Canadian Military History is a "journal-in-a-magazine-format" published by the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies since 1992. Presently in its ninth volume, CMH continues to fulfill its original mandate, this being to explore all aspects of Canada's military history, from the earliest days through to the twenty-first century. Particular emphasis is given to the First and Second World Wars, but CMH also carries articles and features on the Seven Years' War, the War of 1812, the Northwest Rebellion, the South African War, the Korean War, United Nations Peacekeeping Operations, as well as more recent events such as the Oka standoff of 1990 and the Persian Gulf War. The articles contained in the pages of CMH are written by professional historians and are well illustrated with photographs and maps. As well, interesting narratives, anecdotes, official reports, veteran accounts, regular columns and book reviews are included in each issue. A notable addition to CMH is a regular section contributed by the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. In this section readers will find special articles concerning museum exhibitions, recent acquisitions, upcoming events, and the museum's extensive collection of Canadian war art.

American military bases quit Bermuda in 1995
Their unique history from 1941 to 1995 and enduring contributions
Bermuda Islands, where two major US military bases, built in 1941-2, flourished until 1995. At one point, there were four US bases in Bermuda. When the USNAS and US Naval Annex left in 1995, The Bermuda Government immediately took over, relocated many civilian organizations there and destroyed some buildings deemed unsafe. In March 2002, Bermuda's legislators enacted the United States Bases (Termination of Agreement) Act 2002. It formally terminated the US leases. The US Government has made a one-off payment of US$ 11 million to replace Longbird Bridge which was included in the lease. but will not pay financial compensation for environmental damage including heavy metals, asbestos, 500,000 gallons of jet fuel and raw sewage in Bassett's Cave at the old US Naval Annex.

SAVOIR FAIRE: A History of Women in the Canadian Military
Barbara Dundas (speaker of November SAVOIR FAIRE) and Melissa Humphries (a friend).
Research and Information Services In keeping with the marking of Remembrance Day, the SAVOIR FAIRE seminar held in November focussed on the experience of women in the Canadian military. Using selections from her recently published book A History of Women in the Canadian Military, Barbara Dundas chronicled the contribution of women serving their country from the Northwest Rebellion, in 1885, to the present day. This pictorial work, a millennium project of the Department of National Defence, surveys women’s military history and pays tribute to the female soldier. In her preface to the book, The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, states: "this millennium book affirms the importance of Canadian women in our nation’s military history."
In her presentation, Barbara Dundas provided an overview of women’s participation in the Canadian military experience and discussed the challenges she faced in researching and writing the book, as well as in selecting the many photographs and works of art reproduced therein. In her review of the experiences of women in the Canadian military, Ms. Dundas explained the motivating forces that brought women into service through the years. She also described the institutional, economic and social forces that influenced which roles within the military were open to women.

Few subjects rival military history for its richness of scope and texture, whether in the study of wars and battles or the soldiers and the officers who lead them. Tactics are often determined by the capabilities of the era's weaponry, but the life of the soldiery has timeless parallels. Society and weaponry change, but the soldiers' grumbling over his food, the weather and his perceptions of mistreatment are found in all eras. From Marius' Mules to the overburdened troops at Juno beach, throughout history the soldier's individual experience at the hands of his own officers has followed familiar threads of loyalty and bravery often balanced by a healthy serving of disbelief and distrust.
