MCITP
This comprehensive study guide is for anyone seeking to get their MCITP certification. This book contains the information you need to succeed.

This book BLOWS!!!!!
The chapters have little substance, but that's just the beginning. Aside from the choppy sentences that almost look like they were written by an ESL student, the Review Questions are simply terrible. They don't actually measure your knowledge and ability to apply the information. They just flat out suck. Steven Johnson might as well ask questions like "What am I thinking?", or perhaps list challenges like "Guess what's in my hand." Either one of these would be more challenging and relevant in preparation for the 70-647 exam than his mindless drivel. Therefore, Mr. Steven Johnson, I award you no points. And may God have mercy on your soul.

Not Recommended
In the "About the Author" of the book, it states that Steve spends most of his time either writing or flying airplanes.Based on what I have read, I hope Steven Johnson can fly airplanes better than writing.The material in this book is limited but, always gives you an advertisement for another Sybex book (I didn't buy this book to be pitched for others).Many of the items covered are obscure or just plan outdated, such as discussion of NT Servers.There are also too many outright errors in the material and/or review questions.When the book justifies an incorrect answer, you know you're in trouble. This book will not guide a candidate for the 70-647 exams down the proper path and will only confuse the reader.I too am a pilot, and if this book were a flight instruction manual, the plane would never land safely.
I have contributed to a couple of Microsoft exam development cycles as a subject matter expert and am MCITP'd, MCTS'd, MCSE'd, MCSA'd, and just generally MCP'd.I have studied for and have taken numerous Microsoft exams over the last 10 years. My recommendation is to bypass this book on your way to becoming prepared for the 70-647 exam.

You'll need more than this
I've already exhaustively studied the Microsoft Press 70-647 kit.I picked up the Sybex book to hopefully add to my knowledge for the 647 exam.I would describe the Sybex book as "light reading" compared to the MS Press kit, and I definitely do not think this book is enough to get you ready for the exam.The MS book is presented in a very dry, technical manner, where the Sybex book is more "conversational" in its approach.There are a fair amount of typos and some other things that should've been caught in editing.

Yes, there were some areas it went into more detail, or did a better job explaining, than the MS kit.So I can say it wasn't a waste by any means, it did help me round out my knowledge.But don't think you can study this book and be ready.It's not bad to have multiple sources to prep for these exams, so for that I'd say give it a read.

Not bad, but....
Overall, a good value, and cover *most* test objectives (albeit all books are a little long winded). You'll do well with this kit, but if you have any experience in the field (i.e.; you've been doing advanced systems infrastructure design worok for the past 15 years), you'l be VERY disappointed with the final volume: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator. Written by Steven Johnson (whose credentials include no training and working at Radio Shack), this book is full of errors, and comes from a trainer's point of view, with no real world expereince (Steven, if I'm wrong here please correct me, but it doesn't appear you've actually done any advanced design work). Regardless of the content of the 70-647 book, this kit is a good value, and the first four volumes are accurate and cover most of the required details. As a kit, this is very good value. ... WebLogic content is too diluted with other topics
I might change this opinion when I finish this book, but I am 150 pages through the book, and there is NOTHING except @WLServlet annotation and SessionID in regards of WebLogic. Now sure why they chose that title.

Inside WebLogic Server
I have been working with WebLogic Server over 10 years now, have been implemented and involved in many implementations for large projects, mentored teams for development and administration, still found this book extremely valuable, because of its insightful suggestions/solutions based on real experience as well as authors deep internal knowledge of the product. This book covers the topics beyond what product documents will provide, beyond how-to knowledge but will define solutions using what really is working and what is in many enterprises. I highly recommend this book whether you are an experienced WebLogic professional or someone who understands the product and have some knowledge on it. Owning this book will pay off big time when you need a solution that you cannot create just based on product docs, when you need a solution that is not just working but scalable and performing, a setup and configuration that is unique... This is a book based on real life experience hence it is not afraid to suggests things that may be a bit different then product docs and basic common knowledge on WebLogio (WLS).

Get Under the Covers
Any IT professional interested in improving their skills and knowledge of WebLogic Server will find this book an invaluable asset.The book covers many aspects of WebLogic Server, but more importantly it discusses the "under the covers" functionality.This information is extremely important when it comes to troubleshooting server and application issues.

Consulting professionals are often asked for the best practices for the implementation of messaging, web services, EJBs, deployment, etc.This book provides many of those answers.

I highly recommend this book to those who have a basic knowledge of WebLogic Server, but want to increase their expertise in a rapid fashion.

Good.. Not great.
I am a seasoned Weblogic administrator and trainer. Used the product since version 5.x. This book is a pretty good developer book, but not really a Oracle Weblogic book. The title eludes to being mostly about Weblogic and some about other stuff, but that is not the case at all. I was pretty bummed about the quantity of development topics that are not tied to Weblogic at all.

There are 15 chapters in the text, 9 are almost pure J2EE development, standard Web apps/JMS/EJB/Web Service stuff. The remaining chapters go into Weblogic. I am still baffled as to why we don't discuss a domain until Chapter 12 p547..I think that is really pretty important to a simple Web App developer looking to get started..

It is the ONLY book out there that is somewhat up to date, hence the 2 stars, but I still prefer the online docs at Oracle than this.. ... Read more

Hello All,

I was able to successfully pass the 70-621 this week.
On the Desktop Support Section - Enterprise I was able to score: 820
On the Configuring Windows Vista Client I was able to score: 867

I was quit impressed with my scores and thought it best to share the Resources that I used to prepare for this test incase someone else needs some direction.

On the Desktop Support Section - Enterprise I used: Exam Cram Exam 70-622 by Paul A. Mancuso and David R. Miller (ISBN-13: 978-0-7897-3719-9)

On the Configuring Windows Vista Client I used: MCTS Exam-620 "Sybex book.." by Michael Aldridge, Josh Evitt, Lisa Donald and James Chellis (ISBN: 978-0-470-10881-9)

I read both books completely through only 1 time.I also went through ALL the test questions contained in each kit only 1 time in study mode, viewing all the answers which were correct and wrong.I then went and took the test and to my surprise did quite well.I hope this will help someone else out there.


What's next for me? Today I just started studying for Microsoft exam 70-648 Upgrading Your MCSA on Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008.Next I will work on becoming Windows 7 Certified; because I know without a vision the future is obsolete.

used this to pass the exam, although I did use other reference materials as well. I don't think there is a all-inclusive book out there for any certification exam. anyhow, a good addition for anyone wanting to study.

Very good resource - passed the exam!
I've had very good experiences with the Sybex line of books, and this one is no exception. The book covers the exam topics very well, and provides hundreds of questions - the questions are the key to passing the exam, the more the better. The CD is also handy because you can carry a copy of the ebook on a flash drive wherever you go, and also provides the questions in an electronic format which is easier to test on. Although you shouldn't expect any single resource to be your sole source of information, this book provides a good starting point, and you can supplement the material with information from[..]. It took me three months of studying to pass the exam. Good luck!

Decent
While I did notice some errors, namely in the answer keys for the practice exams, the editorial problems were minimal.I had only limited experience with Vista so I wanted a study guide before I tested and I passed using only this book, so I cant complain.I have used Sybex several times. when the reviews say a title is effective, I use it.
