Product Description
That’s Quite a Subtitle.
And maybe just a little misleading. Although it may sound like an in-depth study, Sunny (from the subtitle above) is the main character in this whimsical metaphysical adventure and her name quite adequately describes her personality. The story begins as Sunny is given a once-in-a-rare-lifetime opportunity to travel to another planet in a distant solar system. What surprises await her after meeting the planet’s inhabitants (seven species of beings, each a total incarnation of one aspect of our human consciousness) is where the fun begins.

Metaphysics in Action.
Earthbridge Crossing is an allegorical story. You will soon recognize the characters Sunny meets in the world around you—right here on Earth! They may not sparkle or be furry caricatures, however when you meet them, you will know them. And, in the spirit of true adventure, Sunny applies all she learns to master each situation as it unfolds, furnishing the reader with valuable insights for everyday living.

Feel Good.
If you are looking for heartache, violence, sex, or melodrama, this is not the book for you. But, if you want to smile and feel good, while learning some useful things about life, Earthbridge Crossing is a rare find. Readers are often surprised by how good the story makes them feel—and "feeling good" is a very healthy state of mind.

Recommended Reading.
Earthbridge Crossing is a book recommended for anyone desiring a joyful experience. It’s for thosewho want to be entertained while learning more about human consciousness: how to better understand the human psyche and how to better relate to people. It is the perfect gift for young and old alike, and especially suitable for guiding young, developing minds along the road of light and love.

More than a mere fantasy, Earthbridge Crossing includes spiritual insights, quotes from the masters, pertinent scientific facts about space travel, quantum physics, parallel universes, and more. For those who want to dig deeper, an extensive bibliography of related works is included. ... Read more

By the way you're writing I'm sure I've got somesurprises in store and I'll be up AGAIN all night. Very nicely done, entertaining, and VERY refreshing. It's one of those books that you hate toturn the last page on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yummy
Over the past couple of years I've been trying to wean myself off eating red meat all the time.No I am not a vegetarian, but realize I need to cut back on meat as I get older.

This cookbook is not for sissies. The recipes are very quick and easy to make, and are fantastic!

5-0 out of 5 stars British Vegetarian Recipes
I remember my best British meal like I ate it yesterday. It was October of 1993 and I'm driving a Peugeot from London to Bangor, Wales.I pull off the M6 in a town named Walsall, just north of Birmingham, and stop at a Balti shop operated by a Sikh "geez-ah".Everything I ate was made from scratch - mashed potatoes from real hand-peeled potatoes, fresh baked "nahn" bread (yummy!), and Walls ice cream made from milk, cream, and sugar minus the guar gum in most American ice creams. The point is that the British take the time necessary to prepare and cook some serious cuisine.

British author Heather Thomas has produced a great vegetarian cookbook featuring 150 British recipes.Paul and Linda McCartney add some spice by contributing a foreward. The chapters are Soups and Starters, Pasta Dishes, Rice, Grains and Legumes, Egg and Cheese Dishes, Snacks and Fast Food, Side Dishes and Salads, Desserts (and fruits), Breads, and other bakery items. The easy-to-follow recipes are accompanied by an abundance of colorful photos. The glossy pages and vinyl covers give this useful text alot of protection in the hands of messy cooks.

Heather Thomas offers a variety of recipes for a British vegetarian cuisine. This text is also a good beginner's primer for vegetarian cooking. The recipes are not difficult to follow.Vegetarians will like this cookbook. ... Read more

Product Description
With nearly every supermarket now featuring an “organic” section, the demand for organically grown meat and dairy products has risen rapidly in recent years. Small farmers have taken note, and many more beginners are considering cattle as a viable farm commodity. Getting Started with Beef & Dairy Cattle is the essential handbook for this growing audience.

Heather Smith Thomas, a lifelong cattle rancher and author of several previous books for more experienced farmers, offers a succinct layperson’s guide to the basics of raising a small herd of cattle, whether for meat or dairy products. She outlines organic and natural farming methods and covers all the information needed to get started and be successful.

Getting Started with Beef & Dairy Cattle
encourages new and beginning farmers to start small, and start right. Thomas explains as simply as possible the basics of selecting and raising a calf, along with feeding, shelter, and care guidelines. She also covers breeding and calving, as well as tips for managing a herd throughout the seasons. There’s basic health care information for preventing disease and addressing common ailments. For those raising beef cattle, Thomas offers guidelines for butchering; for those raising dairy cattle, there are step-by-step guidelines on milking.

With a whole new generation returning to the farm who don’t have a family history of farming, Getting Started with Beef & Dairy Cattleis a much-needed resource. Heather Smith Thomas has devoted her life to passing on the knowledge, understanding, and attitude necessary to become a successful farmer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative read--both for raising beef and dairy cattle
Though I haven't read any other cattle books to compare it to, I found Heather Smith Thomas's Getting Started with Beef and Dairy Cattle informative and surprisingly detailed for its size. Noticing the "Getting Started" part of the title, I expected the scope of this book to be considerably limited and read more like a Dummy's how-to guide. It was, in fact, anything but shallow. The detail put into the medical section was particularly impressive; Heather writes about numerous ailments that can afflict your cattle, including which cattle are the most susceptible, how to prevent it, and how to treat it. The book also includes a brief glossary, and concise descriptions and color photos of beef and dairy breeds.
Personally, I picked up this book for the dairy information, but actually found information within the beef chapters that applied to cattle management in general. (If you buy this book for the dairy or beef information exclusively, be sure to read the book in its entirety, rather than skip around.)
As another customer said, I wish Heather had been more detailed concerning nutrition. She's pretty general, discussing carbs and where they're found, for example, rather than giving you an idea of what cattle's daily diet might look like.
This book definitely has something to offer and is well worth looking into!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, informative book
This book was very informative for my neighbor and myself who bought 3 calves each to raise for beef.Feeding specifications were pretty general, but informative.See your local farmers coop for help picking out a good feed for your animals if you don't know what you are quite doing yet.Our local MFA proved to be very helpful.

The book has and EXCELLENT section on the health and wellness of your cow.I learned more than I would of ever imagined in this section of the book. There is a rather extensive section of book pertaining to dairy cows, which I read anyway and it was very informative.

The suggestions that were given in this book were very handy for an amatuer farmer such as myself.Would recommend for anyone buying/owning their cow!

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting Started With Beef and Dairy Cattle
I started reading it right away and realized it was over my head. But then as I continued through it, I knew there was too much information for just a quick read.I gave it to my husband, and he's going through it now. Since he works offshore, he's able to read and reread and even read again those parts that are 'foreign' to us.But once you've eliminated the parts that won't pertain to your cattle, it's a great book. There's almost enough to make it 2 separate books so it would be easier on a novice. It's a book every "wanna be" cattleperson should read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic--as usual!
I have a number of Heather Smith Thomas' horse books as well as Storey's Gude to Raising Cattle and I think this is one of Heather's best so far. As is typical of her writing (and Storey books in general), everything is presented in an orderly, interesting, and easily absorbed manner--the great illustrations are icing on the cake! I have only one bovine, a pet steer at that, yet the cattle care information in this volume was as applicable to my one steer as it would be to a herd of farmed beef cattle. This is by far the most useful small-scale cattlekeeping guide I've yet seen. Highly recommended! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book.
I got this book because I wanted to understand more about hoof care, as at the barn I was at there were many discussions on whether a horse should be barefoot or wear shoes.I think this book is good at covering the basics of horse hoof care but does spend more time on the topic of shoes and types etc.I only gave it 4 stars because I would have liked more information on keeping your horse barefoot. But for a first basic book I think it is a good first step and gives you the basics so you can decided what you want to look further into. ... Product Description
It all starts with good horse sense. Anyone who understands how horses think, knows the basics of good horsemanship, and is aware of general safety practices when working around horses already has a leg up on what is necessary to train a horse. STOREY'S GUIDE TO TRAINING HORSES is a comprehensive volume that builds on that foundation and takes the trainer step-by-step through the training process, from handling the foal to ground work to mounted lessons and trailer training. While most training books focus on riding, this guide takes a broad view, presenting different methods and alternatives so you can tailor your approach to your particular horse. Author, rancher, and horse trainer Heather Smith Thomas explains how to avoid common mistakes and how to ensure mutual respect and a productive working relationship with your horse. She begins with training psychology - including how to think like a horse and the origins of the "flight or fight" response. Then she covers handling and positive, progressive training techniques for each stage of the horse's development. And since each horse is different, Thomas offers a variety of training methods designed to suit different temperaments. Furthermore, she emphasizes that a smart trainer puts the horse first, letting the horse learn at its own pace rather than trying to force the animal to an unrealistic training timetable.

Complete with a glossary of equine terms and a list of resources for additional information on horse training - including training clinics - this is an authoritative reference for trainers of all levels. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Stotey's Guide to Training Horses
Very easy to understand. Lots of pictures. Tells you Why you do it this way. Good book for beginer or experienced horseman.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful!
My husband checked out this book from the library because he got interested in working with my horses. I thought maybe I could learn something from it, too, so I started reading it. I was not impressed. All the book had was hypothetical situations, but nothing on how to correct behavior if your horse wasn't already perfect. For example: I have a yearling who I will be breaking to ride in two years. I was interested in how they went about with the initial mounting, etc. They suggested that you have someone hold your horse, then you lean on your horse, then you get up and viola! You are ready to start. I envision my horse maybe taking a step forward. Or maybe stepping to the side. Or backing up. Or perhaps even throwing in a buck. Do they cover this? Not at all, because obviously if you're training your horse right your horse would never even think of taking a step to the right, or stepping forward, or throwing in a buck the first time you mount him. The horse would stand perfectly still the first time ever that you mounted, so these issues don't need to be addressed. Nor do they cover how you should go about it if you don't have someone to help hold your horse. The entire book is like this-essentially, it is an idealized version of how to train, taking into account that your horse does exactly what he is supposed to the first time around and is never confused by you adding something new. And if your horse IS confused the first time you try something new, then obviously you did a very poor job training him. I do not recommend it at all for anyone who is actually serious about horse training.

4-0 out of 5 stars From soup to chestnuts.
Comprehensive and informative. The central theme is act early and act patiently. Lightness of pressure and knowing when to stop a lesson turns your horse into a dependable collaborator instead of a skittish adversary, Heather Smith Thomas writes.
"The essence of training is to use less and less pressure as the horse learns to respond, until he will perform the correct response at just the slightest touch."
Track trainers and others concerned about the seemingly increasing fragility of racehorses get food for thought from Thomas's tips.
Some examples,
1) GELD A MALE WHEN HE IS A FOAL...Perhaps doing this later, something done with some frequency in the racing world, lessens racing prowess.
2) HORSES HAVE SENSITIVE EARS...Then why are some racetracks located near airports and busy roadways? Isn't this likely to impair performance? Are gambling interests being put before horse health?
3) HORSES SHOULDN'T BE RIDDEN UNTIL THEY'RE 3 YEARS OLD..."The bones and joints of a two-year-old are not mature enough to handle athletic work with the weight of a rider." Although watching juvenile thoroughbreds compete is thrilling it's likely to be causing shorter careers. The handling of 2007 Preakness winner Curlin (who didn't race as a 2-year-old) might represent a new/old paradigm for restoring soundness to the racehorse. Perhaps this also points to why so many Kentucky Derby winners are "homebred."
Harness racing newcomers get a thorough explanation of the difference between trotting and pacing. Pacing, although far more prevalent in U.S. standardbred competition, is a less natural movement for the horse (in which the lateral legs move together) and is accompanied by less support, balance and traction on wet footing. Could this state of affairs also be shortening racing careers?
Desire for breeding dollars and slow-growing purses have certainly done their part to curtail track careers. Year-round racing is also highly cupable. And, more generally, as Thomas reminds us, being a racer is not a natural condition. Racing techniques must be taught, often done in a constrained and artificial atmosphere.
"Most horses never do a racing trot," she writes, "and many don't know how to extend their trot while ridden."

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic to more advanced subjects..
Great book for all levels and all abilities of riders. It DOES talk about a lot of basic things..such as SAFETY, tacking up, leading, handling, etc. However, it also addresses other things such as longeing, ground driving, trailer training, lightness and collection, lateral work, retraining the spoiled horse, and many other things without causing fear or distrust.
Great book- recommended

Product Description
Every cattle farmer — from the keeper of a family milk cow to the rancher overseeing a large herd — will gain confidence and control by becoming more knowledgeable about calving. Healthy pregnancies, safe births, and thriving calves are critical to every cattle operation, and in remote farm locations, the veterinarian is not always readily available. Even if the vet is nearby, the farm's finances will be healthier if the farmer can oversee most of the calving process.

Heather Smith Thomas, an expert on livestock with decades of firsthand experience, covers every routine situation likely to arise before, during, and after calving. And when the calving process is out of the ordinary, Thomas guides the farmer through pregnancy problems, difficult deliveries, recognizing when to call in a vet, and postpartum complications. Her thorough coverage of what to expect in every situation gives farmers the knowledge they need to care personally for their cows.

The second half of the book is dedicated to ensuring that every calf gets off to a healthy start. Thomas helps farmers work with cows reluctant to nurse, substitute mothers, and frail calves. A complete chapter on calfhood illnesses explains warning signs and offers tips on prevention and treatment.

As people return to farming in growing numbers, the demand for safe, humane livestock knowledge continues to increase. Farmers will turn to this reliable volume again and again as they welcome each new calf. ... Read more

This is a very easy to read and understand book.I have been raising beef cattle for a few years and have been very lucky with no serious problems. But the time has come to better educate myself and this is the best book that I have come across. The layout is easy for reference and with down to earth explainations for the average, non-vet person.Putting their personal experiences in takes out the textbook feel.I appreciate the pictures as I am a visual person. This is the 2nd book I have read by Heather Smith Thomas---she and her family are the type I would love to have as neighbors. All that knowledge and life experiences being passed on in her books. Great!

Editorial Review

Product Description
This is an invaluable collection of poetry for use by teachers at every stage of school life from primary to mid-teens. The poems are arranged by age of the child from six to fourteen, and provide support for the subject matter of lessons, from botany and physics to history and astronomy. They encompass a wide variety of moods from gratitude and wonder at the natural world to the courage and heroism of individuals pitted against the odds, and range from ancient Egypt to modern times. Works by well-known poets - Shakespeare, Blake, Wordsworth, Browning - are found together with the refreshingly unfamiliar. Sections on alliterative verse, riddles, rongue-twisters, action verses and the seasons of the year provide a stimulus for practical activities in the classroom. Also included are meditative verses for teachers to help them deepen their understanding of the children in their care. A resource book to treasure, it will awaken a love of poetry in both young and old. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd discovered this book sooner!
Wonderful.

We have chosen some of these poems for memorization, and some just for reading aloud and enjoying.I've caught my oldest two reading it for (*gasp*) FUN.:)

This is a wonderful addition to any curriculum at home.I like that there are short verses easy for a 5 yo to memorize, and some meaty ones that would be challenging for an adult to learn.

For those who may be concerned, there is Christian content... but not any-sided or biased to a certain faith-based point of view. There are poems about Christmas and religious in nature.Just a heads up to my non-Christian friends.

I wish we'd have discovered this little gem sooner!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
This is a great book with a huge content of poems, verses, rhymes, songs and prayer. There is a little something for every occasion, some old favourites and some never heard before. The reason this book has received only 4 stars is due to the number of entries with a Christian tone, it is however, nothing that could not be remedied with the changing of a word or two. All in all a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Use It All the Time
This book is very helpful to me as a Waldorf teacher for finding verses to use in Circle, as "graces" before meals, opening and closing verses, poems for recitation, and to practice letter sounds, to name a few. And this is only in first grade. I foresee using it all eight years. My only complaint is that I can't use some of the verses or have to alter them for use in a public charter school because of the references to God or angels, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars an indispensable Waldorf resource
I'm surprised that I'm the first person to review this item!
