5-0 out of 5 stars Wow.
An absolutely excellent bunch of photographs never before seen in any other book about the Last Imperial Family; they're on their yacht, at the beloved palace Livadia, at the front... everywhere.Quite a few dates are off and there are some misidentifications with Nicholas and Alexandra's daughters (rather typical, sadly enough), but it's still excellent.I recommend this to ANYONE interested in the Romanovs, even slightly. It even throws in Grabbe's views on Nicholas, Alexandra and their five children. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a great gift for any kid
i discovered this book at a museum bookstore and gave it to my nephew, who is 7. i thought it might be too old for him, but he loved it. in fact, he took the book with him everywhere until he had colored it all in. now he carries it around and shows it to
everyone and tells them the story - he is a little art history teacher now. needless to say, his mother and i ordered several copies apiece to give as christmas presents. They arrived quickly.
i can't wait for the next one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Coloring Book with Something More!
Finally a coloring book that has something more to offer! This ingenious book is great for kids who want to learn more about art ... and for parents who want to teach them.Kids learn about Van Gogh and Gauguin effortlessly by reading the text and through coloring their own pictures. The book looks like so much fun, I was tempted to start coloring myself. Can't wait for the next one in the series!

5-0 out of 5 stars Art History for Tots
My 7-year-old was amazed by the colors at the Van Gogh show at the MFA in Boston last fall, but it was hard to find something appropriate to encourage him. This was perfect!

5-0 out of 5 stars For Once the Times Got it Right
I bought this book for my 9 year old son after seeing it mentioned in the New York Times. What a hoot! A coloring book about the friendship of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gaugin. My kid has already colored in all the pictures in a way which shows the utter lack of imagination of these so-called creative artists. Now he wants me to get him another copy. And you know what? I probably will. This book is a lot of fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Find
I'm tired of buying art "activity books" that kids don't use.But this one was worth every penny. My daughter (6) didn't stop carrying it around until she had colored in every painting. The story is good too, I learned a few things myself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Compilation of Poetry and Art
Perhaps the best description of this incredible collection of artwork and poetry was given by the compilers and authors, John and Alexandra Balouziyeh, in their preface:

"We selected the poems that have most brilliantlyexpressed love as the universal longing of the human soul, as the bond between God and man, between man and woman, and between friends who share the joys and the sorrows of one another as though they were each one's own."

The compilation eschews the historical provincialism that is a common error of modern thought by beginning with ancient Hebrew writings on love and ancient authors such as Virgil. As it treats the theme of love (certainly one of the most universal in human history), it works through poets from the Middle Ages and Renaissance and into the contemporary period. The start of each poem is punctuated by famous pieces of artwork that add to the visual beauty of the volume, and often speak as much of love as do the accompanying poems.

Whether for a lover, or for a friend who is a lover of poetry, this book is an excellent gift. I have enjoyed my copy thoroughly, and highly recommend it to anyone who has ever appreciated poetry, or searched for the words to express their love. ... Read more

Product Description
The relationship between sculpture and pedestal is at the intersection of a number of art-historical disciplines, ranging from the history of design, architecture, and urbanism to museum studies, yet because of its supporting role it has remained a largely neglected and unstudied field. This book includes essays ranging from sixteenth-century Venice to twenty-first-century London that provide a fascinating variety of approaches to the issue. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Booo
BOOO! This is supposed to be a great literary work. A masterpiece. THE great American Novel! I barely made it through with my sanity intact.

Scarlet really let me down as a character. I don't know why but I thought she wouldn't be such a ninny. Plus I don't mind reading a long book as long as all the pieces are taking me somewhere. This book seemed to have so much filler.

Perhaps I had such high hopes for it. I really enjoyed the movie, and I never find books that are worse than movies...but in this one I did.

It really makes me wonder what the requirements are for a novel to become "GREAT"

2-0 out of 5 stars Weak...weak...weak
I am very glad that Rhett and Scarlett got back together...face it, we all knew we would.Skip many chapter...read the first and the last. You will be very glad you did

3-0 out of 5 stars Satisfaction of an ending
I first read "Scarlett" many years ago when it first came out. At the time I was about 13 years old, and I did not grasp the full meaning of "Gone With the Wind". I saw it strictly as a romance, and so it was fairly easy to see "Scarlett" as a continuation of that romance. I didn't however ever think "Scarlett" was as well written as "GWTW". I recently reread "GWTW" and decided to give "Scarlett" another read as I absolutely hate the ending of "GWTW". As an adult reading "Scarlett" I made a few observations:
(1) It is not as well written as "GWTW" there is no doubt about it. Having said that it is not a bad book in its own right. I didn't dislike reading it, and I do think that the author did a fairly decent job transforming Scarlett's character. She made her grow up in a somewhat believable way.
(2) The first half of the book is fairly in keeping with "GWTW", but to me, the second half and the whole going to live in Ireland thing is a little strange. However, in the end I think it worked out okay.
(3) Rhett's character was kept pretty much true to the original, except for a few instances. Note there was a scene where he cooked breakfast and was acting fairly silly. Rhett was/is a lot of things: handsome, cynical, sarcastic, and even romantic, but he was never silly.

This book is certainly not the literary masterpiece that its predecessor was, however if you're looking for a somewhat satisfying end to Scarlett and Rhett's saga then this book should satisfy that.

3-0 out of 5 stars 832 pages was just too much
I just finished reading this book last night. The first 425 pages were pretty good. They take place in Atlanta, Charleston and Savannah with Scarlett and the standard GWTW characters and some new faces. The Rhett/Scarlett dynamic was great. I think the author did a good job keeping true to Scarlett and Rhett's true characters and there are some great scenes with great lines! Having said that, pages 425 to around 775 are a true waste of time. This is the part where Scarlett goes to Ireland. They only good parts are when Rhett shows up. I don't regret reading the book because it renewed by love for Scarlett and Rhett but I wish it would have been more focused on Rhett and Scarlett and not Ireland.

5-0 out of 5 stars SCARLETT

I was exremely pleased to get the book in record time and in excellent condition as advertised. Thank you. Margot lazarony ... Read more
