Renwick St. James and James C. Christensen, A Shakespeare Sketchbook (Greenwich Workshop Press, 2001)
There's no doubt that Shakespeare, whether he was a playwright from Stratford-on-Avon, Sir Francis Bacon, Queen Elizabeth I, or a conspiracy of time-traveling aliens, has had a tremendous impact upon Western culture for hundreds of years. Long after his death, his plays continue to be produced by the hundreds and thousands each year, with interpretations ranging from the distant past to the far future, from the feudal society of historical Japan to Manhattan in the 1990's, from the West Side to distant planets, from grade-school productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream to experimental off-off-off-off-Broadway versions of As You Like It with full frontal hermaphroditic nudity. Perhaps I exaggerate just a little, but the truth is, it's hard to find a milieu or genre which Shakespeare can't be translated for. In that spirit, I'd like to offer up a pair of books which reimagine Shakespeare through art and drawing, emphasizing the visual mediums while leaving the text to speak for itself. First up is the absolutely wonderful little volume

Welcome to the Posting Page for Co Leitrim, Ireland! If you have an interest in Cullen genealogy in Co Leitrim, then you've come to the right place; there are plenty of resources available to you right here, courtesy of the many researchers who share your interest in the Cullens of Co Leitrim. After taking a look at the Posting Page, try also the pages for the Cullens of Manorhamilton . Many of the Cullen families there trace their ancestry back to Captain John Cullen, from Scotland, who was the founding ancestor of many of the Cullen families in and around Manorhamilton, about the year 1648. Some researchers have gone to great effort collecting information on these families and have forwarded their research material for posting to the Cullen Genealogy Homepage. Among the items available are: a family tree outlining the descendants of Captain John Cullen, a family history written by David Cullen of Co Leitrim in 1860, Birth Record Extracts, IGI entries, Green Sheets, Parish Records, Land Deeds, and more. Any information you can add to the existing collection would be greatly appreciated by myself and by the many others who have worked so hard to put together this comprehensive history of the Cullens of Co Leitrim.

    Biography
British writer, creator Sherlock Holmes, the best-known detective in literature and the embodiment of sharp reasoning. Doyle himself was not a good example of rational personality: he believed in fairies and was interested in occultism. Sherlock Holmes stories have been translated into more than fifty languages, and made into plays, films, radio and television series, a musical comedy, a ballet, cartoons, comic books, and advertisement. By 1920 Doyle was one of the most highly paid writers in the world. Arthus Conan Doyle was born at Picardy Place, Edinburgh, as the son of Charles Altamont Doyle, a civil servant in the Edinburgh Office of Works, and Mary (Foley) Doyle. Both of Doyle's parents were Roman Catholics. His father suffered from epilepsy and alcoholism and was eventually institutionalized. Charles Altamot died in an asylum in 1893; in the same year Doyle decided to finish permanently the adventures of his master detective. Because of financial problems, Doyle's mother kept a boarding house. Dr. Tsukasa Kobayashi has alluded in an article, that Doyle's mother had a long affair with Bryan Charles Waller, a lodger and a student of pathology, who had a deep impact to Conan Doyle.

Both of Doyle's parents were Roman Catholics. To increase his income Charles Altamont painted, made book illustrations, and also worked as a sketch artist on criminal trials. Not long after arriving Edinburgh he started to drink, he suffered from epilepsy and was eventually institutionalized. Doyle's mother was interested in literature, and she encouraged his son to take to books. Doyle read voluminously. At the age of fourteen he had learned French so that he read

Church of St. Clare, Altamont, Effingham County, Illinois. Established in 1874 Present Pastor: Reverend James P. Walsh. The first priest to celebrate Holy Mass within the confines of what is now St. Clare Parish was Reverend E. J. Durbin of Kentucky. That was in the year 1839. Well-authenticated local tradition has it that Father Durbin visited the Altamont portion of his scattered flock twice a year and ministered to their spiritual needs. That the good seed sown by him in those far-off days-at least some of it-took deep root is evident today in the strong, active faith of the parishioners of St. Clare. The church spoken of was destroyed by fire on Christmas day, 1873. The following year work was commenced on the new St. Clare Church, a frame structure, 33 by 68 feet. It was ready for occupancy in 1875 in which year it was dedicated. Between the years 1874 and 1889 the following Franciscan Fathers from Teutopolis had successive charge of Altamont: Reverend Francis Albers (who built the church) 1874-75; Reverend Michael Richardt, 1875-77; Reverend Clement Deymann, 1877-79; Reverend Jerome Hellhake, 1879-84; Reverend Florence Kurzer, 1886-87, and Reverend Placidus Krekeler, 1886-87, and Reverend Stephan Scholz, 1887-89. Three of the above mentioned Fathers are still living and active in the ministry. Father Francis is the present pastor of St. Augustine Church, Chicago; Father Jerome serves in the monastery of St. Joseph, Cleveland, Ohio, while Father Florence is doing parish work at Guardian Angels Church, Chaska, Minnesota. The other four have gone to their eternal reward.
