Il pittore, disegnatore, incisore e teorico dell'arte tedesco nacque a Norimberga nel 1471 e scomparse nella stessa città natale nel 1528. Rinascimento Massimo maestro del rinascimento tedesco; figlio dell'orafo magiaro Albrecht il Vecchio, fu apprendista nella bottega paterna dal 1483 al 1486; poi studiò presso M. Wolgemut, il maggior pittore e xilografo di Norimberga. Massimiliano I Stabilitosi in patria nel 1495 dopo un lungo viaggio nelle terre tedesche e a Venezia vi aprì una bottega fiorentissima. Negli anni 1505-07 fu ancora a Venezia, tornato a Norimberga ebbe la protezione di Massimiliano I, lavorando specialmente come xilografo fino al 1519 anno della morte dell'imperatore. Trasfigurato realismo Nelle primissime opere tra cui "Autoritratto col fiore d'eringio" del 1493 sono già realizzati pienamente quei caratteri di acuta penetrazione psicologica e di trasfigurato realismo che saranno costanti nella sua opera. L'Italia Il primo viaggio a Venezia dal 1494 al 1495 con puntate anche a Padova e a Mantova fu fondamentale per il completamento della sua formazione, che si arricchì del plastico monumentalismo di A. Mantegna e delle armonie classiche del Pollaiolo e del Giambellino.

Sono presenti leggere goffrature di stampa. Impressa su carta vergata con filigrana "Aquila con fiore" (Meder 122) databile intorno alla fine del XVI secolo. Questo foglio è d’estrema rarità come lo sono tutti quelli arrivati a noi dopo oltre quattro secoli in uno stato buono e completo. Dalla serie: La vita della vergine Rif. Bibliografici BARTSCH 87 MEDER 199 Note Stato f/f dopo il testo seconda variante su due Monogrammata su matrice E’ Michael Wolgemut (1434-1519) che dal 1486 lo vuole nella sua bottega contro la volontà paterna. Il padre, orafo, aveva l'intenzione di istradarlo al suo stesso mestiere. Sotto la guida di Wolgemut, il più rinomato xilografo di Norimberga, il giovane allievo in breve tempo acquisisce le fondamentali nozioni di tecnica incisoria e soprattutto entra in contatto con opere di altri maestri come quelle di Martin Schongauer (1453-1491) che esercite-ranno una influenza determinante nella sua formazione stilistica. Nel 1491 viene pubblicata la sua prima xilografia certa: San Gerolamo nello studio (per tutte le precedenti si possono solo azzardare attribuzioni)
