5-0 out of 5 stars A very HELPFUL book!
I am a network administrator here in our university (U of Chicago). Most of the time when students asked me for help this is the first book I would consult, it gives the technical and the psychology of hands on computing ina Microsoft environment. All I can say is this book is a must forinstructors and administrators who are responsible for novices!

3-0 out of 5 stars Another typical Microsoft product
It seemed that Microsoft Press needed to fill many pages before publishing this book. It does do what it says, include info on how to get people into a help desk and what can be expected. It trains and gives ideas to themanagers and I especially liked their grid on staffing the help desk andall the things to take into consideration.

Still, it lacked info, likewhat were the best ways to create a knowledge base for the help desk, itjust kept mentioning that it was important and left it at that. And thewebsites as reference at the back of the book are not that hot. The CDscould be better also.

So in other words, it is a typical Microsoftproduct, something with great potential that does not live up toexpectations but is expected to sell wonderfully because it has theMicrosoft logo over it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price
For the price of the book I was expecting some great tips and wisdom on help desk and support.Instead, the book only offered surface level information.Almost the last half of the book is a Resource Directory -Most, if not all, of this information can be found in simple web searches. To add insult to injury, the CD does not offer any usable templates orchecklists.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book to read if you are creating a help desk.
Whether you are creating a technical help desk, customer service operation or enterprise effort, the Microsoft Sourcebook is the guide to follow.Detailed approaches and examples are given for all aspects of creating andmanaging a help desk operation.Helpful topics include ticket management, staff projections, and working with expert tier two teams. Many help desksuse thejob descriptions from the book when posting positions.A CD forthe sample forms is very helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very nice and easy to use.
A real cool book we have made almost all the stuff in the book it is fun to read and easy to make.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book taught me how to make cornbread.
Despite considering myself a fairly competent cook, I had never been able to master cornbread. I had always been content to leave the work to Jiffy, until I happened upon the recipe in this book, thinking to myself "this just sounds too easy to mess up." Sure enough, it was a success, and therefore worthy of my five stars. Most of the other recipes sound pretty good, too, though the silly recipe for scrapple clearly proves the author has never been to the Delaware Valley.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun!
Sure you could get these recipes off the net - but for those that love books - the graphics add quite a bit of fun!Great for a housewarming present (in combo with some of the other "Retro-" books from this series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Retro Breakfast: Memorable Meals Morning, Noon, or Night
This a is great and fun recipe book if you like breakfast food, however if you love retro and breakfast you will love it, I do.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's the most important book of the day
As easy a target as the classic morning meals in this book can be, what I enjoyed most about "Retro Breakfast" is that the recipes were presented without much comment on the editors' part. So many books of this sort (James Lileks' "Gallery of Regrettable Food" or "Interior Desecrations," notably) are larded to the point of bursting with ironic asides, arch giggles, and conspiratorial winks to the reader to acknowledge that we sure are cooler *now* than those people were back *then.*

Mercifully, here we just got a bunch of old-timey (like, 1950s-70s) recipes, mixed in with the "Retro..." series' signature period artwork, fonts, and colorful presentation. We can add our own hipster swagger if we want while we offer up some of "Mother's Cinnamon Flop" (p. 94) or "Sunday Mornin' Hotcakes" (p. 114). But even if we don't, we'll still wind up with what on the whole look like some pretty appetizing starts to the day.

The phrase "look like" does remind me, though, of one disappointing fact: the illustrations that accompany given recipes don't always seem to be illustrations *of* the given recipe. It's hard to tell sometimes if we're looking at the actual dish, or just something similar from the archive.

Some of us were fortunate enough to have enjoyed breakfasts like this with our Saturday morning cartoons, back in the good old days, and it's a nice stroll through our memories to have them available to us again. And even if we never get around to making any of these things, the book itself is a great retro reference to have around. ... Read more

Product Description
These agricultural census records name only the head of the household; however, they do yield unique information about how people lived. Often, individuals who were missed on the regular U.S. census will appear on the agricultural census. Six of the agricultural census's original forty-eight columns are transcribed here: name of owner, improved acreage, unimproved acreage, cash value of farm, value of farm implements and machinery, and value of livestock. This volume covers the counties of: Perry, Pickens, Pike, Randolph, Russell, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Washington, Wilcox, and Winston. A surname index augments the records. ... Read more

From the author: The research community has criticized Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) because the extant literature indicates a lack of evidence that the elementary school program prevents drug use. Yet D.A.R.E. continues to be the most widely implemented drug use prevention program in the United States and has considerable community support. To date, the junior high D.A.R.E. program has not been evaluated. The Minnesota DARE PLUS Project is a randomized trial of 24 schools and communities. During 1999-2001, students in eight schools will receive the junior high D.A.R.E. curriculum in 7th grade; eight schools also will receive the curriculum as well as additional parent involvement, peer leadership, and community components in the 7th and 8th grades; and eight schools will serve as controls. This article describes the background and conceptualization, the curriculum and additional intervention components, and the evaluation methods of the DARE PLUS Project.
