASSIFICATION OF clouds. GENERA, SPECIES, VARIETY. étage;.TABLE OF CLASSIFICATION OF clouds, (continued). GENERA, SPECIES, VARIETY.
http://www.met.tamu.edu/class/Metr304/Exer10dir/classification.html
CLASSIFICATION
OF CLOUDS
Clouds are continuously in a process of change and appear, therefore in an infinite variety of forms. It is possible, however, to define a limited number of characteristic forms , frequently observed all over the world, into which clouds can be broadly grouped. A classification of the characteristic forms of clouds, in terms of "genera," "species" and "varities" has been established. Intermediate or transitional forms, although observed fairly frequently, have lesser longevity and their appearance is not very different from that indicated in the definitions of the characteristic forms. Finally, there exists a group of clouds, rarely or occasionally observed, not included in the following classification. Some of these "special clouds" consist for the greater part or in their entirety of non-aqueous liquid or solid particles. The definition of a cloud given above is therefore not applicable to all special clouds. Included in the "special" clouds are the nacreous clouds which by day resemble pale cirrus, but after sunset, are characterized by brilliant colors. They occur at altitudes between 21 and 30 kilometers (70,000 and 100,000 feet). The physical constitution of nacreous clouds is still unknown. However, the simultaneous occurrence of various diffraction colors in more or less irregular patterns indicates the presence of minute particles, possibly spherical ice particles.
