Luis Rivas , who hasn't played since April 3, will probably have played a game for the Twins by the time you read this. His injury has lingered longer than expected, and fantasy owners have been waiting on pins and needles for his return. The result is that he is currently overrated. Last year the rookie second baseman hit .266 with little power. And coming off of a wrist injury, you can expect those numbers to be worse. But you wouldn't know it from the glee many Rivas owners are expressing with his return. Rivas will steal bases, but hitting ninth will limit his value in 5x5 leagues. If you have another viable option at second base, I'd trade Rivas before he hits .230 his first month back. His value may never be higher, as his unknown potential has many in fantasyland intrigued. On the other hand, if Jerry Hairston is your only other option, you should probably hold onto Rivas.

However, the left side of my brain has demanded time and a half for overtime, so I am giving it a rest. Also, my draft is a little later than somethe weekend after Opening Dayso I am pausing to muse and contemplate before heading into the home stretch. There is a lot to learn in this game. Names, statistics, predictions, jargon, trades. If you are just starting out, listening to experts often only makes it worse. However, there is one thing we beginners have in abundance that the experts don't: Ignorance. So, if you've got it, use it. Plenty of games players pretend to know less than they do, to catch others off guard. My plan is even simplerdon't pretend. A few key terms will help. If your team performs dismally, say you are in a "re-building" mode. Never mind that you haven't built anything before. Just remember re-building.

World Scholar-Athlete Games (WSAG) Fact Sheet At its 2000 October meeting, the Grants Committee approved close to $20,000 to send up to 10 youths from USGA supported programs to the 2001 World Scholar-Athlete Games (WSAG), which was held in Kingston, R.I., June 22-July 1 on the campus of the University of Rhode Island. USGA Scholarships to the Games included the cost of transportation, meals during the week of competition and the program fee for 10 participants from USGA-supported programs. The $20,000 grant from the USGA was due in part to a generous donation given by William Bunn, Jr., a long-time member of the USGA Sectional Affairs Committee and past recipient of the Ike Grainger Award for performing more than 25 years of volunteer service to the USGA. At the request of Mr. Bunn, his gift was included in the USGA’s "For the Good of Game" grants initiative, a 10-year, $50 million commitment to programs and projects that make golf more affordable and accessible to non-traditional audiences. The participants were chosen through a selection process conducted within the USGA Foundation. Applications were sent to directors of USGA-supported programs throughout the country. Program directors were instructed to distribute the application to participants of their programs who had exhibited the highest level of academic and golf achievement. Participants then had to complete the application, which required them to answer essays, request letters of recommendation and provide general background information.
