Waiting for the next...
All is fair in love and war
The Grass isn't Always Greener... Thugged out but warmhearted, Jason Thomas has built an empire consisting of a bona fide business and one of shady dealings, both have afforded him the opportunity to amass great wealth.Although wealth is great, his true focus and dedication is that of the welfare of his family and friends. It's much too bad that his wife, doesn't recognize this and Jason has anything but her dedication, as he soon discovers when a plot to bring about his untimely demise is uncovered.Jason withholds his knowledge of the planned attempt against his life. But the plot does thicken when Jason confronts his wife and good friend David regarding the tawdry affair that they've managed to keep secret right under his nose. The characters in Twisted are bold, brazen, and at times I felt as, a few may have stepped right out of the personals in the Sunday newspaper, while others have allowed their selfish nature to get the best of them only to realize later and with much regret that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Not only are the main characters twisted in their thinking and actions, but the story also takes a series of unexpected twist. If there is one thing this story isn't, that is predictable.Just when you believe you know, what's coming next there's a twist and I found this enjoyable.I also liked the pace in which the story moves, we forgo the soup and salad and go right for the meat and potatoes in this tale.Like many African American male writers, Brian delves right in getting to the heart of this quick read. Twisted is Brian's debut release and I was presented an opportunity to review the unedited version. There were typos and grammatical errors that I'm sure will be corrected in the final version of this urban tale. For an air of realism, profanity and relaxed language is frequently used.Brian is an imaginative storyteller with a bright future ahead of him. If drama is what you crave, then get ready to wet your appetite with Twisted. ... Read more |

Tsar Bomba
where's the beef? As an antigravity researcher who has conducted numerous scientific experiments over the years in this area, I have significant problems with his claims. He supposedly built his first SEG (Searl effect generator) when he was 14, and claimed he ultimately went on to build over 40 such devices. It is alleged that he demonstrated these craft for countless hundreds or thousands of people over the decades, and his devices were filmed by numerous camera crews working for various TV networks, including the BBC, and were seen by millions on Canadian TV.The problem is that he apparently cannot produce one person who witnessed these craft or any film or video footage of these devices. In fact, he doesn't even have a single photograph of an actual SEG.The photos in the back of the book show only wooden frames; at no time do you ever see the "drive unit" itself. The photos that show the disc hovering in the air are actually superimposed. The devices were apparently built on "the law of the squares", his own mathematical theory which appears to be nonsensical. He has written a series of books on the "law of the squares", which he and the author are selling for a minimum of $[$$] per volume, or hundreds of dollars for all of the books. He has claimed that he wants to give his knowledge to the world, but has never given any level of detail which would allow anyone to replicate his "inventions". ... Searl and the author claim they do not have a working device due to lack of funds, which they are seeking. One wonders how Searl received funding in the '40s and '50s sufficient to build at least 40 devices, some which were claimed to be over 40 feet in diameter, and orbited the planet for ten years.Without any corroborating evidence, these claims are simply not credible. In the end of the book, Searl predicts that there will be a pole shift on 5-5-2000 that will devastate the planet.Perhaps he should have simply stuck to his claims of producing antigravity.

Editorial Review Product Description Until now, little has been known about Nathan "Shanks" Evans, a prominent and highly controversial Confederate general who served throughout the Civil War in several theaters of operations. Thankfully, because of a recently discovered cache of his personal papers--long rumored to exist but never before seen--it is now possible to present his fascinating Civil War odyssey largely in his own words. Shanks covers Evans's entire amazing career, from his brave stand with a brigade at the famous stone bridge at First Manassas to his controversial months in North and South Carolina, where his erratic and harsh behavior earned the ire of much of his subordinate officer corps. Fighting in nearly every important campaign of the war, the famous brigade under his command was so well traveled it was known throughout the army as "The Tramp Brigade." Viewing the Civil War and the actions of his men through Evans's eyes is an engrossing new perspective and adds substantially to the literature of the Civil War. Customer Reviews (5)
The partial rehabilitation of an historical drunk
Disapointed!
A concise and neat biography
An engaging read and scholarly sound For someone unitiated to the life of General Evans, like myself, the narrative portions of the book gave a real feel for his times and motivations. The battle descriptions are certainly more than who moved his forces where and such. A real sense of the character of Gen. Evans and how his leadership style meshed with the flow of the Confederate Army opened up to me the depth of the military action and struggle of battles, like Manassess, that I am already familiar with. Letting the participants speak for themselves through their own personal letters is well done, especially since the narrative flows well with the letters. Again, the only complaint would be the lack of maps, other than that this is a fine read for the general reader and for those concerned with the details of the Civil War and Confederate leadership.
The FirstBiography of Shanks Evans Is a Solid Success The strength of the book lies in the authors' skillful use of the private papers of General Evans that his descendent, Beverly Evans, had carefully conserved and made available to his two co-authors. Rather than foisting their own interpretations of Evans on the reader, the authors allow the general to speak for himself, mostly through his previously unpublished familyletters as well as his military correspondence. The picture of Evans that emerges from the book is at odds with the common perception of him as an impetuous, brawling brigadier with a fondness for alcohol. A West Point graduate and an accomplished Indian fighter before the war, Evans' resigned his commission in the U.S. Army shortly after his native state seceded from the Union. Despite his spectacular early successes at First Manassas, Ball's Bluff and Secessionville, and solid performances at Second Manassas and Antietam, Evans' promotions stalled out at the rank of brigadier general. His failure to obtain the coveted rank of major general traced to a series of running disputes with both his subordinate and his superior officers that resulted in two courts martial of Evans during 1863. Though acquitted in both proceedings, Evans' public reputation never recovered, and he spent the balance of the war in obscurity. He died in 1868, aged only 44, still struggling to rebuild his life from the war. Superbly written and grounded in sound research, SHANKS contains some previously unpublished photographs of Evans and his family. Maps would have augmented the battle descriptions. But despite their absence SHANKS is a fine book that sheds positive, new light on an obscure but important military figure. Readers with an interest in South Carolina, or in the early Civil War in the East, will especially enjoy the book. Review by C. Michael Harrington Mr. Harrington is a member of the Houston Civil War Roundtable and Civil War Aficionados. He has written articles on two officers in Evans' Brigade. A practicing lawyer, he has degrees in economics from Yale and Cambridge and a law degree from Harvard. ... Read more |

Editorial Review Product Description A Queer Film Classic: this brilliant 1974 Canadian cinema verité film, set in Montreal's bohemian neighborhood "The Main" and hailed at its Whitney Museum debut, is a fascinating take on social mores and relationships in the 1970s and a twentysomething photographer's attraction for the teenaged son of acquaintances. |

Well written and easy to follow descriptions The book is supposed to be only for overnight backpacking trips, but there are many trails here that can be used for day hikes. These trips will be in the 10-16 mile range and any strong hiker can easily do these hikes in one day. If you do choose to go the multi-day backpacking route, Winnett describes water sources, camping sites and addresses whether bears or marmots might be a problem for you. Most importantly, he tells you where to find water and whether the water source is reliable throughout the whole year. I can't recommend this guide highly enough. Even if you're an armchair hiker, you'll derive many hours of vicarious joy from this guide.
Great trip planning resource
