3-0 out of 5 stars Same Story Different Ending
THE CARTEL VIXEN didn't start off as a page turner for me. It really took me a few days to get into the book, but once I did get into it, I didn't want to put the book down. It felt kind of weird as I was reading - I could picture myself in the same situation, imagining how I would handle the same situations that Monique and her friends were going through.
The book no doubt intrigued me but at the same time there were certain times when I felt that too much extra unneccesary (scenes, drama) was being thrown into the mix. The element of the 'hood appeal' seemed forced. Overall it was a good decent read from a first time author. I am patiently awaiting a follow up novel from Ms. Wright.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Hell of a Life
From the outside looking in Monique seems to have it all.She is one of the most popular girls at Central High School. Her girls seem to be all she has in the world. Her home life is hell, her mother is abusive and always seems angry at Monique. Her mother moves in a man young enough to be Monique's older brother. When he is around, is the only time that Monique's mother seems to leave her alone.

Monique seemed to be looking for love in all the wrong places. When she gets knocked up by her boyfriend, her mother is livid. Since Monique got into some trouble in the past, her mother does the ultimate in trying to teach her daughter a lesson.Little does her mother realize that this will do more harm than good.Somewhere along the line Monique's friendships and loyalty will be tested.Monique will be forced to do what ever it is she needs to do in order to survive.

THE CARTEL VIXEN by Tiffany Wright is a story of one girl and the hell she goes through. It is a hell of a life that she lives. The story had the makings of being a great novel, unfortunately I felt there was too much going on within the story in such a short novel.I felt like the author tried to overdo it and kept adding things to the story to make it more hood. The main character went through damn near everything one can think of ...teenage pregnancy, gangs, selling drugs, addicted to drugs, prostitution, etc.The story lacks originality, I have read countless novels depicting the same story-line in these street-lit novels and it would be nice to read something different than the norm. I would love to see Ms. Wright step out the box and write something a little different. All in all I felt this was just an okay read.

This book was amazing!!! Once you start reading this book you will not put it down. Filled with so much emotions and suspense I LOVED IT!!!!! I can't wait for your next book!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Cartel Vixen
At first I thought I read this book before, the story sounded familiar. However I thought it was a good read and I'm looking forward to part 2.

5-0 out of 5 stars A banger for sure!
Mr. Wright really know how to set the pace when it comes to writing about gritty street life. The characters in her novel are so realistic that i forget that they weren't real people. They had my head really spinning for real.
Her novel had Drama, sex, violence and straight up chaos all throughout. Ms Wright surely has a knack for giving it to you real and uncut, just the way i like it. Thank you Ms. Wright for one banger of a book. Can't wait for the next one to drop. Don't keep us waiting too long. ... Read more

Product Description

Looking through the lens of black business history, Beauty Shop Politics shows how black beauticians in the Jim Crow era parlayed their economic independence and access to a public community space into platforms for activism. Tiffany M. Gill argues that the beauty industry played a crucial role in the creation of the modern black female identity and that the seemingly frivolous space of a beauty salon actually has stimulated social, political, and economic change.

From the founding of the National Negro Business League in 1900 and onward, African Americans have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit by starting their own businesses, but black women's forays into the business world were overshadowed by those of black men. With a broad scope that encompasses the role of gossip in salons, ethnic beauty products, and the social meanings of African American hair textures, Gill shows how African American beauty entrepreneurs built and sustained a vibrant culture of activism in beauty salons and schools. Enhanced by lucid portrayals of black beauticians and drawing on archival research and oral histories, Beauty Shop Politics conveys the everyday operations and rich culture of black beauty salons as well as their role in building community.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beauty Shop Politics
In Beauty Shop Politics, Tiffany M. Gill documents the central role that black beauticians played in the struggle against Jim Crow laws. Beauty shops were one of the few industries that offered black women some economic stability and upward mobility in the face of segregation. The industry also offered black women a respectable alternative to domestic labor, as well as a change to not work for white people. As political tensions rose, civil rights organizers increasingly turned to black beauticians for disseminating social and political information.

Initially, the hair care industry was dominated by white English and French men. Black men slowly worked their way into the industry, serving as hairdressers for white women, but that period was short-lived, as the stereotype of black men as sexual predators began to emerge. During the antebellum period, black women began to emerge as hairdressers in greater numbers; the early twentieth century saw the emergence of black female entrepreneurs, namely Annie Malone and Madame C.J. Walker, who played an integral role in expanding black beauty culture.

Through hard work and sheer perseverance, the women fought for beauticians to gain the respect of the general public. The women had to fight charges that they were inhibiting racial uplift, particularly because their products appeared to straighten black women's hair at a time when it was culturally looked down upon. Still, the women fought to have beautician courses established at black colleges, arguing that the industry provided black women economic stability. They also fiercely promoted themselves to the public by contributing to various philanthropic causes.

In times of economic hardship, the beauty industry offered black women an opportunity to enter a respectable profession that entailed a steady income and entrepreneurial opportunities. On the national level, women worked to create a national organization that would legitimize their profession. In 1912, Madame Walker argued that "hairdresser" was a derogatory term, and insisted on the use of the term "beauty culturist." With their economic and professional status now in place, beauty culturists were quickly gaining a strong foothold and establishing their place within their communities.

Because the black beauty industry was owned and supplied by blacks, and catered to the black community, black beauticians had some insulation from the economic hardships that their peers faced. Thus, they were able to participate in civil rights activism without the fear of losing their jobs or their customer base. Some, for instance, established literacy schools so that their students would be able to pass voter registration tests. Others distributed information through their beauty shops, which had become central locations for community organizing. Gill also extends her research to the present day, noting how the focus has now shifted from civil rights to women's health initiatives.

Perhaps the best thing about this book is its accessibility to a wide audience. Gill writes in a clear and engaging style that makes the book an excellent choice for a non-academic reader who is interested in the subject. She includes noted figures in black women's history such as Madame Walker, Annie Malone, and Septima Clark, and uses compelling anecdotes about women such as Mahalia Jackson and Anne Moody, author of Coming of Age in Mississippi. Most importantly, Gill introduces the reader to a roster of lesser-known figures who also played important roles during this period. The book is an invaluable resource for women's history and African American history scholars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect book and find!
For those who rated this book only 1 star were obviously looking at the wrong material! This book fulfilled my need in psychic development, period. It was extremely helpful and informative and really down-to-earth.I understood every single word that Tiffany Johnson had implemented in this genius book.I want to talk about how it helped me, so listen carefully!I literally wasted money on 4 or 5 books, which were honestly were not focused on strictly developing your skills, even though they claimed they did. They jumped left and right about different topics and non-sense.... almost like a bi-polar monkey =).This book was recommended to me by the one and only Chip Coffey, inside of the haunted hornet.Soon after that, I met Tiffany Johnson which kindly wrote the name of the book on a note pad for me.This book got me to open up and made me more sensitive to the environment around me.I literally grasp information left and right; in terms of my abilities in medium ship, they improved vastly soon after practicing, practicing and practicing!Thank you Tiffany for a great book, and thank you Chip for recommending it to me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book
I have read this book and I love the way it is written. As an intuitive/ medium myself I'm always on the hunt for great new easy to read book that I can recommend for my students to help them with their path. This book is one of those books. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is starting their path and looking for ways to open themselves up more. I would even recommend it to people that have been doing this work for a while to give them some new and fresh ideas to try. All in all it is a wonderful book thats great for any Intuitive's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars This will be the start of your own journey, too.
Okay, I admit it: I've had a mild interest in this topic, a curiosity, for awhile, but was only "informed" in a random way.Other books...err, hmm. Seemed (1) written for those who are years-in to specialized niche subject matter (fine but not for me yet) ; (2) embarrassingly goofy; or (3) coma-inducing, boring, dusty. Not this. "Picture Yourself Developing Your Psychic Abilities" is brilliant.Clever approach:warm, welcoming, and...surprise! witty! (Yay.) Down-to-earth, with fine insight. Best, it is not "Psychics for Dummies": yes, it's entertaining in its way, and it flows, so easy to learn from, but it's truly meaty, just without the tedious slog.I got it as a gift and thought, "well...." Then surprise, I started in and whoosh -- devoured it.The history is fascinating, the explanations of what it means to be a sensitive, what spirit guides are, etc, answered my questions, and some bits gave me a shiver of recognition I didn't expect.V good look at individual spirituality, too. The author's own story is a great read. I'd equate this book to a series of conversations with a good friend, after which you come away thinking, "Wow...."for weeks. Yes, really, you could easily start an eyes-opened new journey of your own life with this book. Finally, I'll say this: this book came to me at precisely the right time. My guess is that you too may see what I mean by that. Friends will be getting this for Christmas, oh, yes.

3-0 out of 5 stars A few good points in this book
This book is okay for someone starting out to read about psychic abilities, and it does have a few good points about how to develop them. The book talks too much about every other kind of mysticism, though, that I didnt want to know about. ... Read more

Product Description

The fresh, robust flavors of Italian grilled sandwiches.

A panini is an Italian-inspired pressed sandwich enjoyed throughout Italy and, increasingly, in North American cafés, restaurants and kitchens. Italians regard panini as fast food thanks to its easy preparation, which also accounts for its success in North America. Sales of panini makers have skyrocketed, with small appliance manufacturers releasing new models each year.

Tiffany Collins provides great recipes that replicate the bistro experience and maximize the use of a home panini maker. Among the recipes for this vibrant, flavorful food are:

  • Salami, prosciutto, mozzarella panini with roasted red peppers; Philly cheesesteak panini
  • Bacon, spinach and hard-boiled egg panini; smoked salmon, red onion, cream cheese and caper panini
  • Sweet Italian sausage, provolone and tomato sauce panini; hummus, red onion and Swiss cheese panini
  • Pulled pork panini; Tuscan tuna and white bean panini; shrimp club panini
  • Cuban panini; smores panini; sliced beef, caramelized onions and gorgonzola panini
  • Smoked turkey, brie and Granny Smith apple panini; south of the border turkey panini with perfect guacamole.

This Italian tradition can now be experienced at home and enjoyed by the whole family.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good recipes.... but 200 is stretching it
This book had some good recipe suggestions. A lot of the recipes have a pretty standard ingredients that one might already have on hand.

However, to say that there are 200 recipes is a bit of a stretch. It seemed like a lot of the recipes were variations on each other (i.e. dijon turkey, honey dijon turkey)rather than truly different recipes. I would rather have had the book be more upfront and be 50 recipes with suggested variations, but I guess that just doesn't seem as catchy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freat Recipes
This book has great variety for panini that are easy to do. great to eat. and fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Panini Cookbook

5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
I am a cookbook junkie, and have recently been on a panini kick. This cookbook is great.Has lots of creative combinations and ideas.Everything I've tried so far has been yummy and easy to make.I am planning on combining this cookbook with an electric panini maker for an upcoming wedding gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Recipes!
With a glut of panini recipe cookbooks on the market, it is my opinion that "200 Best Panini Recipes" stands head and shoulders above the others. There is a good selection of recipes for various types of condiments (aolis, mayonnaise, remoulades....) and the paninis range from your basic Ham and Cheese to a more exotic Blue Cheese, Chicken and Apple Panini. For those that like seafood, there are some really great Po'Boy panini's. Wonderful pictures. All in all, one of the best cookbooks I have. ... Read more

Product Description
Tiffany & Co, since its foundation in 1837, has been a uniquely American brand, famous for its glamour, creative design and fine craftsmanship. Starting modestly as a 'Fancy Goods' store on Broadway, Tiffany rose quickly to international fame, its jewellery winning the medals and stunning the worlds at the great international exhibitions of the nineteenth century. America's new rich delighted in the striking jewels created by Tiffany designer Paulding Farnham and, from 1904, Louis Comfort Tiffany who pioneered a distinctively American aesthetic which delighted in the vividly coloured gemstones newly discovered in America. A great period of naturalism in jewellery was followed by the abstract geometry of Art Deco. Sensitive to new trends and ever at the forefront of design, Tiffany moved confidently into the 1930s and 1940s with large and glamorous colourful stones set in swirling gold. In the post-War 1950s, they boldly backed new designers. The elegant and witty genius of French designer Jean Schlumberger, hired in 1956, brought an originality universally acclaimed. In the 1970s Tiffany turned to the designers Elsa Peretti and Paloma Picasso whose work captured the informality and fun that patrons now looked for in their jewellery. This sumptuous book is edited by Clare Phillips, Curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, with essays by a team of leading historians of American jewellery. Their essays chart the early years of the modest New York store, the transformation of the firm under Louis Comfort Tiffany into a world leader, and the re-establishment of Tiffany as a great, international company following the Second World War. Full catalogue entries, all beautifully illustrated and many with specially commissioned photography, cover around two hundred pieces of jewellery dating from the 1850s to the 1980s. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Took the safe way
I actually enjoyed most of the book. It's just the ending that I felt was totally rushed. In the book, the girl was doing a better job at work then the man ever did. It would have been much more interesting if the author had just left them in their new bodies at the end. They were starting to adjust near the end to living as each other. I feel the author took the safe way out and switched them back to their own bodies near the end. I would have like the author to show some courage and dare to be unpredictable.

4-0 out of 5 stars Body switch = sex + fashion
I enjoyed reading this book. This is a gender and body switch novel, and is like wading in the shallow end of a pool--easy and not much depth. There is not much of a plot and the book is a straighforward focus on the two main characters and their reactions to a temporary switch of genders (or so they hope). But as an already established couple they help each other and revel in a series of sex scenes with each other. The only character you could describe as an antagonist only makes a brief appearance then is gone, and merely seems a device to lead to a threesome sex scene. In this book, the fashion choices by the two main characters, by and for each other constitute an ongoing subplot, with grooming and hair and makeup also treated as substantive elements in the book. You get the idea--add it to your stack (or file) of books, read it, then move along.

5-0 out of 5 stars One hell of a story
To me this has to be one of her best works but then I have always been a push over for any story set in my home town San Francisco

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully unexpected
As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a sexy, funny, well written book. Ms Tyler brings real insight into her characters and the situation they face.

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly enjoyable.
The experience of Tiffany being in a man's body made me see men differently. It was also fun seeing Kurt in a female body.Several thoughts were creative, new and unexpected for me.I normally don't like to hear swearing in real life, but I enjoyed Kurt's swearing in this story.I found it sexy.I also found myself chuckling out loud several times during the book.Sexual content: strong.Setting: current day U.S.Copyright: 2006.Genre: contemporary romance. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Tiffany Christmas
A Tiffany Christmas, by John Loring was published in 1996. Though not that old, it has become a collectible. This is a collection of over 165 color images of vignettes created in the store, or on location at someone's home. It is an OTT, Over The Top, type of styling a photo, using every bit of Tiffany's merchandise in the shot as possible. It proscribes the go-go 1980's era of conspicuous consumer acquisition, that lasted well into the 1990's as a way of having style. More was definitely more.
I recommend this book if you are interested in the commercial history of Christmas in the USA, and if you are interested in the history of Tiffany's.
The photos are gorgeous eye candy, a fantastic compendium of Tiffany's merchandise, past and present. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars confusion, confusion, confusion
I bought this book as a recommendation when I purchased another item. The positive reviews are all from people who work for this outfit. Prayer classes, teleconferences, animal healing, hmmm, doesn't this sound like tbn or the bakkers? How quickly we forget? We should be responsible for our own lives instead of giving our power away to such confused folks.
Meditate and save your money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book even for a non Christian
I was given this book.I probably would never have purchased as I was raised with Hell Fire and Damnation Born Again family.I have had enough of shame based guilt! But her book is a perfect book for those who of all denominations and those who chose to be with out a formal church.I am an educated person pursuing her doctorate in psychology, as such I am a skeptic of much. This book transcends all of the books I have read so far, including Tolle, Browne, Renard,Choquette, Althea, Van Pragh you name it.I have used the techniques in the book and and I have had amazing things happen. Tiffany Snow is truly in the light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart warming, compassionate and enlightening for sure.
This is the best book I have read.I read daily and read multiple books in a month and this is by far the bestbook with so much heart, compassion, important and invaluable information in it for everyone.Tiffany Snow is an awesome, down to earth, and compassionate person who lives her life for God and is the happier and better for it.She is free of the ties that bind us and gives from the heart and this book and her other books and her daily life are examples of the compassion and giving this woman has been given and all I can say is "Thank you God for Tiffany Snow".She can show you the REAL God and the REALITY of life in this world and how to enhance your life so you can be happy, healthy, free and get to know the only person who really matters, "GOD".I found this book to be full of wonderful heartfelt stories and examples of how everyone should live their lives to get the most out of them and to serve God, which is the whole reason we are here to begin with.Tiffany Snow sees that and has dedicated her life to it and I for one applaud the work she does and thank God for her and all the ways HE lets Tiffany's light shine through for the rest of us.We could all learn a big lesson from Tiffany and if you read the book and get nothing more than happiness and a sense of feeling good about what she does, then you will have gained a lot from the book and Tiffany.I hope you will read this wonderful book that has something to offer everyone even if it is just in telling of her adventures with others. Please do yourself a favor and read this marvelous book.I don't think you will be sorry you did.

1-0 out of 5 stars wow
Hands down, this book is the most idiotic Christian propaganda I have ever read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique and Profound Read
THE only book ever written that is both ALL PSYCHIC and ALL RELIGIOUS, perhaps it's the only one! Unique understandings, different from most NDE books - has exercises to wake up the NDE in all of us. Some spiritual books have an air of cult about them, this book has no such thing. Great, great, great read. ... Read more

He has heard all kinds of stories about "Hollywood" ministers who hold their church services on television, live in nice houses, drive nice cars, and have lots of money and women. Darrin is disgusted by it all especially when his mother Priscilla starts shouting praises for Atlanta Bishop Kumal Prentiss. Darrin decides to go to Atlanta, become a member of the bishop's church, and expose him for the hustling fraud that he believes he is. He just never planned on falling in love with the Bishop's daughter.

Darrin suddenly finds himself torn between his new found friend and his possible big break. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT Read!
I couldn't put the book down. If you're looking for scandal and drama, this isn't the book for you. It was a cute, romantic boy meets girl love story. I related and connected to the main character so much. She's the daughter of a popular Bishop whose life revolves around everyone else but herself. She meets an out of town journalist who wants to expose scandal in her father's ministry, but he becomes distracted. I really enjoyed this book. It's a light-hearted story that is sure to make you smile by the end.

KC Girlfriends Book Club Reviewers use a specific book review template. These are the five elements that we use to help come up with the score for our reviews:
1. Book Presentation (title, cover and synopsis)
2. Book Price
3. Character Development
4. Storyline
5. Editing

Our reviews will reflect these important aspects that we think should be apart of a book review from an avid reader's prospective.

Book Presentation: 1pt
I thought that the title, cover and synopsis complimented each other perfectly. Very appealing to the eye.

Book Price: 1pt
Price was very comparable to books in the same genre and pages offered.

Character Development: 1pt
I loved all of the characters in the book...even the ones that you loved to hate! Everyone was relative to the storyline and the characters definitely held the reader's attention.

Storyline: 1pt
I really loved the storyline. There was enough drama and believable situations in the book that if I could have been a fly on the wall...that's the only way that this storyline could have been better!

Editing: 1pt
No problems here!

Reviewer's Comments: This is the first book I've read by Tiffany L. Warren and I'm already a newfound fan of hers! This was definitely a book that kept your attention. You know that there's definitely a message in this book but it didn't come across this way. Ms. Warren definitely knows how to tell a story that will capture your attention and keep you wanting to go back for more. I will be going back to purchase the previous books by Ms. Warren and will definitely look forward to reading all of her books in the future!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book; even though it seemed unrealistic!
I read this book in two days because it was very well written.I especially liked the blog entries of Darrin and would have liked more blog entries from him.

I am sure others have summarized the book's contents, so I won't do that.I will just list the positives and negatives:

Positives
1. Well written
2. Positive religious storyline without being too preachy
3. Interesting and flawed characters and not over the top (very realistic)

Negatives
1. Darrin joined the church and got saved very quickly; it was like after 1 church service or something
2. Darrin didn't really seemed changed to me.One woman wouldn't have sex with him so he moved on to the one that would have sex with him; didn't seem that changed to me.
3. It was too easy for the author to make Oscar the villain and homely looking and Darrin the saint and good looking; this was stereotypical and sort of too much.
4. Emoni's instaneous change seems very unrealistic.Emoni went from being celibate, homebound, and santified to flirtatious, outgoing, and a sinner in a span of a week or so; it seemed a bit much.

I thought the book was a good book, almost great, but the quick changes in people were just not realistic.

3-0 out of 5 stars Bishop's Daughter
Perfect for : Personal reading, book club read (discussion questions included)

In a nutshell: The book is written in three voices: 1. Darin Bainbridge 2. The Diary of a Mad Black Blogger (Darin's online blog personality), 3. Emoni Prentiss (the eldest daughter of Bishop Prentiss, single). Darin learns of Bishop Kumal Prentiss from his current fling, and decides that the Bishop and his 30,000+ followers are worth investigating - there has to be some scandal surrounding the Bishop! He travels from Cleveland to Atlanta to write the story, and as he goes to the church to begin investigating, his life begins to change in ways he least expected! It took quite a few chapters for me to really get hooked, but somewhere around chapter 14 I couldn't put the book down! This is a wonderful story about a pastor and his family, and how God works and touches everyone's lives.

Extended Review: He wants to write an expose about Bishop Prentiss, whom he is determined is cheating his 30,000+ followers somehow - Darin just needs to discover what he is doing! She wants to find a husband, but being the eldest daughter of Bishop Prentiss has made Emoni sort of off-limits so far! Darin is immediately appreciative of Emoni when he sees her in church, but he is determined not to become involved with her because it could compromise his goal of writing an expose on her father. The Bishops family is lovable in a quirky sort-of down-home way. I liked the fact that they were real people trying to make the best choices.

Characters: Darin Bainbridge is the son of a wealthy business owner who has been living off his father with the help of his mother, he is now on a mission to write an expose article about Bishop Prentiss, a very successful preacher with 30,000+ followers. Darin also writes a blog: The Diary of a Mad Black Blogger, where he talks about what is going on in his life/investigations. Then we have the handsome (not pretty) Emoni Prentiss, the single, eldest daughter of Bishop Prentiss.

Story-Line: We get a good look into the Bishop's family - both ups and downs - as Darin joins the church and becomes close to the family during the course of his investigation. Darin too undergoes life changing events, and must ultimately decide whether or not to share what he does learn about the family.

Readability: I struggled with the a little of the blogging dialect, but grew used to it. Otherwise, the book was a fairly easy and quick read.

Overall: I've never really considered what it would be like to be a pastor's daughter. This book presented readers with a nice look into one such family, and how faith and family impacted each person, including friends of the family. In the end, we learn that sometime it is good to leave some skeletons in the closet, while embracing others. I enjoyed the ending of the book and feel that the discussion questions at the end are very thoughtful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bishop's Daughter
The Bishops' Daughter was a great read. I really enjoyed the storyline as that related to "Church Folk". It's amazing that as Christians, we are supposed to live holy and lead a sanctified life on a daily basis. But as you and I know, we don't live in a perfect world and "we die daily to our flesh".It appears that as soon as we mess up, Church folk will be the first one to judge us instead of to encourage and support.
This novel also touches on the stereotypes that Pastors may have. I believe that this stems from the fact that some people are truly led to preach and others just go on their own accord for their own personal agenda.I am pretty sure that you may have encountered both types if you have been around the church for any length of time.
Tiffany really articulated her characters in a way that was easy for the reader to understand. I loved the way the author included what dating while trying to live holy should look like. This novel gave a realistic point of view from a man's perspective; I think this is I personally enjoyed The Diary of the Mad Black Blogger .
I would recommend this novel to anyone who interested in being true to you. Struggling with forgiveness and stepping out on faith for what God has planned for you.
Be Encouraged!

5-0 out of 5 stars An accidental find, an absolute delight!
I found this book in the discount bin in a bookstore on the boardwalk along the Jersey shore. I had accidentally left the books I had intended to read at home and was looking for something to take to the beach with me. I ended up devouring this book cover to cover so quickly that I had to go back for more books. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the writing style and loved the story. I quickly grew fond of Judith and became very invested in how things would turn out for her. It isn't often that I am easily swayed into putting aside the actual life of a real person used in historical fiction. However, we know precious little about the real Judith, and I highly doubt her real story could be more compelling than what Ms. Tiffany has written. A good read, especially for young women with an independent streak like Judith's.

3-0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars...Some of it Was Very Good
There are parts of this novel that I thought were very well written and interesting but the story builds tension to the middle and the ending seemed like a bit of an after thought.

Tiffany creates a likeable character in her fictionalized Judith Shakespeare and portrays a sweet and loving sibling bond between Judith and her twin Hamnet.I enjoyed Judith's adventures and her relationship with her father.

But the historical record indicates that Judith Shakespeare appears to have been illiterate, therefore this story could never have taken place.I would have preferred Tiffany to wrap her story around the known history. And if she couldn't do that then perhaps she could have written about a fictional playwright? That would have been my preference.

I think that Grace Tiffany is a talented writer.I hope she continues to work onher craft and produce novels with all of the accomplishments of this one but more consistently.I would try her again if the novel sounded compelling.

4-0 out of 5 stars Life with Shakespeare
What would it be like to live with Shakespeare? In this book Grace Tiffany brilliantly imagines Shakespeare's family--his brothers, his estranged wife, and his spunky daughter, Judith. The book begins by describing Judith and her twin, Hamnet, who share a childhood filled with acting out scenes from their father's plays. Then a game goes terribly wrong and Hamnet dies. Judith blames herself. She is also furious with her father when he writes TWELFTH NIGHT, which seems to mirror her situation.

In a true Shakespearean twist, Judith disguises herself as a boy and acts in the play--a girl pretending to be a boy pretending to be a girl pretending to be a boy!

This book is filled with fascinating details about life in Shakespeare's time. It is a quick, enjoyable read, especially for anyone at least a little familiar with Shakespeare's work. I did think there needed to be a little more resolution at the end, especially concerning Judith's love interest, but I still highly recommend the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Romp through renaissance England
William Shakespeare had a daughter named Judith; that's a fact, but this book is a fictional account of his relationship with her. In My Father Had a Daughter, protagonist Judy finds her grief over the death of Hamnet, her brother, on display in one of her father's plays. In the guise of a boy, Judy travels to London where her father spends most of his time working. She plans to ruin the opening of "Twelth Night."

A young girl traveling alone in sixteenth century London is a dangerous thing. Shady characters are everywhere, and a young man even threatens to reveal her secret unless she sleeps with him. Judy finds herself caught up in the glamourous (?) life of the theatre and meets famous actors like Richard Burbage and Will Kemp.

Shakespeare fans will enjoy this romp through Renaissance England although it is suggested they overlook discrepancies between fact and fiction. I found the story to be anticlimactic to a small extent; after the adventure in London, the book continues as a memoir of Judith as an adult. Still a good read though.

5-0 out of 5 stars Judith Shakespeare

4-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful resource for the vintage Tiffany timepiece owner/collector/admirer
A wonderful history of the Company and the time peices they sold.Beautifully illustrated with archival photos not seen elsewhere, this significant book gives a real 'feel' for the quality and enviability of Tiffany, especially in the early years.Unfortunately, too little time is spent on the really early, priceless pieces, with the emphasis on the more 'modern' (post Depression era) pieces....not surprising, since the author was the director of design for so many of these later peices, that the book often feels a little too self congratulatory.Still, for the owner/collector/admirer of the early T&Co. pieces, this book is a must. ... Product Description
Against the unforgettable backdrop of New York near the turn of the twentieth century, from the Gilded Age world of formal balls and opera to the immigrant poverty of the Lower East Side, bestselling author Susan Vreeland again breathes life into a work of art in this extraordinary novel, which brings a woman once lost in the shadows into vivid color.

It’s 1893, and at the Chicago World’s Fair, Louis Comfort Tiffany makes his debut with a luminous exhibition of innovative stained-glass windows, which he hopes will honor his family business and earn him a place on the international artistic stage. But behind the scenes in his New York studio is the freethinking Clara Driscoll, head of his women’s division. Publicly unrecognized by Tiffany, Clara conceives of and designs nearly all of the iconic leaded-glass lamps for which he is long remembered.

Clara struggles with her desire for artistic recognition and the seemingly insurmountable challenges that she faces as a professional woman, which ultimately force her to protest against the company she has worked so hard to cultivate. She also yearns for love and companionship, and is devoted in different ways to five men, including Tiffany, who enforces to a strict policy: he does not hire married women, and any who do marry while under his employ must resign immediately. Eventually, like many women, Clara must decide what makes her happiest—the professional world of her hands or the personal world of her heart. ... Read more

Product Description
Two enormously popular subjects-dazzling jewelry by Tiffany's designers and fabulous fashion photography-combine in the newest book by Tiffany design director John Loring, author of many resplendent volumes about American style seen from the vantage point of the preeminent purveyor of fine jewelry and other luxury goods.

Fashion experts credit Coco Chanel and her "little black dress" of 1924 with bringing fashion into modern times. But it took great fashion photography by notables from Steichen to Hiro, and jewelry as the ultimate fashion accessory, to propel fashion on its way to becoming the star-studded industry it is today. Tiffany in Fashion is a veritable visual feast-with 250 glamorous images tracing the simultaneous growth of fashion photography and fine jewelry, from Richard Avedon's society fashion portrait for Harper's Bazaar of Elizabeth Taylor's bare back bedecked in exquisite Tiffany cultured pearls, to Scavullo's photograph of Paloma Picasso wearing her amply scaled gold earrings and bracelet, polygonal amethyst ring, and chrysophase bracelet. Eleanor Lambert, the "godmother of American fashion," and dean of American fashion designers James Galanos add their personal reminiscences to John Loring's engaging and informative text. ...
