4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful!
This book does a fantastic job of painting Malcolm X in the eyes of those who knew him and were touched by him.It really gives an insight into the life of one of the most influential men in history.I loved what MayaAngelou, Eldridge Cleaver, and Robert Penn Warren had to say.Otherhighlights are the interview with Claude Lewis, Malcolm's last TV interviewwith Pierre Barton, and On The Air with Joe Rainey, in which Malcolmdiscusses his split with Muhammad. It was secretely recorded by theFBI.

Of course Alex Haley's "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" isa must read as well! ... Read more

Product Description
With the development of potent x-ray sources at many synchrotron laboratories worldwide, Compton scattering has become a standard tool for studying electron densities in materials. This book provides condensed matter and materials physicists with an authoritative, up-to-date, and very accessible account of the Compton scattering method, leading to a fundamental understanding of the electrical and magnetic properties of solid materials. The spectrum of Compton scattered x-rays is particularly sensitive to this behavior and thus can be used as a direct probe and to test the predictions of theory. The current generation of synchrotron facilities allows this method to be readily exploited to study the ground state electron density in both elements and in complex compounds. It is important that those working in related fields, as well as the increasing number directly using the Compton method, have a comprehensive assessment of what is now possible and how to achieve it, in addition to a full understanding of its theoretical basis. This monograph is unique and timely, since little of what is described, was practicable a decade ago. The development of synchrotron radiation facilities has ensured that the technique described here will remain a powerful probe of electron charge and spin density for many years to come. ... Malcolm X was the Minister of the Nation of Islam until March 1964 when he left this group and formed the Muslim Mosque, Inc. and the Organization of Afro-American Unity. Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965, while delivering a speech in New York City. Norman Butler, Thomas Johnson, and Talmage Hayer were convicted of his murder and sentenced to life in prison.

Malcolm X was released from prison in August 1952 and by February 1953 the FBI had a file open on him. Product Description
Much has been written on the life and work of Malcolm X, one of the most important Black leaders of the twentieth century. Editors Conyers and Smallwood have assembled an impressive array of contributors whose works reflect their expertise in the fields of history, sociology, social work, religion, literature, labor and management, and Africana studies. The essays fuse social science, humanistic, and professional studies methods as they look at Malcolm X and his contributions in place, space, and time.

The objective of the essays is simple and straightforward. First, the book hopes to challenge scholars in Africana studies to re-examine and re-emphasize Africana leadership of the nineteenth and twentieth century. Certainly, the idea of this reclamation is critical to examining agency and sovereignty of African people. Second, the articles promote the implementation of Afrocentric meta-theories in order to describe and evaluate Africana phenomena. Lastly, the contributions offer readers interdisciplinary tools for restoring, connecting, and retaining the cultural milieu of Africana accomplishments. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Library of Sonya Armfield
This book was interesting because it offers a different perspective of Malcolm X.Its good to read this book with the autobiography of Malcolm X.

Sonya Armfield

5-0 out of 5 stars A useful book, the product of much research exposing the FBI
Carson is a well-known Black scholar whose most important work has been organizing and opublishing from the Martin Luther King Papers. This book was an effort on his part to expose how the FBI followed Malcolm X from the time he wrote to a radical youth group for information, long before Malcolm X joined the Muslims until his death, a death Malcolm more and more expected would come from the FBI/CIA.Along the way the FBI has preserved speeches and letters and views of Malcolm as they evolved throughout his life.Anyone who treats Malcolm X as some sort of prefabricated god, and not a man whose views developed over time, over experience, and particularly after his exposure to the struggles of the civil rights movement, and the anti-imperialist struggles ongoing in Cuba, Africa, and Vietnam at the time, is in for a rude shock as this book shows how his ideas changed and grew.
I recommend Pathfinder Press's series of books by Malcolm X. Malcolm selected Pathfinder to publish his speeches before he died. The first book Malcolm X speaks was selected while Malcolm was living, though published after he was murdered.Every book has been published in cooperation and with royalties to Malcolm's family.Pathfinder has gone as far as the jungles of Guyana to find every speech or interview available with Malcolm particularly in the last years of his life.

3-0 out of 5 stars The book was informative....
The book was informative however the foward by Spike Lee was out of place. It breaks my heart that so many people profit from the life and death of Malcolm X other than his family. 5-0 out of 5 stars Malcolm X on Need for Uncompromising Struggle
In re-reading Malcolm X Speaks, I'm struck by how well he understood the viciousness of the U.S. system of oppression and how clearly he expressed the need for all-out, uncompromising struggle against it. The capitalist class lashed out at Malcolm X for these speeches, not just because he criticized their system, but because he dared to awaken the oppressed to their unconquerable human potential. Fighters from all over the world have studied this book, members of Sinn Fein in Ireland, farmers fighting foreclosure, opponents of police brutality, and supporters of the embattled Palestinians. Sharing the lessons of this book will advance our struggle! If not available from amazon, booksfrompathfinder will have it--click on "new and used" near the top of the page.

5-0 out of 5 stars His Own Words, the Way he wanted them!
This book of Malcolm X's Speeches was begun while Malcolm was alive with the publisher and the editor that Malcolm selected, and speeches he wanted in the book. This begins the series of books by Malcolm X published by Pathfinder Press in collaboration with his family as more speeches, interviews, and talks by Malcolm X have been discovered. The aim here is to put Malcolm X's words first. Read them for yourself. Find out why Malcolm was a reasoned, passionate, but uncompromising opponent of US imperialism's wars against oppressed peoples, in Africa, in Vietnam, in the Mid-East. Malcolm can really inspire you about the fights we need.

5-0 out of 5 stars a teacher and example for all workers
Don't just read what people have to say about Malcolm X!Read what he had to say - about the American system, about internationalism, about racism. This collection begins in November 1963, right before Malcolm X was silenced and expelled by the Nation of Islam, and extends to a couple of days before his assassination in February 1965. ... Product Description
In Malcolm X For Beginners, Bernard Doctor, reveals the teacher, the leader, and the revolutionary voice of change that Malcolm X was, and continues to be.Powerful narrative and graphics tell the story of Malcolm X’s life, his journey of self-discovery, his far-reaching ideas, his martyrdom and his impact on an era. Embraced as a righteous prophet of Black power and pride, damned as the voice of violence, Malcolm X merges as a complex, brave and brilliant figure with much to teach about the struggle for dignity.Though it is no longer unusual to find youth adorning Malcolm X hats, t-shirts, necklaces, buttons and the like, for many, who Malcolm X was, and why his contributions were so significant in changing the way we think about one another is seldom understood. Malcolm X For Beginners brings to surface little known facts about Malcolm’s life and the evolution of his ideologies and philosophies. ... Read more

Book Review
"Malcom X for Beginners"
By: Bernard Aquina Doctor

One of Malcom X's most significant quotes was "Look out for the children they are the last hope of America, it's too late for us grownups" he said that before he was assinated. This is a very informative novel about the life of an African American leader. The first part of the book describes the up's and down's of Malcom's life. The Klu Klux Klan nearly killed Malcom's mom, dad, brothers and sisters when they set their house on fire. That's just the beginning of Malcom's troubles. During the 1920's and somewhat today racism is ignored. There was no use for an African American trial to go to court, the jury would protect a white person and find him/her not guilty, any way. The turning point in this novel was when Malcom X and his friend Shorty went to jail. However, there were two white girls involved with Malcolm's and Shorty's criminal acts. These women were never convicted or even fined for there wrong doings. Malcom realized that his past was destructive and turns it around by joining the Nation of Islam which empowered him as a man and as an Africa American. This biography is a very strong (informing you of the truth) because it focuses on the hard times of African Americans and a powerful man, Malcom X.

Malcom X by Bernard Aquina Doctor
One of Malcom's most vivid sayings was "Look out for the children they are the last hope of America it's to late for us grownups" he said that before he was assinated. The book is a very informative novel about the life of an African American leader. The first part of the book describes the up's and down's of Malcom's life. Nearly killing Malcom's mom, dad, brothers and sisters the Ku Klux KLan set there house on fire. That's just the beginning of Malcom's troubles. Durning the 1920's and somewhat today racism is ignored. There was no use to taking a trial to coart the jury would just say that the white man is not charged in any way. The most suspenseful part of the story was when Malcom X and friend went to jail but the two white girls with them did not go to jail or even get fined. Malcom learns that his past wasn't great and turns it around by joining the Nation of Islam. This book is a very strong(inforing you the truth)because if focuses on the hard times of an African American named Malcom X. Segregation then was very extreme.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Real Good Start on Malcolm X's Life
if you haven't read Malcolm X's Autobio with Alex Hailey then this is a Must read to starting out with His work.this Book goes over different details of His Life, upbringing&outlook on the world at the time.a Real Good Book on a Very Important&Influential American Figure that Forever Changed the Way History would be mentioned&go Down.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Black Prince
This book by Bernard Aquina Doctor gives a nice history of Malcom X, a black leader of the 60's. A leader of the Black Muslims as well as the Black Rights movement alongside (and many times seemingly against) MartinKLuther King Jr. Aquinas lays the ground work by discussing Malcomschildhood, who his father was which would prove to be pivotal later inMalcom's life. Growing up poor and oppressed by the WW2 and the KKK amongothers, Malcom fought his way to the top and demanded to be heard by all.He was shot and killed at one of his lectures by one of the Black Muslimsin 1965. Reccomended for those interested in Malcom X's ideas, as well asthose curious about the black movement and some philosophies that went withit. ... Read more

Product Description
While this biography of Malcolm X touches upon his early life and young adulthood, it focuses most prominently on the revolutionary's final years, which were largely dominated by his departure from the Nation of Islam and his conflict with Elijah Muhammad. It begins with Malcolm's seven-year imprisonment at the age of 21, when he began his noted quest for self-education and first became familiar with the teachings of the Nation of Islam, and continues through his official adoption of the religion of the Nation of Islam; his ministry at Elijah Muhammad's Temple Number Seven and other significant contributions to the Nation's growth; his eventual disillusionment and rejection of the Nation's teachings; and his pilgrimage to Mecca and other international travels. There is a particular focus on the 11-month period from March 8, 1964, when Malcolm officially left the Nation of Islam, to February 21, 1965, when he was assassinated while delivering a speech at Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom. Throughout, the author addresses a number of important points, assumptions and questions, including the role of fellow prisoner John Elton Bembry in Malcolm's prison conversion; whether Malcolm decided to leave the Nation of Islam before he was suspended by Elijah Muhammad; whether he was seeking martyrdom; and the extent of the role that government agencies played in Malcolm X's death. ... Product Description
"Whom, or what, does composition - defined here as an intentional process of study, either oral or written - serve? Bradford T. Stull contends that composition would do well to articulate, in theory and practice, what could be called "emancipatory composition." He argues that emancipatory composition is radically theopolitical: it roots itself in the foundational theological and political language of the American experience while it subverts this language in order to emancipate the oppressed and, thereby, the oppressors."--BOOK JACKET. "To articulate this vision, Stull looks to those who compose from an oppressed place, finding in the works of W.E.B. Du Bois, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X radical theopolitical practices that can serve as a model for emancipatory composition."--BOOK JACKET. ... Read more
