  • Need Addressed by this Course
The end of the 20th century finds itself distinguished by a profound hunger and thirst for God, meaning and purpose in life. Many say we have a space for the Spirit within us, but the challenge is to identify what spirit(s) defines our relationships with ourselves, others, God and creation. Taking a Chance on God provides a format for individuals to reflect upon their life in the context of the experiences, wisdom and insights of many people from both the past and present and to identify "kindred spirits" and supportive practices on life's journey. Through a process of reading, reflection and writing on selected topics, class participants will come to a deeper understanding of their personal call in life as well as the major themes and developments which shape our journey as seekers. Up to menu
    Purpose of this Course
Taking a Chance on God is designed to give substance and form to what Abraham Joshua Heschel once wrote, "God is hiding in the world and our task is to let the Divine emerge from our deeds." In light of Heschel's insightful challenge, the course provides a context for individuals to explore, examine and hopefully better understand the ups and downs of their spiritual journey in relationship to the collective wisdom of past and present writers in the Christian tradition as well as the various ways in which God reveals God's self.
