PC 2001 System Design Guide (co-authored by Intel Corporation and Microsoft Corporation). The basic goal for these requirements is that the operating system, devices, and end users cannot detect the presence of the following: ISA slots or devices; legacy floppy disk controller (FDC); and PS/2, serial, parallel, and game ports. (Other exceptions are noted in the specific requirements.) NOTE: Microsoft uses these requirements as testing guidelines in the Windows Logo Program.
Minimum BIOS Requirements for Legacy Removal
The system must meet the requirements defined in this section to ensure that the operating system identifies the computer as a "legacy free" system. Revisions to the ACPI specification provide a mechanism that allows the BIOS to report whether a system contains legacy components and interfaces (as described later on this page). A system with a BIOS that reports it is legacy-free must achieve the following minimum level of BIOS support for legacy removal and support of replacement technologies:

Configuring ISA Boards in EISA Machines
When installing ISA boards in an EISA machine it is recommended to use the system’s EISA Configuration Utility. Hardware conflicts can easily be detected and resolved using this method. If ISA boards only are being installed, and they are not being configured, proceed to step 5. The Driver diskette contains configuration files required by EISA machines to configure EISA and ISA boards. Configure your EISA machine to recognise the installed board(s) using the respective system configuration utility. Consult your computer system installation manual for instructions on using the system configuration utility.

    Summary:

The performance of the mainboard is highly depending on the memory timing you adjust in your BIOS setup Introduction As you easily can see from my Mainboard Benchmark Results Table , the performance of the mainboard is highly depending on the memory timing you adjust in your BIOS setup. The settings you are able to change and the different values however differ a whole lot from chipset to chipset and from BIOS to BIOS. Some BIOSes hardly leave it up to you to tune up your system, others give you almost too many settings to choose from and some BIOSes adjust the memory timing very well after you only had to choose the DRAM speed. In general you can say that for optimal performance you should keep most of the values as low as possible. Should you choose them too low however you will either occur system crashes/hangs or your system wont boot at all. Even if this should happen there's nothing you'll have to fear though. Just load
