Too bad printing...
I was frightened when I opened the book... The characters in the book look like a copied-material of a very very old 8-pin dot-printer output...

Teaches "Roberts," not C
This book is annoying with the way the author asks the user to write programs using his custom library functions, as opposed to the standard C commands.Because of this, I did not learn about scanf until probably the 7th or 8th week of the C programming course I was in.I feel like that alone warrants a 1-star rating.If you buy this book, you will be learning to program in "Roberts," not C.

Two great books
I have read and worked through both of Eric Roberts books on C.
Of all the programming books I have read, and there are many, his two are the best.

My only regret is that he has not written books on C++.

The Art and Science of C
I thought this was a wonderful beginners book. It gave me the basics and then allowed me to go on and try new things by myself. By the end I really felt like I could write my own programs in C.

I only gave it four stars because I think five would have to be a textbook that really brought the information to life, while this one was rather dry.

The Art and Science of C
I borrowed this book from library and believed I had made a right decision.

Quoted from the book, Mr. Roberts have been teaching computer science for over 20 years, I'm not sure how long he has taught C language but I suppose this book is written in a way that he believes is most beneficial to the readers, based on his teaching experience.

C is a cryptic and complex language, so the author teaches in a stepwise manner, he hides the complexity by introducing his private libraries and data abstractions. So the readers implement the functionality of C, which is independent from the complexity of C; once the readers have enough grasp at C, they may move on to explore the complexity of C.

The author have done these with good intention because data types in ANSI C are limited in size, for example, the data type int is different from our perception of integer indaily life. The address operator & may be confusing as well.

How did I use the book? I rewrited all the examples presented in book without his private libaries. I did the exercises in the book without his private libraries as well. Instead of copying all his codes and getting them work, I tried to make errors: for example, in the simple hello world program, omitted the preprocessor operator #, then read the error messages. I also tried to improve the efficiency of my algorithm.

This maybe a good introductory book for people who have experience in programming in languages other than C since the syntax of C may confuse them, but owning it is not recommended. ... Read more

Yout guys know this is the textbook for Java course at stanford right?
The problem of this book is it was designed for the course in Standford university. So it's not a "general" Java book for everyone.

I sont know how I am supposed to review this if I never got the product. I orders and was chargedbut they later told me they sisnt actually have the product. They returned my money though and everything so I wasn't unhappy.

great approach to learning how to program
I just finished taking a college course that uses The Art & Science of Java. This book takes a graphical approach to learning how to program. With a graphical approach the student can better understand how object oriented programming works. I taught myself java a few years ago, from a book that taught me how to make programs that output to the command prompt. I never understood object oriented programming until now.

Purchased for school
This book was required for my course in Java programming. Great book, I highly recommend this for beginners of Java.

It takes a little elbow grease for the amateur to figure out how to link in libraries etc... but once this is done- you can delve into some meaningful [useful] programing examples early on.My plug for this book is as much for the corresponding class videos and handouts as it is for the book- which when combined together offer a great set of tools for learning computer programing and java.Once through the book and class materials [videos and homework] the student should be able to graduate on to more advanced java books without trouble.

Programming Abstractions in C / review
haven't gone through all the material yet- but have browsed through the book and related syllabus.

For starters- this is a book that was [and may still be] used at Stanford.You can even get course videos and handouts etc... from Stanford Engineering Everywhere web site-

This book is for the CS106B class- and at a quick glance- it looks like there are a set of libraries that are used [similar to the intro CS106a java class] that provide the amateur student with a framework to make simple gui programs- stuff that looks more intuitive than the traditional intro CS class while delving into some pretty meaty topics.

The main reason to get this book is because the corresponding lectures are available online from a respected university along with applicable lecture notes and assignments.

Expected better
I was really disappointed by the purchased item. I expected a regularly printed book and I got something that looked like a photocopied version of the original. Quality if paper is marginal, designs are in black and white instead of the very nice green-blue of the introductory book by the same author.

In any case, Amazon's website should reflect the quality of the interior, and clearly state what you buy for your money: $91.20 is way too much for what I got (i.e., not a real book). I really need the book, otherwise I would have returned it.

Precise, yet gentle intro to Abstract Data Types (ADT)
This is the best book I can recommend on abstract data types to beginners and refreshers alike. Written from somewhat academic perspective, it does a great job in instilling the concepts of abstraction and encapsulation. These are the basic principles behind Object Oriented programming. The author uses C, its a remarkable text on how to write "Object Oriented" like programs in C, but without relying on OO features of C++. Unless you know the underlying principles as explained in this book, it is just as "easy" to write bad OO programs in C++ as it is in C. Personally, I found the chapter on recursion the best. Explanations on recursion are simply the best I have yet seen. Now, I can do magic myself with recursion! Great job. I wish I could sit in his class. Is he planning to write more books for us ordinary mortals?

Great book! The "SICP of C ?"
Haven't worked through the whole book yet, but I will say that I have other C or imperative-paradigm data structures book.
The topics are very meaningful: thorough emphasis on recursion (usually misunderstood by C programmers), backtracking (in games - yes, fun!), graphs, trees, that is, the standard gammut of topics, but all written amidst a very interesting text that makes a person who loves programming to never let the book down, because of all the /usefull/ stuff that's in it. For instance, he uses an editor as the common thread to discuss buffers, then implents it using arrays, stack, and linked lists. You end up having a /practical/ introduction to those issues and the implications therein. This is not "practical" in the sense that it's "dumb". This is "real" as in "real GOOD, USEFUL, WELL WRITTEN, WELL DESIGNED" code. C hacking as it should be done.
The code is written in crystal clear style (which is amazing for a C book), the author is keen on abstraction and library reuse. The excercises are great, and not dumb and mechanic.
There isn't any book like this one for C out of the several that I've seen.
If you want to learn C, after you learn the basics, this is THE book. I guess the other reviewer is right when he says that this must be the "SICP for C." And if you know anything about programming, you know that this is a big compliment.
The author is an Applied Mathematics graduate from Harvard and a professor at Stanford.

8th in the Bourne Series
This book is the 8th in the Bourne Series.I have not read the others, but I did see the first 3 movies.The book was about Jason Bourne, a spy formerly with an organization but now on his own, coming to terms with the death of someone he was close with and the life he lives. The secret organization he is trying to unravel adds many twists to the book, as he tries to get to the bottom of things. This is where most of the action occurs.

The prologue was odd, because it has sound effects. I was not expecting it, and don't feel it added to the book at all. It was also strange to hear the woman's voices being done by a man ingratiating a woman- poorly. I also found it distracting. I did like that they used music at suspenseful times.The ending was good, it tied everything up well. Even though the book could be tedious at times, I think it was a good read. I want to read book #7 now, and find out more about these characters.

Poor Story line
This book is so tedious to read it's rediculous! There seems to be 5 different story lines and non of them make any sense. Jason Bourne has been religated to a bit part in a story that he plays no major role in. Unlike Ludlum's Bourne, this one is boring, uninteresting and just plain lame. Time to letthe carrier die and go quitely into the past.

And I read Van Lustbader's first book, continuing the Bourne series.
But "The Bourne Objective" is flat-out awful.
Poorly written, badly edited.
Impossible to follow.

Bourne Saction Review
I am totally enjoying reading the entire Bourne series and am so impressed with Van Lustbader's ability to replicate Ludlum's style, intensity, vivid language and mulitlayered visual descriptions.
And, obviously, the remarkably fast-paced, rapidly-changing storyline moves me through the pages at a rate I never thought I'd be reading! When these are described as "page-turners" it's a total understatement!

Bourne Sanction
Eric Van Lustbader keeps the reader on the edge of his seat just like Robert Ludlum did.Great read for anyone that is a fan of the series.

OK book, but a bit too convoluted.Too many characterd that seemed "dredged" up and difficult to keep track of.

Ludlum would be ashamed
Van Lustbader did a terrible job writing this book.Setting up the drama, creating the fight scenes, establishing characters are all things that Ludlum would be embarrassed of.This will be the last Bourne book I read as long as Van Lustbader continues to write.Do yourself a favor and read the first 50 pages and the last 25, everything in the middle was terrible.

A worthy distraction from reality even if its not going to win any prizes
You'll read many reviews of disappointed readers, largely Ludlum fans.However, this is an ok read.On the one hand its not vintage Ludlum - so the plot structure and detail is less substantive.Also, it lacks Ludlum's vocabulary and grammatical complexity.

However, Eric Van Lustbader is a gifted writer in that he's able to vividly conjure worlds for the reader that before reading may have no previous notion of. The places, the characters, the weather and timing of various things, serves to bring the reader on a voyage with the characters.

Of course, the reader must be forgiving, especially if he or she has experience in politics and how agencies work with one another.But if you can accept the stereotypes and simply put yourself into the picture as a casual observer the story can become compelling for you.I can imagine how challenging a read it would be for someone who demands reality in their super spy novels - but then they really wouldn't be fun to read.

I think you'll enjoy this novel if 1) you have a sense of humor, and can laugh off an impossible scenario or two 2) allow yourself to be taken on the journey.

Lastly, this is not a novel to be critical of.The Bourne Series is grown into mass popularity, and as such will be given a 7th grade readability quotient;future plots (including this one) will be aimed at middle American sensibilities.The result is fast food versus the classic Ludlum spy novel.

My first Bourne book
I am not a fan of movies where cars and people get blown up all the time. So I approached this audiobook in some tredidation, and almost abandoned it after the first chapter with its Balinese holy man. (I am Christian).But I am glad I persevered, and amazed by the many negative reviews by others. There's frantic action and activity throughout, augmented by sound effects at peak moments (a gimmick I haven't encountered before). Much to deplore here in man's inhumanity described in gory detail.However, it is saved by a strong and intricate storyline which is just believable and reminiscent of some current international trends (eg the threat from Iran).The characters are well drawn with very human emotions under stress - but this reader avoided listening to the book on my way to meet clients or to speak in public, since it could dampen my mood.

Great way to survive the "joys" of air travel ...
I'm not a literary critic so I'm not going to deeply analyze the plot or compare Lustbader to Ludlum.However, having read ALL of the Bourne series from the original 3 written by Ludlum to the additional 5 I think it is now by Lustbader it is all good fun.If you like the Bourne character, the genre, and the general storyline then you will like all of them.I read for entertainment and for something to help me escape reality when I am frequently stuck in "cattle class" on a US air carrier, on a plane that is loaded to the gills, surrounded by screaming kids, and a beer will cost me $6.Cracking good read all, great for escaping air travel hell or enjoying a day at the beach.

I bought this book, excited to read another Bourne book.I was extremely disappointed.The plot is so fragmented and exaggerated as to be hard to enjoy.The characters are a strange collection, and fit together awkwardly.Bourne is hardly a minor character in the book, and is a mix of unbelievable and pitiful.
I am a doctor, and tend to notice the medical and physical aspects of the injuries, fights, treatments, etc... I don't expect most books to be medically accurate, but most are close enough to not be detrimental to the plot.This book contains such absurd events that one would think that the author got his entire biological and scientific knowledge from comic books and a few episodes of ER and CSI.
Overall this is a very poorly written book.I can't believe the editor let it through. ... Read more

Bourne Betrayal Review
As I said about "Sanction," this series never disappoints, quite the contrary. It's always fast-paced, quickly-changing and twisting plot and characters keep me enthralled from first page to last. I'm reading faster than ever before and finishing 500-600 page books in less than 2 weeks -- never-before have I done this (and repeatedly with the other books in the series also).
I'm a total fan!

Not what it sounds like!!!

This CD was not interesting. We were disappointed in the Sound. It was hard to follow.

Mindless Pulp
As a beach read to shut off your mind and suspend reality, this book is ok.It does not come close to living up to the intricacies and interest of Robert Ludlum's Borne series, however.I'm disappointed that (especially with several very successful films) Ludlum's heirs felt the need to squeeze out more money.

If you've already read Ludlum's Borne books and know you're going to be taking a step down, there is some enjoyment to revisit the character.Just know going in that you're unlikely to think it stacks up.

The Bourne Betrayal
This was a good book although there was a point about one quarter of the way through when I came very close to stopping.Jason Bourne's friend Martin Lindros is taken hostage by terrorists led by the brothers Abu Ghazi Nadir al-Jamuh bin Hamid bin Ashef al Wahhib and Jamil bin Hamid bin Ashef al Wahhib.Jason Bourne is given the assignment to find him.The terrorists have a doctor that removes the retina from Martin Lindros' right eye and gives it to Jamil; but, the way the author words it, that the doctor removes Martin's right eye, I said impossible.I kept reading because I didn't have any other book to read between calls and the author finally clarified what he meant.The book was good - a little like Mission:Impossible; but, I always liked Mission:Impossible.

I use my copy as a doorstop
My wife and I live in Florida, so we leave the windows open a lot. But sometimes the wind through the house makes the doors close, and that gets annoying. The answer? A copy of Lustbader's Bourne Betrayal to hold the door open!
Ludlum would cry if he could see what his beloved character has been whittled down to. I wondered at first why Matt Damon refused to do any more Bourne movies, and Lustbader is the reason. He literally hacked the Bourne down to Mr. Rogers in comparison. And that's all I'm going to say on the matter. ... Read more

Excellent bed-side refferance
If you are looking for a bed-side book to guide you through most of the ED procedures, then this is the book.

The New Standard in EM Procedures
This book is extremely detailed and has great illustrations.I compared this book for many hours to Roberts & Hedges (R&H) 4th ed and this book blows it away.The entire procedure is fully explained (as in both books), but this book shows you numerous different locations and ways of getting the same procedure done.This seems to lack in R&H.Also, the illustrations are great.R&H uses mainly black and white photos from the 1970's/80's where the person was not even using gloves and there is a footnote in every picture to use gloves.I think R&H needs to use new updated pictures if they want to even compete with this book.The increased use of color, great illustrations with key landmarks, numerous charts, and ease of explanation make this book essential in any emergency physician's library. ... Purchase of "America's Bubble Economy"
The book is great but it arrived with a great deal of Hi Liter through out the text.Please don't Hi Lite books that you may sell to another person as it is quite distracting and may not be at all what another person would choose to Hi Lite.

Found it very informative and full ofsensible ideas. Mark Twain said " there are three kindsof lies which arelies, damned lies and statistics". I think this book exposed the statistics part.I had a general ideaof the situation but wish I had read the book when it was first published.

Worth reading!
This book is well worth reading! Pretty much sums up what will happen in the near future.I do think that it
is a bit optomistic, though, as I believe times will be rougher than this book lets on. Throw in some natural
disasters to go along with the financial upheaval and you'll have a whole different can of beans.

For years I've wondered why no one predicted the bubbles in our economy and why no one is ringing the alarm bell about our nations deficit and debt; now I know someone did and is.

The authors are economists, not professional alarmists or corporate / government cheerleaders. Their observations and recommendations are sagely.

You will definitely want to read their follow-up tomb: Aftershock.

This book is way out of date.
Maybe this book was prescient in 2006 but I felt it was a waste of my time in 2010.Buy gold and Euros as protection from US debt monetization and jump off those bubbles before they pop.I got it.Noting that the Euro is down from 1.50 to 1.30 I went to the the authors' website, referred to repeatedly in the book, for a strategy update.Unfortunately, the last entry there is from 2008.Don't waste your time. ... Not What I Expected - But Good Analogies
This book was recommended by a friend who uses 'Market Profile' in his trading. I was disappointed that the book appears to be a photocopy of a PDF document, with a cover. The content is interesting, and is presented in an understandable way, but as the text is an image copy, it is lighter in some places and darker in others. The charts are not on the same page or facing page as the description (sometimes needing to flip 1-2 pages to find the chart the author is talking about). The author creates names for conditions and traders, ex. 'Other Timeframe Traders' = Traders holding positions overnight.The analogies are well written, which lend to a greater understanding of the concepts taught. This book is not about trading strategies or trading methods, but rather about how to determine the price area where most of the trades on a particular issue are occurring during the trading day.

Excellent intro into Market Profile
This book is the best for those that want to familiarize themselves with Market Profile.

It is a good explaination of market profile but don't expect to learn to trade from the book. You will still need to take a course from a market profile expert.

Changes the way you look at markets
This was my first introduction to Market Profile and it's changed the way I look at markets. Understanding the purpose of markets and being able to gauge the strength and weakness of buyers and sellers helps give you a clear market bias. In my opinion, without the right bias all entry techniques are virtually worthless.

Mind Over Markets is mostly a "What" book, where as an MP book like Markets And Market Logic is a "Why" book. Both are very important, but it wasn't until I read the 2nd that I really understood the concepts in the 1st. Creating Stories: The Angst of Midlife Crisis
For those who have followed the meteoric career of Eric Fischl (born 1948) this particular monograph of his paintings dating back to 2004/2005 should come as no surprise. His works have always gone where others fear to tread - voyeurism in children ('Bad Boy'), painting situations that deal with people fulfilling the expected behavior while masking their own personal variations of what is considered normal, etc - and so this exploration of desire and sexuality in the middle-aged group of society should feel as comfortable and as disturbing as the viewer feels the comfort zone within himself.

This monograph is the result of a project, named 'The Krefeld Project', which was Eric Fischl's setting for the preparation of a new look at encounters. He rented an empty house, brought in several models, and for a few days observed and photographed them in situations both of his own staging and interactions among the models that fell into the realm of reality, and took some 2000 photographs that would be the fodder for the series of twelve large paintings depicting liaisons or trysts that older people of his generation (Fischl was 57 when he painted this series) might explore.

The results are paintings that share several bedroom scenes of couples in the act of physical contact, the act of getting undressed or getting dressed before and after the service, and scenes in the bathroom, and repairing the evidence of their probable midday assignation. There is not a lot of passion as we expect it here, more a sense of men and women who know what they are about, but are trying to infuse their boring lives with a bit of drama. If there is an overall sense of ennui or even sadness to these stories, then Fischl just may be suggesting that time alters the way we couple, even for illicit affairs. That is not to say these paintings are not rich in feeling: anyone approaching or in or past middle age and the emotional resignation to aging can identify viscerally with these stories. And Fischl's extraordinary sense of illumination, of light coming from a source that refuses to be manipulated by erasing such partial blockades as venetian blind or shutters, is still as beautiful and atmospheric as in all of his major works. The paintings can be isolated - the Krefeld Project does not have to be seen in its entirety to be fully appreciated. The best but not the first single volume history of Christianity in India
This is a comprehensive, single-volume history of Christianity in India, which takes into account the beginnings of Christianity and covers its present state. The history of Christian communities is presented as "Indocentric," where Christianity is seen as indigenous and contextual to the various cultures of India. However, the author's claim that such a task has not been accomplished before, in a single volume, needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. The very first volume on Indian Christianity by C. B. Firth, which was written in the 1960s, is still one of the most popular single-volume histories of the growth of Christianity in India in spite of its historiography being far from perfect. The major strength of Frykenburg's work is that it is concerned about Indian Christians, their indigenous cultures, communities, and institutions rather than with the foreign missionary enterprise in India. However, since Frykenburg worked mostly in South India, he devotes a major portion of this volume to South Indian Christianity. As far as the history of Christianity in North India is concerned, I find this volume disappointing. Christianity in North India is referred to, in a passing manner, in less than two pages (pp 239-240, out of about 500 pages of the text), which deals only about the mass movements in the 19th century. The subject then comes up only in the Conclusion and Epilogue sections, that too, referring only to the current mass movement of Dalits in Uttar Pradesh. Even this section is based on unconfirmed/unreliable facts and figures.
In contemporary India, perhaps the largest national federation of indigenous missionary organizations is India Missions Association (IMA). The author writes it as "Indian Missionary Association!" (p 464). In fact, there is no such organization in India. So much for the scholarly treatment of current Indian Christianity, not to mention the misspelt names of Indian theologians/Christians. I wish the editors had referred the draft to some Indian Christians about whom this book is about, before going to the press. Nevertheless, this volume is a significant contribution to the history of Christianity in India and will remain a great source for years to come for anyone interested in the Indian church.

Very Interesting
I found this very interesting. He admitted to the many mistakes he
made that helped bury WCW. That is one thing wrestling autobiographies don't usually say. It was nice to find out that the
only reason they got rid of Brian Pillman was because they had taken
his gimmick as far as they could have taken it. He also said that
he didn't steal the ECW talent, they came over to WCW because they
needed a regular paycheck. People like Benoit, Guerrero, Malenko,
Saturn, Awesome and others needed the money. It was nice to hear
him say that he and Austin had forgiven each other for the way SA
was fired. All in All, a very interesting read for any wrestling fan
who wants to get the truth from the Horses mouth.

I AM NOT A BIG ERIC BISCHOFF FAN BUT HIS BOOK IS WELL WORTH READING. I DID NOT WANT TO PUT IT DOWN AND ENDED UP FINISHING IT IN 3 DAYS. HE REHASHES HIS DAYS IN THE NWA, AWA, WCW AND FINALLY WWE. FOR ME THE MOST INTERESTING PART WAS CONCERNING THE BATTLE BETWEEN NITO AND RAW FOR MORE THAN A FEW YEARS THIS WAS A CLASH OF THE TITANS. ERIC TELLS OF THE RISE TO THE TOP AND HOW IT WAS ACHIEVED. THEN THE PARADOX AS NITRO FELL FROM GRACE DUE TO BEING STAGNENT, ADDING ANOTHER SHOW DURING THE WEEK, BUDGET CUTS AND A CHANGE OVER WHEN AOL AND TIME WARNER TOOK OVER. NOW THIS ERIC'S VIEW OF WHAT WENT DOWN. I HAVE READ MANY OTHER REASONS AND OPINIONS WHY WCW FOLDED AND ALL OF THEM CONTRIBUTED TO IT'S DEATH. IF YOU WERE A WRESTLING FAN DURING THE 1990'S AND STILL ARE TODAY THEN THIS A GREAT READ FOR THE YOUNGER FANS ALONG WITH THE OLDER FANS WHO HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING FOR A FEW DECADES. WORTH IT.

Great book
This was a very insightful book on Bischoff, a definite must read if your looking for something to read on the monday night wars and the rise and fall of wcw and his career.

The Inside Story
This was one of the best books I've read in a long time but that may be because I watched the "Monday Night Ratings Battle" between WWE and WCW. The best part of the book is that Bischoff really lets you see his personality and who he is throughout the book. You get the feeling he is writing this with no holds barred and letting you into the perspective he has on the whole business. He even clears up (from his point of view) controversial issues such as the firing of Steve Austin from WCW which has been told a lot of different ways throughout the years. He also talks of some of the guys he respects, who he's had problems with, and how him and Vince got together and worked together for those few years after WCW we bought out. I really liked how just about every chapter was interesting fora wrestling fan. The book is written with a great flow and is what I call and easy read. It's not the controversial read it claims to be, it's more of an honest record of what actually happened.recommend this to any wrestling fan who knows the story of WWE/WCW and wants the details from someone who was right in the middle of it. ... Decent book
I liked this textbook, it wasn't a difficult read by any means, I just wish they'd maybe split it up into two textbooks.It's 60 chapters, and as a biology student that has to lug this thing back and forth to classes every week, it's incredibly HEAVY.

Robert Ballards Lusitania
I found this book to be in BRAND NEW condition. The price paid for the book was outstanding. The shipping charges were very reasonable. The book was received in suprisingly quick time. I've not yet had time to really get into the book, but I have scanned it. It will definitely be a great read. I highly recommend this seller to other buyers.

Another outstanding record of a famous ship.
Of course, Dr Robert Ballard will forever remain the man who found the Titanic, but in this book he also provides the reader with an extremely well documented account of the loss of the Lusitania.

Mysteries are mysteries and whilst there are those experts which insist such and such happened, there will also be those who assert the opposite. I shouldn't say this I know, but it the way in which Bob Ballard takes such a thorough approach to his subject, it leaves one feeling that the only book you need to read on the entire subject of the loss of the Lusitania is this one.

Exploring the Lusitania - yet another four-funnelled passenger liner built before WW1, is a large coffee-table book approx. A4 size. Just a glance at the pictures throughout the richly illustrated pages (227 altogether) reveals the extent of the research to which the author has gone on behalf of the reader. There are many historic pictures of the ship itself - including when she was no more than a keel. Others include paintings of the day, newspaper cuttings and postcards showing internal and external views. Then there are the photographs of the tragedy itself and the effect it had upon the people of Ireland. Photographs of seemingly unimportant people at the booking office and individuals such as the Captain. Dr Ballard has been equally thorough when it comes to detailing the U-Boat which sank the Lusitania and we are treated to almost the same level of coverage of vessel and individuals and their trade of war.

Once again, however, the author has put together the most outstanding collection of artwork created by Ken Marschall. From thousands of photographic images taken from the wreckage itself, Bob Ballard created a complete montage (i.e. a big photograph made up of thousands of little photographs) of the various sections of the wreck so that Mr Marschall was able to provide us with the most accurate paintings of various sections and even the entire wreck. The one painting I had to look at again and again was the painting of the sinking across pages 96/97. For a moment there I thought the world's greatest photographer had been on hand to capture the event.

I congratulate Dr Ballard on another excellent and professional job of work. Another outstanding book and yet again 5 stars are not enough.

Great Book!
I would say that this must be one of the better books around for Eric Fischl. Before I bought this book I knew very little about this artist. I was surprised at the amount of work packed into this book, what a great deal. I also found out in this book that the art owner/enthusiast Steve Martin whose name appears on many works by many other artists I've seen is indeed the same person, funny.

An Artist of Social Comment, A Master of Light
Eric Fischl is honored in this beautifully designed and produced monograph that includes his early works from the 1970s to his current paintings, drawings and sculpture.The quality of the publication is first rate on every level - the color reproductions are outstanding, the essays by Arthur C. Danto and commentaries by Robert Enright and Steve Martin are knowledgeable and readable, and the images throughout the book benefit from frequent passages of thoughts by Fischl himself.

What makes Fischl such an interesting artist and one who has been able to sustain his popularity with the public for four decades is his fascination with figurative painting as a means of making biting social comments and stirring controversy: his works never fail to involve the viewer in far more than a passing interest.Human relationships are explored from the forbidden to the lonely isolation that is often present in his painted tales.Fischl's canvases are large and command presence in galleries, museums, and homes.Though by his own admission he 'does not draw well', it is often in his preparatory sketches that he allow us to watch his message develop, at time completely changing from his original thought.

For many, the sculptures of Fischl will be a surprise, though a welcome one.His sense of human body rhythms catches us unaware, much the way his paintings often include jolting surprises.If Fischl's paintings vary in quality as far as technique is concerned, one aspect remains constant: Fischl's understanding of light and shadow is brilliant and even the more commonplace of his works retain this ability to make sun and shadowa major player in each canvas.
