so much better than i expected it to be
i actually bought the book by mistake whilst looking to buy the dvd collection spain on the road . what a mistake to make .Its brilliant.

Good Recipes, Recommended Restaurants, and a Travelogue of Spanish Cuisine.
"Spain: A Culinary Road Trip" is the companion book to the 2008 PBS series "Spain: On the Road Again", in whichchef and restaurateur Mario Batali, New York Times food critic Mark Bittman, actress Gwyneth Paltrow, and the multilingual Catalan actress Claudia Bassols criss-crossed Spain in search of great cuisine and sight-seeing. Mario Batali was the impetus behind that project, and he is the author of this book, which is a cross between a cookbook, a travelogue, and ad for Spanish tourism. There are 13 chapters, each corresponding to an episode of the television series and exploring a different city or region, beginning and ending in Madrid.

About 70 recipes are included. Most are simple, with only a handful of ingredients. This isn't a bad thing, as these dishes are inviting, relatively easy to prepare, and preserve the freshness and lively flavors of their primarily ingredients. Some cooks might have preferred to have a smattering of more complex recipes mixed in, however. There are a lot of seafood recipes, some vegetarian, and some meat. Dessert recipes are scarce. And Batali couldn't resist including a few dishes that are not for the squeamish (and not for vegetarians or pescetarian), like "cochinillo asado" (sucking pig) and "frito mallorquín" (containing lamb heart and liver).

Batali writes a little about each location the foursome visited: the restaurants, people they met, places they shopped, culinary specialties they savored, etc. Beyond the recipes, this is useful as a reference for those restaurants and artisanal products that you may have seen in the television series. So if you plan to visit Spain anytime soon, you will be able to find some of the great food that left you salivating. Conversations and quotes from the intrepid foodies are interspersed throughout. There are hundreds of color photos of food, people, and places. In the back, you'll find a list of restaurants and hotels, a recipe index, and an index of people and places.

I liked the book and I like Gwynnie - sorry, haters!
Sorry, but I just don't agree at all with the hateful comments about Gwyneth Paltrow.

Gwyneth doesn't get tattooed, steal other women's husbands, collect orphans, wear a vial of blood around her neck, get out of a car sans underwear, or shave her head in public. She doesn't wipe greasy hands on designer dresses.She doesn't get busted for DUI.

She hasn't been married five or six times and all that other nonsense.

Oooooooooooh....that's so boring.

Gwyneth is a lady, a natural beauty who doesn't have to be constantly in the tabloids.

She has two beautiful children.....and I think her husband is adorable.

She and her family are nice and normal.Sorry if that isn't exciting enough for you Paltrow-haters.

She was wonderful in "Shakespeare In Love", by the way.

Couldn't agree more with roxie and Glenn...she is nepotism at its worst. She was given everything in life. She is a less-than-average mumbling, lisp-infected "actress." She is not attractive in face or figure (and has terrible posture). She is an icon of NOTHING and has done nothing to better the world. Her best role was dating Brad Pitt. Harvey Weinsteing put a lot of eggs in her basket and had to make sure she remained popular. That is one reason she is where she is. The other is her parents. If they weren't who they are, she would be serving you at your local Denny's...ok, maybe that's too beneath "Gwynnie"...she'd be your shampoo girl at the local hair salon...

Terrific plan, puzzling execution...
I bought Tracy's book, & while I am absolutely thrilled with the meal plan & exercise program in theory, I must say that the editing on the dvd is making the last minutes of each of the cardio routines almost impossible to follow. The editing issues range from uneveness on each side of the body, to far more frustrating jarring edits in the middle of one move into an unrelated sequence. In certain portions Tracy begins one movement, one begins to follow what she's started... then the edit smash cuts to a different move entirely. By the time one catches up, it has happened again. Coming in the final minutes of each routine in particular-- when one is sweating and just trying to get through the extra push needed to complete the workout-- it is extremely frustrating to feel that one must resort to just jumping around/ flailing in order to continue moving, as the edits make it impossible to successfully follow Tracy's moves in a precise manner. Surely this dvd was viewed & these things would have been noticed/ seemed worthy of correction...? Tracy says in the book of her cardio dvd, "If you can walk, you can do this." Well... you can't do it well, if the editing prevents consistency.

That aside, the meal plan is well worth the effort, as are Tracy's ideas about fitness/ an overall mindful lifestyle overhaul. For someone so precise in her thinking (& someone with increasing resources as her fitness empire grows), one would think that the supplementary materials (the crucial dvd) would be equally precise. It's challenging to reconcile her insistence in the book that you follow her plan exactly when the dvd prevents that through sloppy editing. I believe that Tracy's sound ideas are far better than their execution in this format-- it's shame she didn't demand the technical expertise that was required to give them their due, especially when so many woman are committed to a desire to precisely follow her plan.

Great book!!Delivers if you are willing to work hard and be committed!
I love this book!!So far, I have been following it for six days, and I am down FOUR pounds!She does what she says, but you have to workout HARD and eat what she says to.The only cons I find to this 30-Day method are:
1.Meal plans can be pricey and the prep work can take a while
2.The workout is quite long, about an hour and a half to two hours.
Other than that, it is a great plan, and I am already seeing visible results.

This book was well worth the cost.You get so much out of it: workouts, a dvd, a menu plan and recipes.

Healthy and fast weight loss
OMG Her diet is awesome..I am not overweight but I weigh 10 pounds more than 5 years ago. I always tried to go back to my skinny weight but nothing worked. I really never did diet because I don't believe those miracle diets, you lose first and then get it back so quickly. I was exercising, did P90X but still could not get back where I wanted to go. I eat really healthy but healthy stuff has calories too, so I needed some other kind of healthy diet that would help me to lose weight while making sure I still get best nutrition for my health.

As i said before I don't like to restrict my menus, but I decided to give her a chance. I felt so good and light first 2 days. When you start to eat real food with nutrition you start to feel very energetic and light. I was eating healthy before but not like this one. I lost 5 pounds in 10 days (half of my target) and my old jean now can fit. If you are overweight probably you will lose more than I do. Because losing weight is relative to your weight. The most important thing I achieved with this diet was breaking the the plateau which prevented me to lose more weight. Now everyday I weigh less..It is incredible. But I did not break my diet whatsoever.

I am also doing her mat exercises, I like them too.

I did not like her dance video, it is really boring for me. Instead I dance myself and try to sweat.

Tracy is great
Ok, when I told my friends I was gonna do the 30 day method bootcamp they told me I would have given up after 2 days because of the strict eating plan. Tracy says you should follow the diet without changing anything but I'm proof that even if you combine the recepies in this book as you like (leaving out all the things you don't really like...kale juice anyone??) it works!
The workout is great too. The muscular structure workout is really painful but it's the first time ever a workout really makes my bum sore! It really engages all the bum muscles!! The cardio was a bit boring for me as I'm used to her other dvds (which are more fun but there's a lot more choreography). She made it on porpuse cause she wanted the workout to be 'doable' for everyone. ... Read more

Do yourself a favor and don't buy this book
Not interesting at all, just a bunch of snapshots Testino takes on his travels, very little vision and planning in the photos or the book itself.

This a one of the books that I find disappointing. I prefer his work on other publications and if you're a lover Mario's work, buy Visionaire or the V magazine instead.

Having bought Any Objections? by the same author with which I was dissapointed I was very glad to see a return to form by Mr. Testino.Alive is truly sumed up by its' title.Its full of life, colour, energy & passion with a healthy dose of sex thrown in for good measure.We are given an access-all-areas tour of Mr. Testino's glamourous life filled with fabulous parties, gorgeous locations & sexy models as well as incredibly candid portraits of celebrities.The photography is first-rate and clearly shows Testino's passion for the medium - he must never be without a camera in his hands!The over-all quality of the book is outstanding with hidden images on the reverse of the jacket and special touches that bring it high above the level of other photography volumes.A real must have for all lovers of the dolce vita!

UTTER DISAPPOINTMENT
After reviewing the book, u can definitely notice the editorial staff must have put a huge amount of afford in this book, trying to project something proper from all those utter mediocre material from mr. testino. Instead of the signature nicely crafted testino shoots that he's known for, we got tons of over-blown blurred cityscape snap shots that wouldn't even fit the wall of a DKNY shop! If this is another publication that is supposed to show "the other side" of the testino spectrum, like his previous books. Then it only shows that even a god can be mortal if he doesn't try.
