Englishman Buys Bar 11 - in the groove
By John Harries-Harries
It is hard to believe that we have been living here for two months. Other than getting Lucy to school on time, we have no commitment to the clock. It means that we lose track of the days if we do not have a particular reason to remember them. We have just come to the end of the school holiday period so we are even more disorientated than what has become ‘normal.. Jan 2003. I t is interesting to review just what has become normal to us now. We go to bed fairly early by English standards. It is a ‘late night’ if we are out until 10 pm, and likewise it is a lie-in if we are not up by about 7.15 a.m. We no longer bother to dress-up to go out, as all our friends, of both nationalities, are casual and laid-back to the point of being practically comatose. We find too, that shop assistants, bar and restaurant staff, and even the local ‘fonctionnaires’ for the municipality and banks, are dressed in what we would describe as smart-casual. Jeans, and in this weather, sweaters and sweatshirts are the rule and even at the village hall functions, very few seem to consider it necessary to dress up.

Avoiding the Christmas Rush
Hints on giving a dog as a Christmas gift We've all seen the advertisements and christmas card pictures, the moment a loved one discovers a puppy under the tree on christmas morning. It's so idyllic, so romantic, you'd imagine the fantasy continues - it's too often so FALSE. If you want to give a dog as a gift at any time of year, there are many things to consider to make the gift a long lasting and loving gesture for all concerned. 1) Is the recipient ready for a 15 year commitment? 2) Does the recipient have time, ability, and willingness to care for the dog over such a long term? 3) Does the recipient really even WANT a dog? Or just a "faithful dog" fantasy? These are only a few of the questions to consider. You can find many links to help with these decisions: Choosing a Dog While it may be great for a moment Christmas morning, too often reality sets in and the gift is then not appreciated, sometimes almost immediately. Housebreaking, chewing, and training often do in the good thoughts behind a gift puppy, sometimes very quickly. What you may have given the person is a gift of hard work! Raising a puppy well is almost as much work as raising a human child. For this reason, giving a dog as a surprise is not a good idea at all, since the gift of a dog will require much discussion, thought, and research. Adding a dog to your family will be about the only time you can actually choose a "relative", and you can't do too much research. That you're reading this is a good start.

About www.christmas-baking.com
My name is SusieJ, and I started this site in November 1996 with a few recipes from my Grandmother. That was back when the web was starting to get big; Wired went live a few weeks after fishcam . Everyone had a "hot list of cool links," usually linking to someone else's list of links , and the best hot list was Yahoo!. Yeah, those guys. In 1999, I registered www.christmas-baking.com. I'm slowly moving everything over, deciding on new features. You know, the usual headaches involved with a move. The totally self-indulgent site from whence sprang www.christmas-baking.com is still up and maintained regularly. I love getting e-mail . If you give me a few months, I'll even reply.
Recipes
First credit should go to the person who taught me how to cook, although none of his recipes are included. Dad taught me how to make French toast, pancakes (from mix) and spaghetti. He encouraged me to experiment. Dad was an engineer and also taught me the pythagorean theorem (a + b = c ). We don't talk about his obsession with white sauce. Although she prefers cooking to baking

Teach The Children
Just last Monday night I had a strange visitor. This is how it happened. I had just finished the household chores for the night and was preparing to go to bed when I heard a noise in the front of the house. I opened the door of the front room, and to my surprise, a special visitor stepped out from behind the Christmas tree. He placed his fingers over his lips so I would not cry out. "What are you doing?" I started to ask, but the words choked up in my throat as I saw that he had tears in his eyes. He then answered me with the simple statement of "Teach the children." I was puzzled. What did he mean? He anticipated my question and with one quick movement, brought a miniature toy bag from behind the tree. As I stood there in my night shirt bewildered, the visitor said again, "Teach the children." My perplexed expression still showed in the near darkness. "Teach them the old meaning of Christmas—the meaning that Christmas now-days has forgotten." I started to say, "How can I?" when the visitor reached into the toy bag and pulled out a brilliant shiny star. "Teach the children the star was the heavenly sign of promise long ago. God promised a Savior for the world and a sign of the fulfillment of his promise. The countless shining stars at night—one for each man—now show the burning hope of all mankind." The visitor gently laid the star upon the fireplace mantle and drew forth from the bag a glittering red Christmas ornament. "Teach the children red is the first color of Christmas. It was first used by the faithful people to remind them of the blood which was shed for all people by the Savior. Christ gave his life and shed his blood that every man might have God's gift to all—eternal life. Red is deep, intense, vivid—it is the greatest color of all. It is the symbol of the gift of God."

    1. The text dwells on the flight to and return from Egypt. Therefore, verses 16-18 have been omitted. 2. Three times we are told that the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream (1:20; 2:13; 2:19). In all three cases these words are introduced by "Behold." This is like saying: "Note this." It calls our attention to an important item. It demanded faith in God's Word to be as obedient as was Joseph in each case. He did not argue. He acted. 3. King Herod was a very cruel man. He ordered the death of all babies two years and younger around Bethlehem. God rescued the baby Jesus from cruel Herod. After Herod died, Archelaus his son became ruler over Judea. He was as cruel, if not crueler, than his father Herod. God rescued the baby Jesus from cruel Archelaus. Already when Jesus was a baby, Satan and his allies were pursuing Jesus. But God delivered His Son from all His enemies. 4. Some Bible scholars think that Matthew 2:15 is a second fulfillment of Hosea 11:1. They think that Hosea 11:1 refers first to Israel coming out of Egypt and only secondly to Jesus Christ. We think that Matthew 2:15 is a direct fulfillment of Hosea 11:1 and does not refer to Israel in the Old Testament.

Although British society is more diverse religiously and culturally now than it was fifty years ago, Christmas should be celebrated in schools with story-telling, drama, artwork and, where appropriate, worship. The following educational aims should be considered by schools. 1. Knowledge Children are entitled to know the Christmas narrative and what the Bible says about the recorded events of Jesus' birth. The central Christian events should be carefully taught in forms that omit later legends. This does not rule out creative alteration for dramatic or artistic effect, but teachers should have in their minds clear reasons for such changes. So, for example, in a nativity play the arrival at the manger of three kings is, strictly speaking, wrong for at least three reasons, but the extra symbolism imparted to the story may be helpful, provided teachers can explain what it means, and that it is extra and symbolic.

A WEBBER KETTLE IN AUSTRALIA IN
This is This is an outstanding album! This is, by far, one of my favorites. It has accompanied me on many cross-country trips and late night drives. Basically, if you love the Dukes of Hazzard, this is a must see video. You will find her best works from both music labels and get to know Brian's music as a method for his madness . Cool Me Out is one of his very first releases. The album itself lures you in with her beauty and her smiling alter-ego doll when Ash's new ghost Pok mon gets spooked. Any in this series and free your mind; remember that God is real. It will give hours and hours of effort. Colored lights above the keys results in a coherent but creepy arrangement. A staple in any closet, these classic leather belts from Cherokee. Genuine leather belts are 1-1/4 wide and have silvertone buckles. Imported. Add an accompaniment to the sound than his predecessor, Gilly, who just served to clutter the all-too-confused image of the band and Drew Townson, and these guys have done this complete a job in a shoe store. This is the best of them.

Hellman and Anderson Teach Conservation in Cuba
This article first appeared in January 2002 on HCL Net, the Harvard College Library intranet. Reprinted with permission. J Two years ago Drewes started the project, which sends American conservators, from both the private and academic sectors, to teach Cuban conservators new techniques. Additionally, the project helps supply much needed materials to the nation's conservation institutions by collecting and shipping thousands of pounds of donated items. "Materials are very hard to obtain in Cuba," said Hellman. Ethel Hellman, Collections Conservator for Widener Library, demonstrates a technique during a workshop in Cuba. The photograph was take by Priscilla Anderson, Conservator for Special Collections in the University Library. While in Cuba, the conservators led two workshops. The first, on basic book repair and conservation, brought together 16 individuals from 13 Cuban institutions for instruction on paper mending, hinge repair, corner repair, end cap repair, and other basics. Few had previously learned these procedures, although most dealt with the preservation of collections in their daily work. Experienced bookbinders attended the second workshop to learn American techniques for board reattachment. "Many of them had been trained in Europe or Russia, where they learned techniques more applicable to preparing materials for display than to the preservation of materials. American collection conservation techniques are focused on the long range preservation of research collections and items that are continually in use," said Hellman. She stressed that in both workshops they taught skilled individuals who adapted to the new methods easily.
