By 1915, she had landed a job as one of Ziegfeld's famous "Follies" girls. Before long her beauty was discovered by Hollywood, where she quickly became one of the biggest names in motion pictures. Her marriage to film star Jack Pickford further enhanced her popularity. Olive's death by poison on September 10, 1920, created a media circus. FINALLY!!! A book on Olive Thomas and it's AMAZING!!!
Olive Thomas was one of Hollywood's saddest stories. Her early death, at the height of her career, was one of the first controversial, sordid and tragic tales to emerge from the film industry in the 1920's.

So much speculation has surrounded her death - until now! I was so engrossed in this book, I didn't want it to finish! I was very impressed with the thorough research the author did, including photos of the nightclubs (then and now) that Olive frequented during her last days alive in France. It's hard to imagine that being involved with the Pickford family would be a detriment, but in Olive's case, her marriage to Mary's brother, Jack Pickford, was most certainly the reason why Olive's life came to such an abrupt end.

Reading about her final days in Paris, the events leading up to her death, the speculation and theories surroundingher death and then deducting if it was truly an accident, suicide or even murder, was very thought provoking indeed. The author gives the reader a boatload of information to digest and the various scenarios really make you realize howawful Olive's last days must have been.

Did Olive kill herself? Did Jack Pickford murder her? Was it a freak accident?

If you're at all curious about Olive Thomas and early Hollywood, I would highly recommend this book to you. The photographs are a beautiful compliment to a well-written story. There's also a complete filmography at the back of the book. Hopefully, one day, more of Olive's films will be released on DVD and new generations will be able toenjoy her beauty and extraordinary talent once more.

Mysterious Death of Olive Thomas
This worthwhile biography of the silent movie star Olive Thomas contains many scarce photographs and interesting information on her short and often sad life. Her premature death by poisoning remains a mystery and author Michelle Vogel is wise not to draw any definitive conclusions.

This book will hopefully introduce Olive Thomas to a wider audience.

A brilliant answer to Who was Olive Thomas

Thank you Michelle Vogel for a concise primer of the life and death of the beautiful Olive Thomas, she was a true silent film beauty.

That is not to say that there were not other silent film beauties nor was Olive Thomas's beauty just limited to silent films. According to the book, Ollie was voted the "most beautiful girl in New York" in the illustrator, Howard Chandler Christry's contest. The artist, Harrison Fisher added that she was in fact the "most beautiful in the world", all this by 1915; the year she divorced her first husband and entered the Follies, she hadn't even entered films, yet and this is just 4 pages into the book.

Her life was lived fast and sadly it was much, much, much too short.This little book is very much in the same vain, it moves quickly through the life of Olive Thomas, stopping only at the major points in her life and is shortly dealing with her inopportune death and its aftermath.

It is a book for the beginner, a place to find all the usual stories; it is not a book for the obsessive fanatical hunter of new novel theories, who has read all the martial. It is a brilliant answer to the question, "Who was Olive Thomas"; it is a prefect gift to introduce her to a friend.

There are 10 chapters, a good discussion of the problems of nitrate film storage, a number of photos, a very complete chronology of her performances, a nice index and best of all - wonderful citations, for those of us who like that kind of thing.

Just one story about Ollie and her second husband, the prince of the royal family of Pickford, Jack; Once upon a time, they danced.It was 1916 and they were young and moved together as if created from the same piece of warm amber. By their 3rd date, Jack gave her a small platinum case inscribed "To Olive Thomas, the only sweetheart I will ever have."Now don't you want to read the book?

This book has been a great introduction to Rawls and his Theory of Justice.As a non-professional this book provided for me a great overview of the major important parts of the theory.It also provides a set of critiques brought on by others and by the author himself.Most objections to portions of the theory are addressed but Pogge has offered others that are still open to discussion.The book covers not just the Theory of Justice but the restatement and current topics relating to the theory.All-in-all a very good read. ... This book is good for academics that need a history of focus groups and a summary of research studies that investigate the technique itself.This is an interesting history, with many studies weighing in on what makes focus groups better or worse.But, as a practitioner, there is little that I found particularly new or insightful in the book.I think that Stewart's work is a better guide for someone that needs details on how to conduct a focus group.So, while good for PhD students, this book I found less good for managers. ... A study of cognitive development in the present and future
As the neurosciences continue to develop there will be more of an emphasis on cognitive development as measured within the brain. It is hoped that this text is ushering in the "new" study of developmental "psychology". The behavioral observations made by Piaget and others in the twentieth century was a start in this frontier. While many of the early observations are supported by recent research, much is being learned about specific details of cognitive development and the impact of experiences in an individual's life.

Nelson, DeHaan and Thomas demonstrate what the study of the development of memory, attention, social cognition, spatial cognition will be like in future texts.

This text is highly recommended for any professional involved in the cognitive development of children. While some of the jargon may prove cumbersome to the novice, it will be beneficial to "wade" through the pages to cull out what can be applied in the specific setting.

Probably should be a required text for educators and all health professionals involved in working with children and young adults.

Guidelines valuable to everybody
I found this book unexpectedly useful, complete and easy to read. It contains the kind of statistical knowledge that medical people do like to see. It is not another textbook that reviews medical statistics. However it provides the clues to understand and classify all these statistical jargon and processes that cause difficulties to eveybody that loves to handle statistics himself.I fully recommend it

Fantastic Reference for Preparing for Peer-Reviewed Manuscript Submissions
This is the best reference book I have found on the topic of how to present data for manuscripts to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals.It is easy to use, super easy to understand, and covers all elements of the manuscript preparation process as far as data representation is concerned. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a book on the subject. It includes many examples of data tables, figures, and even examples of how to write up titles and data descriptions.

The material is presented in a way that will help medical writers understand clinical trials more fully, and answer questions that come while writing.

I am glad to read this book before I prepared for my statistical clinical studies. This book could give you basic ideas, but you need to discuss with your collegues or use more advanced books to improve further.

Understanding biostatistics without becoming a statistican
As a medical writer and editor at The Cleveland Clinic, Thomas A. Lang found that the lack of clear understanding of statistics by non-statisticians affected the clarity of their writing. Wonderful gift for a friend!
I received this book as a gift, and after seeing how special it is, I decided to buy a few to give as gifts as well.It allows you to personalize the gift by writing specific things about the gift receiver in the book, like "This is how you have made a difference in my life, "You bring happiness to others by, " and "Here are some of the wonderfully unique things I appreciate about you," just to mention a few.The illustrations are colorful and cheerful, and the quotes are very meaningful.It's definitely a feminine book, so I think it would go over better with the women.The friend that gave it to me also wrote other things in the book that went along with a picture or a quote, and that made it even more special.When I received "I Celebrate You!" it was so meaningul that it brought tears to my eyes.This book is a perfect small gift for that special friend in your life! ...
