Primate anatomy, behavior, ecology, and evolution Goals in Anatomy and Biological Anthropology are: A) to describe, quantify, and explain variation in anatomy and behavior of living and fossil monkeys, apes, and humans; and B) to use these data to reconstruct human evolution. Research emphasizes: 1) Miocene and Plio-Pleistocene hominoid fossils; 2) functional anatomy, skeletal biology, and biomechanics of modern monkeys, apes, and humans; 3) observations of locomotor, social-maintenance behaviors, and habitat use of free-ranging monkeys and apes; 4) growth, development, reproduction, and aging of humans and nonhuman primates; and 5) finally, development of a theoretical approach that highlights the role of the individual in evolution by intertwining survival features with those associated directly with reproductive outcome.
Comparative studies of soft tissue anatomy and skeletal size, shape, internal structure, and composition combined with locomotor and postural biomechanics and behavior describe survival life history features that are expressed in a life cycle patterned by reproductive characters of growth, reproduction, and life span. Current research uses skeletons and individual life histories of chimpanzees from Gombe National Park, Tanzania, studied by Jane Goodall for three decades, as a case study to connect evolutionary products and processes. The skeletons of Flo, Flint, and others, each with known sex, age at death, and behavioral observations during life, permit testing of hypotheses about what can -and can not - be determined from bones and teeth about species and sex characters, individual life experiences and reproductive history, and ultimately, shifts in patterns of variation in populations that can produce observable, evolutionary change.

3. Welcome To Primarily Primates, INC.
San Antonio, Texas sanctuary specializing in chimpanzees, orangutans, new world and old world monkeys. Offers a history of the facility, press clippings, details of rescued animals, and a virtual tour.
http://www.primarilyprimates.org/
Primarily Primates, Inc., is a unique non-profit animal protection organization that provides sanctuary, rehabilitation, lifetime care and shelter to various non-native species of primates, birds, mammals, and reptiles that otherwise would continue to suffer from abuse, neglect, or be killed as unwanted surplus. Founded in 1978, Primarily Primates has grown from a facility caring for three monkeys to its present community of more than 600 primates, 150 birds, and various mammals, including a small number of wallabies, horses, bears, and black leopards. As you explore our online sanctuary, you will have the opportunity to meet many of these animals and hear their stories, take a virtual tour of our grounds, read news and information about us, and find out how we can be contacted.
"My only hope is that one day all chimpanzees in research facilities will be retired and no more chimpanzees ever used again."
Dr. Jane Goodall, Scientific Director, The Jane Goodall Institute Primarily Primates, Incorporated could use your support. If you care to help support this great organization please mail your gifts to this address:

    Meet my cousin the chimpanzee
Most people take it for granted that humans are more important than apes. But this assumption has more to do with double standards than biology
    Richard Dawkins

Sir, you appeal for money to save the gorillas. Very laudable, no doubt. But it doesn't seem to have occurred to you that there are thousands of human children suffering on the very same continent of Africa. There'll be time enough to worry about gorillas when we've taken care of every last one of the kiddies. Let's get our priorities right, please!
This hypothetical letter could have been written by almost any well-meaning person today. In lampooning it, I don't mean to imply that a good case could not be made for giving human children priority I expect it could, and also that a good case could be made the other way. I'm only trying to point the finger at the automatic, unthinking nature of the speciesist double standard. To many people it is simply self-evident, without any discussion, that humans are entitled to special treatment.

Primates and Royal Music of Uganda
    Another Land, Inc.
Click here for info Embark on a musical and wildlife adventure in Uganda. Join Nichole Smaglick in exploring the music of two tribes in Uganda, the Buganda and the Busoga. In remote villages, master musicians will teach us their driving rhythms under the jackfruit tree. Nightly, we join in their celebrations and in the mornings we are awakened by bird calls. We partake in magnificent game treks - on foot, via boat, and in 4-wheel drive vehicles - that reveal the flora and fauna of the region, chimpanzees, and a variety of other primates. And for those with the passion for wildlife encounters, gorilla tracking may be added either before or after our adventure.
