Product Description
Opening with a general introduction on chemokine function and chemokine receptor biology, the handbook goes on to cover the known implications of these signaling molecules in human diseases, such as cancer, neural disorders, and viral infection, including HIV/AIDS. The second half of the book systematically surveys current drug development efforts at targeting individual chemokine receptors, as well as other chemokine interaction partners. Contributions in the first part of the book are mainly from academia, whereas the second part contains up-to-date reports from the pharmaceutical industry. ... Read more

Product Description
Antitumour chemotherapy is nowadays a very active field of research, and a huge amount of information on the topic is generated every year. Although many books are available that deal with clinical aspects of cancer chemotherapy, this book addresses the need for an updated treatment from the point of view of medicinal chemistry and drug design. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is gradually being supplemented by a new generation of drugs that recognize specific targets on the surface or inside cancer cells. These therapies are in their infancy, but they hold promise of more effective therapies with fewer side effects. Resistance to antitumour drugs is another important but normally neglected field. The focus of Medicinal Chemistry of Anticancer Drugs is on the mechanism of action of antitumour drugs from the molecular point of view and on the relationship between chemical structure and chemical and biochemical reactivity of antitumour agents, aiming at the rationalization of the action of this type of drugs, which would allow the design of new active structures.

* Presents information in a clear and concise way using a large number of figures
* Historical background provides insights on how the process of drug discovery in the anticancer field has evolved
* Extensive references to primary literature ... Read more

Product Description

Ion channels play a vital role in basic physiological functions such as generation of electrical activity in nerves and muscle, control of cardiac excitability, intracellular signaling, hormone secretion, cell proliferation and many other biological processes. Because of their prevalence and the critical role they play in virtually all tissue types and organs, ion channels are also involved in a number of pathophysiological conditions. The aim of this volume is to review recent advances in the field of ion channel related diseases. Following an overview chapter summarizing the current state of ion channel screening technologies, five topics covering areas such as cancer, cardiac arrhythmias, cystic fibrosis, and pain have been selected, and the current state of knowledge is presented by leading experts in their field. Each chapter is structured to cover the biological rationale for the target, the current status in the development of agents to treat the disease, and future prospects and challenges facing each therapeutic area. The reader will receive a critical overview covering the progress made in the rapidly developing and complex field of ion channels and diseases.

Product Description
This book, a compilation by experts in the field, is designed to provide an introduction to the area of medicinal inorganic chemistry and to summarize current, state-of-the-art developments in the field.Medicinal inorganic chemistry represents a key thrust area in medicine and biological inorganic chemistry. It is one of great current excitement and achievement. The field of metals in medicine represents an approximate $3 billion dollar a year industry, with successes in the area of Tc- and Gd-based imaging agents and Pt-based cancer therapeutics being major contributors to this bottom line. It has become increasingly apparent, however, that metal-based pharmaceuticals can play a prominent role in areas outside of imaging and oncology, including in those associated with the diagnosis and treatment of metabolism- and genetic disorders, cardiovascular disease, gene therapy, inflammation, reperfusion injury, stroke, diabetes, ALS, malaria, and neurological disease to name but a few.A objective of this book, therefore, is to highlight these opportunities for future advances and to foster further interactions between those working in the metal-based drug development, including imaging agents, and those engaged in the more classic pharmaceutical industries. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Average book
This book is helpful for an organic chemistry class, maybe for a review to strengthen your organic chemistry background for a pharmacology course or pharmacy school.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, solid Organic Review
I purchased this in order to prepare myself for an medicinal chemistry course, and was able to chew through it slowly in about 2 weeks.I have not had organic chemistry in 3 years, and it was a fantastic source for bringing old knowledge, and some new, to the forefront of my mind.

3-0 out of 5 stars Save the money, use it towards the purchase of a Medicinal Chemistry Book
This book is good if you want a quick read on FGs in Medicinal Chemistry, you can read it in 3 sessions and pick up some concepts here and there, but you will need to look in other places to expand your knowledge more in depth. For that, I would rather save the money and use it towards the purchase of a good medicinal chemistry book, where you will find the same information and more.... don't get me wrong, this book here is perfect if you have to travel or commute to work by bus or train and need some reading, but to learn beyond it, then this is not for you,

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book
I had to purchase this book for a Principles of Drug Action class in pharmacy school. The book is pretty easy to read but very brief on all topics. This makes for a quick read but if you don't understand a topic, you will have to look elsewhere because there is simply not much 'depth' here.Overall a good review if organic is fairly fresh and will probably serve as a good primer but you will need other texts for depth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great OChem Review
I am currently in pharmacy school and we recently had a class about medicinal chemistry.I have not had organic chemistry or used topics pertaining to in over 2 years. Our instructor rccommended this book and the layout is easy to follow and to understand.I wouldn't use this if you are just starting organic chemistry, but more so as a review for further graduate level courses. ... Product Description

Metals in pharmaceuticals have played an increasingly important role in medicine over the last century, particularly in cancer therapy and diagnostic imaging methods. Medicinal Applications of Coordination Chemistry focuses on the role that transition metals play in clinical applications.

Medicinal Applications of Coordination Chemistry begins with a brief historical review and an introduction to the chemistry of d- and f- block metals. Subsequent sections discuss metallodrugs for a number of different applications, the design of new drugs and the relationship between structure and function. Key sections include diagnostic applications of metal compounds in anatomical and functional imaging, and therapeutic applications of metals compounds.

This book is ideal for researchers in academia and industry and comes complete with examples of real life applications.
