This preschool and kindergarten song is from Marilyn G . who says, "E xemplify unity through song and help children understand that even though we may be different, we are the same in many ways. Send Dr. Martin Luther King's message to others." Description: This is a song but it could be learned as a poem. Passports
Promote multicultural awareness and self esteem with this early childhood education activity by Matina Materials: Paper and a camera. Description: We made passports by stapling white paper to construction paper. Then from January until May we studied a different country. We studied Russia, Africa, Ireland, Israel, China, Antarctica, Australia, Mexico, Japan, France, Hawaii, and Saudi Arabia. Then for each country the youngsters wore a hat or a prop from that country (ex: France, beret). We took pictures of each child wearing his or her hat or prop. Then I glued the pictures into each child's individual passport and gave it to them along with a world traveler certificate at the end of the year. They had lots of fun "dressing up!" World Passport

"History is people's memory and without a memory, man is demoted to the level of lower animals."
Malcolm X "Not having been taught black history except for the once-a-year hanging up of the pictures of Booker Washington, George Washington Carver, and Mary McLeod Bethune that marked Negro History Week we did not know how much of the riches of America we had missed."
Alice Walker , author of The Color Purple
The quilt of America's rich history includes patches from many peoples and many cultures. Black Americans are featured in abundance on that quilt. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Louis Armstrong are there. Harriet Tubman and Langston Hughes are too. Rosa Parks and Chuck Berry. Barbara Jordan and Muhammed Ali. Without their inclusion, America's quilt would lack color, texture, life…. This month February, Black History Month is a time when many teachers draw special attention to the contributions of black Americans to "America's quilt." Whatever grade the students are in, teachers can find plenty of rich Black History resources on the Internet Web sites that can help students everywhere "stitch together" a portrait of the African-American experience.

Celebrate Black History!
Black history and culture is such a part of the American fabric and the school curriculum that it's difficult to imagine a time when that wasn't so. Established as Negro History Week in the 1920's by Carter G. Woodson, February was chosen for the celebration because Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln were born in this month. Extended to a month-long celebration in 1976, Black History Month is an opportunity to emphasize the history and achievements of African Americans. LESSON PLANS Famous African-American Fabric Portraits
Doris Metcalf, who recently retired from the Florence (Alabama) City Schools, submitted this lesson, in which students create a fabric-portrait exhibit of famous African Americans. (Grades 6-12) Five Lessons in Black History

Black History Month, a celebration of the history, culture and identity of black people around the world, is being marked throughout the month of February at Concordia by events including a science exhibit, a fair of art, poetry, food and dance, and a lecture series.
However, three black students, who are not varsity athletes, as well as two staff members and one professor are featured in other advertisements.
Moreover, there is a lack of solidarity at the university as a whole. Because no central black association exists at Concordia, students have little leverage, no one to advocate on their behalf and no support system.
Another element of the afrocentric village would be links to Africa, like sustainable projects with AIDS children.
