Product Description
The twenty-first century opened with a rapidly growing array of markers of human misery: endemic warfare, natural disasters, global epidemics, climate change. Behind the dismal headlines are a series of closely connected, long-term political-economic processes, often glossed as the rise of neoliberal capitalism. This phenomenon rests on the presumption that capitalist trade "liberalization" will lead inevitably to market growth and optimal social ends. But so far the results have not been positive. Focusing on the United States, the contributors to this volume analyze how the globalization of newly untrammeled capitalism has exacerbated preexisting inequalities, how the retreat of the benevolent state and the rise of the punitive, imperial state are related, how poorly privatized welfare institutions provide services, how neoliberal and neoconservative ideologies are melding, and how recurrent moral panics misrepresent class, race, gendered, and sexual realities on the ground. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Spellbinding!
Everybody Playz Tha Fool snatched my attention from my surroundings and left me reading hungrily until I finished, starting with the first paragraph! Even at the end, I wanted MORE!

All ofthe main characters Poppy, Stacy, Sheila and Jonas are so well developed that, I had to take a second look at the crew painting the house down the street in wonderment of the secret lives they held after work.

Each of the character's lives are so uniquely intertwined and the Author does a superb jobof bringing them to life in print. So much so that I could have sworn I watched a movie instead of reading a book.

In fact, the format of the book reads like a made for TV drama; ending a "scene" right when it gets to the nitty gritty, leaving you wanting more. Then beginning a scene with another group of character's, ending it and then taking back to where the previous scene left off.

If you like non-stop suspense and drama with a twist of murderous venom, "Everybody Playz Tha Fool" is a perfect read for you too!

5-0 out of 5 stars One word...addictive
This book will be hard to put down. If you are human, you will most likely read this book in one day. This is nothing like any other book I have read! I was constantly trying to get back to see what was going to happen next!!! ... Read more

From the author: Anthropoid phylogeny has been characterized by dramatic increases in relative brain size. Given the importance of genetic mechanisms in evolution, quantitative genetic analyses of the biological concomitants of relative brain size variation should greatly augment our understanding of this phylogenetic phenomenon. In humans the brain is often linked metabolically with three other organs--heart, kidneys, and liver--that together account for most of the total basal metabolic rate. Because the weights of these four organs are proportional to their individual organ metabolic rates, their summed weights have been used by previous researchers as a proxy measure for their composite organ metabolic rate. We have conducted a quantitative genetic analysis of variation in the relative weights of these four organs in a population of captive baboons from the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research. These analyses were performed on |log.sub.e~-transformed organ weights available for 601 animals, 307 of which were assigned to 25 pedigrees containing 2 to 49 members; the remaining 294 animals were treated as independent individuals. Moderate but statistically significant (p |is less than~ 0.005) heritabilities were estimated for all four organ weights: |Mathematical Expression Omitted~, |Mathematical Expression Omitted~, |Mathematical Expression Omitted~, and |Mathematical Expression Omitted~. Significant (p |is less than~ 0.05) additive genetic correlations were estimated between brain and liver weights (||Rho~.sub.G~ = 0.568) and between liver and kidney weights (||Rho~.sub.G~ = 0.858). Significant (p |is less than~ 0.05) environmental correlations were identified for heart and kidney weights (||Rho~.sub.E~ = 0.551) and for liver and kidney weights (||Rho~.sub.E~ = 0.684). Our results clearly demonstrate that the four organ weights have substantial heritable components that, because of their similar magnitudes, are probably equally susceptible to selection. However, the patterns of intercorrelation revealed by our analyses of the genetic and environmental correlation matrices indicate that, of the four organs composing the proxy measure of organ metabolic rate, only the liver and the kidneys are likely to exhibit correlated responses to selection for increased relative brain size such as that observed in the anthropoid fossil record.

Product Description
Originally published in 1931, The Alamo Defenders is the culmination of almost a decade's worth of Alamo research, and is the foundation upon which most later works addressing the subject of the souls who occupied the Alamo during the siege. Omitting much of the romance, legend and myth associated with the storied fortress, The Alamo Defenders calls forth the facts, gleaned from letters and primary documents, to bring us closer to those who served with Travis. The roll of Alamo victims has changed only slightly since Ms. Williams conducted her research nearly 75 years ago, and her work remains a valuable research tool and starting point for Alamo studies today. Includes data on 187 Alamo defenders, as well as messengers. Footnotes and bibliography. ... Read more
