Product Description
Sky people, that's what we are, Yoko Ono sang, in the 1985 song "Sky People"; "One day we'll fly and leap through the sky/To look for a good land hand in hand." Now, through the auspices of Ecstatic Peace Library, Yoko Ono has fulfilled these words and devised a book to fly in her stead. Published as a limited edition, Fly Me is a handbound book that unfolds to become a kite featuring seven pages of individual messages or instructions composed by Ono. These messages are designed to be read by all, in the sky on a windy day. You simply unfold the page you wish to fly and attach the paper to the bamboo frame included to construct a massive (30 x 36 inch) diamond-shaped kite. Including such characteristic Ono advice as "Imagine Peace" and "Fly," these messages are printed with soy-based inks on 100% recycled paper. The kite frame itself is made of hand-carved oak from a sustainable forest in New York state. A marvelous addition to Ono's already classic oeuvre of innovative bookmaking, Fly Me is published in a limited edition of 2,500 copies, and is without doubt an instant collector's gem. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Revealing
The over-riding tone of the book is one of honesty. To write a book that reveals the author's own weaknesses and occasional moral double standards is commendable and lends credibility to her writings about the main topic of interest: Lennon. This book gives much insight into the man's personality away from the limelight, his fears and insecurities, and the seemingly unhealthy relationship he had with Yoko Ono.

For musos, there are interesting descriptions of his recording sessions and other musical collaborations, including those with Paul McCartney.

Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars interesting different point of view
This book was released in 1983 or so. That is important because Pang is reflecting on a period of time 8 or 9 years prior, not as if it was written today 25+ years ago, so her memory is still fresh.
It deals with John Lennon and herself (May Pang) when John was sent into 'exile' by Yoko. Pang was supposedly chosen by Ono to accompany John and keep Yoko informed of things. The book deals on two fronts, one being John and Mays life in LA and NY making the "Rock and Roll" album with Phil Spector and the "Walls and Bridges" albums with Elton John and others, the other details Yokos attempt to be a solo artist without John and her launching the disasterous tour of Japan she did.
The book is filled with interesting stories and insights from Pangs point of view, and she really does hold your interest when talking about how John interacted with other musicians like Mick Jagger, Harry Nilson, and even Paul McCartney. She loses it with her repeated telling of how often John said he was in love with her, and her painting of Yoko as 'evil' in her actions. Now both of those may be true, but its written about in excess. I enjoyed the book and found it more interesting than a lot of the new multi-paged Lennon biographies that have been flooding the market lately. I think its a book most John Lennon fans should read, as this was an important time in his life and Pang was there.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some value for fans
I didn't find much insight into John and Yoko, or men and women, or militant feminists and cowardly, confused, complicated musical geniuses.
The real value is for the fan-historian who can enthuse over countless backstories involving all the names we saw on John Lennon's album liner notes. Great stuff on the "Rock and Roll" album insanity.
Along with that, we find some of the best black and white photography ever on JL, and from that "dark" period.

5-0 out of 5 stars May Pang deserved better
I've always been a Beatles fan and John was always my favorite. Reading this book though was definitely eye opening and I discovered how human John and Yoko really were. May Pang was so young and naive. She really put up with more than she should have. Here, she tells of the good times but also of times that she endured abuse from a drunken Lennon and a total lack of compassion from Yoko.

May did a great job telling her story. I hope she made some money with her books. It was disturbing that after being a great "employee" and doing what Yoko wanted, she was, in the end, tossed aside like a worn out pair of shoes. John and Yoko made no effort to look out for May or even make sure she had the means to pay for an apartment or eat.

This book also gives some interesting details about other well known people like Phil Spector, Mick Jagger, Harry Nilsson and many others. I enjoyed the read and would definitely recommend it to other rock and roll fans.

3-0 out of 5 stars Love is all you need?
I liked this book.Did not love it but liked it.It is definitely dated-it reminded me of those Martin Gross books that were so prevalent in the 1970's. A little tawdry but infinitely readable.May seemed a little struck on herself to me and John came off as the man she just had to rescue. The interesting part was the difference between the John she was with and the John Yoko was with. It would be interesting to have Yoko's view side by side to compare.Oh, and I didn't see in there where Elton reunited JohnYoko which was what I always HEARD.I also heard Paul told John to take her back (if Paul himself had not said that--I would laugh.) It was fairly clear that John was torn between the two. Now, I won't name names but she was a bit harsh with people that she really did not KNOW and that, in my humble opinion, would be worth 100 of her.I know people consider her John's last chance or whatever.Well, I am no fan of Yoko and I am not a particular fan of Cynthia so I don't feel I am biased.May was good for him but I don't know if he would have ever given up Yoko--there was a strong attachment there. I was glad that she showed that Paul was level headed.I wondered if she was jealous of Linda or something.Don't shoot me, people, she wasn't that ugly to Linda and in later years (when she was married to Tony Visconti who worked with Paul and Linda on some stuff) I am sure she got to know Linda better, but her comments were a bit odd.One last thing...I am not calling anyone a liar but have you ever read something that was just so hard to believe, Duckie? There are two or three things in there that just did not ring true. One has to take any memoir with a suspension of total belief.Unless you kept a verbatim diary and a running tape recorder (not to mention a video camera)---well I wonder how some memories can be SO PRECISE.Still it is a good book and I think it shows John in a very sweet light. When I read INSTAMATIC KARMA I wondered why some people did not like this book.I can see it now.Yoko and Elliot Mintz and some others that I was not as familiar with are pretty well trashed. Not being there I do not know how much is fair. But I am sure that they have told their "side"--honestly, I just don't care to read it because they are not two of my favorite people but I support them in their right to "set the record straight" just as she did.I wish I had read this book 20 years ago but the reviews all trashed it as being unkind to John which I do NOT see at all so I passed on it not liking to see deceased persons being trashed. I could have saved some cash if I had bought it back then but it was worth the $15. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome.Just awesome.
An indispensible reference for those Beatleologists who tend to think their artistry didn't end with their breakup. As stated in a previous review, it's very well written, engaging, and oh yes, thorough.

If you're looking for a basic discography, then I suggest looking elsewhere. But if you need details on every possible recording made by the ex-Fabs during the remainder of the 20th Century, then this is the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars BEATLES BOOK MADE IN HEAVEN
ONE WORD AND ONE WORD ONLY, THIS BOOK IS AWESOME
(WELL THAT WAS 10 WORDS), BUT HEH IT REALLY IS AWESOME

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of Its Kind
I was practically inseperable with this book for weeks after I first got it.Well-written and exhaustively in-depth look at every aspect of the four ex-Beatles solo careers. This has all the info you could ever want on solo albums, tours, TV appearances, bootlegs, etc.The only drawback is that I got so into it I was forced to buy all the solo records I hadn't already owned! ... Read more

Product Description

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J9030181) presents the top 10 predictions for the Japan communications market in 2009. The deteriorating economic climate caused by the uncertainty in the financial system after 2H08 has a huge impact on the Japan communications market. Hence, restructuring of the industry is expected to take place. Nevertheless, communication is indispensable to personal lives and corporate activities. Therefore, there are signs of formation of new markets based on the introduction of new technologies and products.

"Players taking part in this market must further select their business scope and focus their resources. Providing open solutions and value-added services (VASs) to users is the key. IDC foresees that 2009 will be the right time for the market players to originate the development of new revenue sources with the prerequisite of introducing open and value-added solutions," says George Hoffman, group manager, Communications, IDC Japan.

Product Description
Imagine: John Lennon, authorized by Yoko Ono and drawn extensively from material in the late Beatle's personal archives, is more than a tribute to his timeless legacy. Rare film footage, photographs, and the words of family and friends--plus a wealth of Lennon's own quintessential wit and candor--paint a uniquely intimate portrait of the man behind the legend. Here is the poignant story of the tough Liverpool kid who conquered the world with his music, from childhood through dank Hamburg and Liverpool clubs to Beatlemania, from global fame and wealth to a never-ending search for fulfillment as an artist and a man. It charts his loves--for his first wife, Cynthia; his sons, Julian and Sean; and his great collaborator Yoko Ono--and his passions, art, music, and above all his work for peace. From Lennon the performer, in spectacular shots by the world's top rock photographers, to Lennon the lover, father, and human being in intimate family photographs (many never-before published), Imagine captures the man who was the touchstone for his generation. Originally published as the companion to a film biography of Lennon, the book is a handsome tribute to his life and art, and will make an elegant gift for Beatles fans and all admirers of John Lennon's music and imagination. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect birthday gift for a Beatles fan.
I bought this book for my favorite Brother-in-law.He is a die hard Beatles fan.The book arrived before promised and in perfect condition.

I own a copy of this book and I was so happy to extend the pleasure of the contents in this book to my brother-in-law.

John Lennon was our favorite Beatle and his life was ended way too early.Unlike some legends it was at the hands of a maniac not self inflicted as recent very wonderful and talented performers.May God let them all rest in peace now.

2-0 out of 5 stars not that great...rambling John & annoying Yoko
I've read lots of John Lennon interviews & I generally find him to be fascinating, controversial, and entertaining. This interview is not in the same vein. John is rambling, Yoko is self-congratulatory, and there are no revelations here.

One interesting note: John briefly talks about his assistant Fred Seaman who went on to write a book about the last few years of Lennon's life. Yoko Ono went up against him in court after he admitted to taking some of Lennon's diaries supposedly being asked by John to pass them along to his son Julian.

All in all, there are much more interesting and revelatory interviews with John Lennon than this last interview of his life.

4-0 out of 5 stars John's Final Thoughts
This book is the transcript of John Lennon's final interview. In the introduction to the book, Andy Peebles describes John as "the finest interviewee it has ever been my privilege to face".

This interview mostly covers John's solo work and his life after the Beatles.Mr. Peebles asks Lennon about virtually every solo album John did.He also asks about various individual songs from those albums.John talks about the various concerts he played without the Beatles. And he discusses work he did with other musicians, such as Mick Jagger, Elton John and David Bowie.

In the interview John does refer to Paul, George and Ringo. He also speaks of the childhoods ofJulian and Sean.John mentions his personal assistant and future author Fred Seaman in this book.

John describes his troubles with the record companies. They didn't want to release some of his work because of the lyrics or album covers. Then he'd get shorted on the royalties. And on top of that some of his songs weren't given radio play because of controversial lyrics.

John says he was set up by the police when he was busted for drugs in England. And his criminal record in England caused him trouble for the rest of his life.

Regarding the Double Fantasy album John says all the songs came to him while he was in Bermuda. On that album he mostly used musicians he'd never worked with before.

Ironically, Andy Peebles' last question to John was about his personal security.John replies in effect that he feels safe and comfortable on the streets of New York.Unfortunately, that false sense of security proved fatal in the end.

This book shows that John Lennon in his final days was in good spirits. He was sharp, honest and insightful. He had numerous plans for the future. He was already planning and working on his next two albums when he died. ... Read more

Excerpt: Yoko Ono Ono Yko, kanji: ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese-American artist, musician, author and peace activist, also known for her marriage to John Lennon and her groundbreaking work in avant-garde art, music and filmmaking. Ono brought feminism to the forefront through her music, and is also considered a pioneer and major influence of the 1970s new wave genre. She is a supporter of gay rights and is known for her philanthropic contributions to the arts, peace and AIDS outreach programs. Yoko Ono was born to mother Isoko Ono, the granddaughter of Zenjiro Yasuda of the Yasuda banking family, and to father Yeisuke Ono who was a descendant of an Emperor of Japan. Two weeks before she was born, her father was transferred to San Francisco. The rest of the family followed soon after. In 1937, her father was transferred back to Japan and Ono was enrolled at Tokyo's Gakushuin, one of the most exclusive schools in Japan, which, before World War II, was open only to the Japanese imperial family and aristocrats of the House of Peers. In 1940, the family moved to New York City, where Ono's father was working. In 1941, her father was transferred to Hanoi and the family returned to Japan. Ono was then enrolled in an exclusive Christian primary school run by the Mitsui family. She remained in Tokyo through the great fire-bombing of March 9, 1945. During the fire-bombing, she was sheltered with other members of her family in a special bunker in the Azabu district of Tokyo, far from the heavy bombing. After the bombing, Ono went to the Karuizawa mountain resort with members of her family. The younger members of the imperial family were sent to the same resort area. Ono has said that she and her family w...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=34350 ... Read more
