Product Description
Over his 30-plus-year acting career, Roy Scheider has redefined America's idea of a leading man, thanks to his talent for playing an urban everyman that audiences relate to and root for, despite flaws and failures.
He rose to fame in the early 1970s in the Oscar-winning films Klute and The French Connection (his first Oscar nomination). Roy garnered more critical acclaim in Jaws and Marathon Man, as well as a second Oscar nomination for All That Jazz.
Scheider's life and career are chronicled in this work. Beginning with his childhood in New Jersey, it traces his development from a community theater actor to a world-renowned movie star, and covers his more recent work in the Golden Globe-winning RKO 281 and the Shakespearean drama King of Texas. Includes a complete filmography and index. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great amount of information about the great Roy Scheider...
Roy Scheider was a great actor and very under-appreciated for his work in films such as THE FRENCH CONNECTION, SEVEN-UPS, JAWS, JAWS 2, SORCERER, BLUE THUNDER, 2010, 52 PICK-UP,THE FOURTH WAR etc...

It's great to have a book about Roy Scheider out there. This is basically a compilation of articles covering Scheider's career in chronological order. Diane Kachmar deserves credit for putting this book together and for doing such extensive research on Scheider.

My only complaint is I saw quite a few grammatical errors throughout the book and it seems cut and pasted together at times. Wasn't this book proof-read by the publisher?

Still buy it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Read R.I.P Roy
If you want the details of Roy Scheider's life on and off the screen , well then this is the book to read. Ive heard that Scheider as been called an "everyman's" actor and the description fits him to a tee..just look at him on the front cover of this book. He can play the caring lovable character and at the same time he looks as though he can take care of himself and save the day. Anyway, the first half of the book is interesting; you learn about Scheider's upbringing, his venture into movies, and his rise to fame. The second half of the book basically gets bogged down by a tiresome list of critics reviews for Scheider lesser known movies. Dont worry, Im not knocking Scheider's lesser known movies, some of them are pretty good. Im a fan of...here's a big surprise...JAWS and JAWS 2. SORCERER was a good creepy action flick. FRENCH CONNECTION was gritty and tough. He starred in a baseball disney movie; I cant remember the title, but he played on the detroit tigers. Sadly Roy Scheider passed away recently and the world of cinema lost a truly gifted unique and inventive actor. Luckiliy, he left behind a legacy unforgotten in his hit films. Films of Roy, I enjoy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Acting on great advice
This book is an excellent, no-nonsense, logical and creative report on fitness for life.I have been "acting on" the recommendations for about 6 weeks and my experience is 100% validating.I have ended my twice weekly visits to the chiropractor as I was over-exercising periodically, creating muscular soreness and discomfort, instead of exercising moderately every single day.I now do 30 minutes of sweat producing exercise every day on home equipment. No nonsense.30 minutes straight out of bed.Its liberating and exhilarating. So simple and so effective. The changes in my metabolism and the positive effect of the endorphins make for easier and better food/nutrition choices.Try it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A weight program that works!
I had done scores of diets, exercise programs, etc., and never kept the weight off.I had put on 20 extra pounds in the early 1990s, and simply couldn't get it off--not to mention that I have always struggled, dieted, procrastinated, etc., about my being overweight.

In February, 2000, I went on Acting Well. The key is using the log, doing the brief mental preparation in the morning, and understanding--just a little bit--how a properly trained actor creates a new role. It's all in the book, and it's all very simple.

Two years later?I took off around 25 pounds in the first year, going from 172 down to 145-150.I have settled in at 149 (I thoroughly enjoy weighing myself every day!), and sometimes drop a bit lower. It's important that I lost slowly, and even more important that I have NO trouble keeping it off.Now I am a thin person, and I enjoy the habits of a thin person.I know this will last for the rest of my life.

My only disappointment is that I didn't do it (it wasn't available, unfortunately) sooner.

I love my new me, which is really the me I always wanted to be.I never thought I'd make it though.Amazing!

And, incidentally, the book is a fun read; very well written. It debunks lots of stuff, medical and otherwise, and makes it clear that the problem is psychological, not physical.Calorie counting, excess exercising, dieting--they all don't work for more than a short time. This is a sensible, doable program; not a program, in fact, a life! After all, Shakespeare said that we're all only actors on a stage. With this plan, we can be good actors!

Product Description
Jaws is a 1975 American horror/thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name. The police chief of Amity Island, a fictional summer resort town, tries to protect beachgoers from a giant great white shark by closing the beach, only to be overruled by the town council, which wants the beach to remain open to draw a profit from tourists during the summer season. After several attacks, the police chief enlists the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter. Roy Scheider stars as police chief Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as marine biologist Matt Hooper, Robert Shaw as shark hunter Quint, Murray Hamilton as the Mayor of Amity Island, and Lorraine Gary as Brody's wife, Ellen. Jaws is regarded as a watershed film in motion picture history, the father of the summer blockbuster movie and one of the first "high concept" films. ... Read more

Excerpt:Bill Hicks William Melvin "Bill" Hicks (December 16, 1961 February 26, 1994) was an American stand-up comedian and satirist . His humor challenged mainstream beliefs, aiming to "enlighten people to think for themselves." Hicks used a ribald approach to express his material, describing himself as "Chomsky with dick jokes ." His jokes included general discussions about society, religion, politics, philosophy and personal issues. Hicks' material was often deliberately controversial and steeped in dark comedy . In both his stand-up performances, and during interviews, he often criticized consumerism , superficiality, mediocrity and banality within the media and popular culture , describing them as oppressive tools of the ruling class, meant to "keep people stupid and apathetic." Hicks died of pancreatic cancer , which had spread to his liver, in 1994 at the age of 32. In the years after his death, his work and legacy achieved significant admiration and acclaim, of numerous comedians, writers, actors and musicians alike. He was listed as the 19th greatest stand-up comedian of all time by Comedy Central in 2004, and 6th greatest in 2007 and 4th greatest in 2010 by Channel 4 .
