1/11/01 I borrowed the book,"Monsters" from the Free Library of Philadelphia several years ago. It was authored by Vincent Price & his son.The contents of the book showing many examples of the victors and the vanquished, keep the theme of the need of those who've battledthroughout history, claiming to have been on the defensive vs the offensive since Society ,generally speaking, does not approve of loss of lives and the other expenses of war being done due to the pompousness of its leaders.abj 1/11/01 ... Self-serving griping.
I was highly, highly, highly disappointed in this story.From the title, I had expected a commentary on the state of sports today, which I personally find troubling with doping scandals and skyrocketing player salaries and ticket prices.Instead, I found a poorly organized set of complaints from two former employees of Eddie DeBartolo who were charged with running his racetrack.Long on admiration for each other, the two are quick to paint an evil picture of DeBartolo at every turn, but fail show us his side of the issue.It was incredibly difficult to read - it is a 'dual autobiography', which switches off between each author, and as readers we are supposed to be able to tell who is writing by an asterisk placed or not placed at the beginning of each chapter.

While I thought I was getting a book that was tackling some of the tougher issues in sports, I got an unprofessional set of rambling complaints and views on the world from two mistreated employees.Their whining and one-sided version of the story actually makes them look worse than their boss, in my opinion.I generally keep books that I have finished on my bookshelf until I give them away, but his one I was so disgusted with that I actually threw it away because I don't believe it was worth the paper it was written on.

I know this sounds particularly harsh, but it angers me that a top-10 business school professor actually assigned me this pathetic excuse for acommentary on sports business.What a waste of time. ... Read more

Not worth the money
I am an avid reader and have managed to get through many mediocer books in my time but I couldn't get beyond the first chapter of this one. The list of problems I had with this book is too long to type out here but if you're looking to spend the money I'd suggest doing it elsewhere.

An Absolute Delight
In contrast to Roger Moore's BBC television version, and in even sharper contrast to the Val Kilmer complete overhaul of "The Saint," this small collection of the Old Time Radio version of "The Saint" staring Vincent Price is wonderful and refreshing.

Vincent Price had such a wonderful vocal quality that added to the mystery and danger of Simon Templar. The episodes provide a wonderful gambit of The Saints escapades. The quality is wonderful.

I would highly recommend this collection to any library, and wish they would make more of the original "The Saint" radio shows avaiable. ... Read more
