Not a fan
I am a homeschooling mom, and I have decided after 3 DK workbooks, that I am not a fan.The books are boring (no color and the illustrations are confusing), the stickers do not peel well or stick, and the book, which is marked for K-2 is not in a logical order.My daughter, who is in Kindergarten, finished the book but we skipped quite a few pages, which were not done well.For example, there will be a drawing of a child with a leg up in the air, and you are supposed to match an action, like kicking, walking, running...well, the drawing could feasibly be of any of these.The book also does not separate what pages are for K, 1st or 2nd.It's just one big book.Clearly some of the concepts are older-child concepts, and they weren't part of our Kindergarten SOLs, but they are mixed in.So, the Kindergarten concepts are in the beginning of the book, a few in the middle, some in the back.You have to weed through to figure out what is for each grade or wait until your child is at 2nd grade and then have him or her do the whole book.You would be better off going with a book series like Kumon or Sylvan, which are in color, easy to understand, and they stick with one grade level or SOL concept.We bought the DK books in Math and Science, and we didn't want to waste our money, so we used the books but I will be specifically avoiding this publisher in the future.Now, we DO like the DK books, but the workbooks are not the same.

This book is a fun way to teach K-2 science!! It has alot of age appropriate activities for the kids to do!

OK, but not great
I got this book to homeschool my 1st grader.It was OK.It was way to easy for him, and didn't really teach him anything new.(He is not the best student, either, so that's saying a lot).Also, there are no hands-on activities.I think that science is easier for kids to learn if they can do some hands-on activities.

The activities in this book adhere to the National Research Council's "National Science Education Standards and introduces science in a way young children can understand.

Learn Science uses an inquiry-based approach and each page of questions includes an answer key and detailed explanations. The answer section has notes for teachers, tutors or parents. A progress chart at the start along with a page of stars helps to keep kids motivated. There is also a certificate at the back of the book that can be placed on the refrigerator or bulletin board.

Level 2: Predicting
Level 3: Explaining

Children learn to identify the root, stem, leaf and flower on a picture of a plant. They learn where animals live, the difference between hot and cold, how to maintain healthy teeth and how to be safe around electricity.

Learn Science K-2 provides a good introduction to the basics of animal life, human survival, products we use in daily life and safety issues.
