The Growth of a Game and a Conference The Palmer House - Conference presidents met here in 1895 The Big Ten is celebrating its 98th season of Big Ten basketball in 2000-01. National dominance, television exposure and attendance titles are the trademarks of Big Ten basketball. Michigan State showcased the strength of the Conference by capturing the NCAA Championship last season. As a matter of fact, the 1999-2000 season marked the third time since 1992 and the second consecutive year that the Big Ten sent two teams to the NCAA Final Four when the Spartans and the Wisconsin Badgers earned the trip. The Big Ten has some of the most loyal fans in the country. League fans are flocking to the arenas and have helped the Conference win 24 attendance titles. Those fans who werent packing the arenas were watching Big Ten basketball on television. In 2000-01 alone, Big Ten fans will be able to enjoy 86 of 88 intraconference games on the tube. Media exposure coupled with the Big Ten's high-quality basketball programs will continue to make Big Ten basketball a must-see affair. Home Championships Television About the Conference ... The girls can be proud of the contributions they have made to the history of MasonDixonathletics. The Girls' Mason-Dixon Basketball Tournament History.
http://www.masondixon.org/history/girlsbb.html
The South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg hosted the 1st Annual Girls Mason-Dixon Basketball Tournament on February 3rd and 4th, 1978. The participating schools were Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina. These schools became the charter members of the Girls Mason-Dixon Schools for the Deaf Athletic Association. South Carolina won the event while Florida took second place, Mississippi placed third and Georgia was fourth. Since that first tournament, Tennessee, Virginia, Eastern North Carolina and Alabama have brought the total number of teams participating to eleven. Support for the tournament has grown and the number of fans who travel from throughout the southeast to the host school continues to increase. The girls tournament has evolved into an event that is equal in scope and popularity to the boys tournament. The Mason-Dixon Tournament logo was initially developed in 1985 for the 8th Annual Girls Mason-Dixon Tournament and was subsequently adopted as the symbol to be used for both the boys and girls. The girls can be proud of the contributions they have made to the history of Mason-Dixon athletics.

Since his hiring, Waters and his staff resolutely melded the basketball program into a cohesive unit, on and off the playing floor. Prior to the 2001-2002 season, Waters stated three goals that he felt his Scarlet Knights could achieve: ONE - to qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament; TWO- to compile a .500 or better record in the BIG EAST; THREE- to be a dominant home team. BISON HISTORY AT THE NATIONALS
The Bronze Baby - is awarded annually to the CIAU Women's Basketball Champions. The trophy dates back to 1922 when it was donated by the Student's Council of McGill University. Until 1970, the Women's Interuniversity Athletic Union(WIAU) in Quebec and Ontario awarded the Bronze baby to their conference championship basketball team. In 1971, the WIAU was dissolved as a conference and the trophy was retired and returned to the donor, McGill University. McGill students then offered "her" to the Canadian Women's Interuniversity Athletic Union in June of 1972. The figure is a replica of a statue that was on the grounds of Dunfermline College of Physical Education in Scotland.

We want to bring a new audience to issues of social justice, equity, andhistory, and we see the story of basketball as rich with potential.
http://roundtablemedia.com/home/projects/basketball.html
This primetime television series and community engagement campaign will examine the social history of America over the last century as seen through the evolution of basketball as a major sport, entertainment, and industry. The series will present basketball as a lens to examine important lessons about race relations, migration, immigration, education, gender, class, and globalization. The documentary series will be versioned as a public radio series, for classroom use, and to support a youth engagement campaign focused on improving inter-group relations. The project will be versioned for classroom use and to support a major community outreach initiative that will partner with national organizations to engage at-risk youth in issues of inclusiveness and community building through the stories of the series. We want to bring a new audience to issues of social justice, equity, and history, and we see the story of basketball as rich with potential.
