5-0 out of 5 stars I've shared this with all of my relatives!
This book has great crafts for children.I bought it to do crafts with children when I volunteer.I have taken it on all of my vacations where I see relatives with children.Everyone I show the book to loves it so I've purchased the book as a present for each of them.I have artwork hanging on my walls from young cousins who put the book to use right away! Not only does it have great crafts but the crafts use inexpensive items you can find around your home.If you are reading this review you should be buying this book.Have fun!

3-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this one....
I bought this after seeing one of the crafts from the book featured on a blog and then reading the positive reviews on Amazon.
I'm a little dissapointed, the book is just okay. The crafts just don't seem original or all that crafty....for example painting canvas sneakers, friendship bracelets with embroidery thread, tie dye (with little direction, if any on what type of dye to purchase), painting plates, using pushpins to decorate pillar candles... just not what I was hoping for.
Three stars for the nice layout and pictures and hope that these will be crafts my daughters will take pride in doing on their own when they're older, maybe in the tween years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Raves for Rosie!
This is a well-done craft book with many novel, as well as some resurrected, craft ideas for beginners and advanced crafters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rosie O'Donnell's Crafty U
I bought this book as a gift for my granddaughters.Their Girl Scout troop has put the book to good use for projects.Great craft book for kids.

3-0 out of 5 stars Crafts sound great but finished product not always as shown
As a mom to 3 girls who love crafts as well as a Girl Scout Leader I am pretty well versed in the fine art of crafting. We've made several of the crafts in this book and just weren't impressed with the finished product.I understand that the pictures were all staged but we've been pretty disappointed with the results. The ideas are great and we'll continue to use the book as a springboard for our own projects. ... Product Description
Rosie O'Donnell's New York Times bestselling memoir reveals the amazing experience that changed her life forever. Part memoir, part mystery, FIND ME is a compelling tale that will break readers' hearts even as it heals them. Told in Rosie's candid, moving voice, it is the true story of a friendship between a troubled young woman and a celebrity obsessed with helping her. As this bizarre relationship unfolds--and unravels--so, too, does Rosie's history, forcing powerful acts of remembering and reckoning. Through it all, we come to know the author on a deeply personal--and sometimes shocking--level as Rosie reveals not only the way the past transforms the present, but how a single stranger can spark irrational longings, profound obsession and, finally, the opportunity to put these forces to work in a healing way. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Embarrassing
As others have said, for the die-hard Rosie fan who wants to know everything about her, Find Me is part of everything. Self-realization notwithstanding, the main story in this book is embarrassing. Fine that Rosie calls herself obsessed and crazy, but she didn't get over it by the time the book ended. Isn't that the point of acknowledging ones wallowing? -- getting out of it and taking a shower?

1-0 out of 5 stars Find you!? How could anybody miss you!?
Sorry I know it's not much but it's all I had. Seriously though, this woman's great ham-like head can be seen from space. You couldn't mount her head above the fireplace in the den, you'd have to mount it over the Jumbo-tron at the Astro-Dome.

And if there was ever a woman born of woman who looked MORE like Fred Flintstone, I've never seen her.

5-0 out of 5 stars Touching Book to say the least!
I laughed, I cried, I felt like it was a story parrallel to my own. Came out of this book feeling like I knew Rosie and was so touched at how she was able to describe feelings that actually made you understand her joys and pains. This was one of the best reads in a long time for me. I am in the midst of Celebrity Detox but I am not finding it as hard to put down as Find Me was.

1-0 out of 5 stars What was that?
I bought this book at the dollar store and I think it was overpriced.I can't believe anyone published this book.It is like reading someone's story of a dream they had.It is confusing and it is just a dream so, who cares. Why would you want to read about it?I like Rosie, but I think you are missing nothing if you skip this book. I thought it would be a kind of bio, but it wasn't that at all.It was strange, and not even in an interesting way.

2-0 out of 5 stars I will spare you the trouble of reading it
O'Donnell is contacted by a woman suffering from multiple personality disorder who pretends to be an abused, pregnant teenager who was raped by a youth minister. O'Donnell deeply identifies with her, which makes you wonder if she was molested by someone in her church. She ferociously bonds with this woman, even when she finds out the girl doesn't exist and the real woman is someone like her now. She still corresponds with this woman. This story is woven between scattered memories of her mother. We all lose our mother sooner or later, and the ones who lost her sooner suffer more, but you shouldn't drag it through the rest of your life like a crutch. Still, O'Donnell became rich and famous and can now support that crutch in grand style. Those of us not rich and famous just have to snap out of it. And that's it. It's not a biography because the glimpses of her journey to fame are too brief and disconnected. It's a depressing book. ... Read more

Product Description
Sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, and always brutally honest, this is Rosie O'Donnell's surprising account of the pain, regret, and euphoria involved in withdrawing from celebrity life--and the terrifying dangers of relapsing into the spotlight.

CELEBRITY DETOX is Rosie's story of the years after she walked away from her top-rated TV show in 2002, and her reasons for going back on the air in 2006. In it, she takes you inside the world of talk show TV, speaking candidly about the conflicts and challenges she faced as cohost on ABC's The View. Along the way Rosie shows us how fame becomes addiction and explores whether or not it's possible for an addict to safely, and sanely, return to the spotlight.

Chronicling the ups and downs of "the fame game," Rosie O'Donnell illuminates not only what it's like to be a celebrity, but also what it's like to be a mother, a daughter, a leader, a friend, a sister, a wife...in short, a human being. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rosie 1Barbara Walters0
I thought this was a fairly good book.I feel like Rosie was honest with her thoughts and feelngs and after reading this book, I have a totally different outlook and opinion of Barbara Walters.I understand that Rosie felt betrayed by her so-called friend, Barbara Walters. With friends like that, who needs enemies??I feel bad that Rosie was left hanging after her time with The View was over but I am glad she has moved on.She speaks her mind, not just in this book, but in interviews as well, and I don't feel she is dishonest and does not try to hide behind her beliefs, her thoughts and her feelings. She is very passionate about many things.Barbara Walters could take a lesson from her.Rock On, Rosie!!You're the BEST!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars I love Rosie but I could only get through 50% of it
When Rosie talked about her life and not done through the blogs it was pretty interesting. I think the theme of celebrity detox isn't what I would have wanted to read about. I think if she had taken another approach to telling her life story to date it would have been good. Maybe it was therapeutic for her but not interesting to me. However, I am a huge Rosie fan and agree with her political views, life style and her say it like it is approach - it is how I live...so she's great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Genius vs. Crazy
I love Rosie O'Donnell. I loved her on the view. I thought Rosie spoke well for those of us that shared her opinion. I loved her honesty on the Oprah interview, which is why I purchased the book. However, after reading her book, yes, I still love Rosie. I heard her "pain" and read her "crazy" brought on by her public life, circumstances and possibly her gift to entertain, and her struggle to maintain the insanity of her life and choices. I don't really think that she needed to write this book(no explanation necessary of your life and choices, they belong to you and you live the consequences) it was kind of like reading her personal diary, no one need ever see it but friends and family long after she's passed. With that said I read it in 3 days and that is with a 2yr old tugging at me day and night.

5-0 out of 5 stars "The One and Only Rosie O'Donnell"
In 1996 Rosie O'Donnell became a household name when she hosted her own daily syndicated talk show that was very similar to the old "Merv Griffin Show". In her talk show Rosie wanted television to steer away from the "trash" format that daytime television had seen since the early nineties, and it wasn't long before Rosie was known as "The Queen of Nice". O'Donnell interviewed everyone from Barbra Streisand to Tom Cruise, and it wasn't long before Rosie became a millionaire. In "Celebrity Detox" Rosie discusses the highs and lows in becoming a celebrity herself, from wanting to become rich and famous to not understanding how she still wasn't happy when those accomplishments were met. She writes about the problems she faced when she did her talk show to that day when she decided to end it, a time when she was at her peak. Probably even more interesting is when Rosie discusses her decision to come back to TV on "The View", her battles with producers as well as Barbara Walters, as well as her on-air showdown with frumpy Elizabeth Hasslebrook (a former reality performer with an IQ of about 2), to her decision to quit weeks before her contract was up at ABC. "Celebrity Detox" is a must-read in order to give fans a glimpse into the life of one of the greatest talk show hosts of all-time. It's also wonderful to know that once Oprah Winfrey quits her talk series Rosie will yet again be hosting another syndicated talk show. I for one am counting the months to that debut: daytime television is not the same without Miss Rosie!

1-0 out of 5 stars Scattered and boring
I picked up this book at a local thrift shop for a few coins, thinking it sounded like an interesting read. After about 100 pages I wondered why I was still reading it. Rosie's writing is very scattered and I found it hard to follow her stories. All of the big gossip and stories Rosie shrugs off acting like she had no idea it was even going on the whole time, like the drama with Donald Trump, Rosie says she never turned her TV during the whole escapade. This book did make me feel a little sorry for all the drama and stress celeb's have to go through, but only a little bit sorry. Rosie has tons of money and time to do anything she wants, why would I feel bad for her? Doesn't she realize people with hardly any money who are working more than forty hours a week still have to deal with drama and stress. I would not recommend reading this book. Will probably take it back to the thrift store. ... Read more

All profits from the sale of this book go to the ForAllKids Foundation dedicated to children's charities. If that isn't reason enough to purchase this wonderful book, just know that you and your children will have countless laughs because of it.

I have three girls myself, and they absolutely love this book. The whole family enjoys the countless hours of entertainment that it provides.

Over the years, Rosie O'Donnell has received an amazing amount of jokes that children all over the world sent to "The Rosie O'Donnell Show."In this hysterically cute book, O'Donnell compiles a bunch of her favorites that she guarantees to bring smiles and laughter to your day. Each page of this book is loaded with humorous jokes that children took the time to send in.The jokes are often complimented with funny drawings, that give the book a much needed personal touch.

This book is a real winner, and a must for any family with children. It will not dissappoint.

5-0 out of 5 stars this book is so AWESOME!
i would really like to know why you people gave this book only 2 and a half stars. really? well u know what this is such a good book. it talks about rosie's entire life and gives a great biography of her career andlife story. everyone who enjoys rosie as much as i do should read it. itssoooooo good!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not the best book for a true Rosie fan
This book is just a rumor filled book of junk. The chapter on her sexuality was distastefull as well as mean. We all love Rosie no matter what. She is an attractive women that diserves some respect. This was apoorly written book, with no taste. That only thing I enjoyed was the pics. There is no proof to any of the information, and I hope everyone realizesthis.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you have to read it go to a library.
This book was a waste of time and pure drival. The authers did not capture thhne essesence of Rosie or why so many people adore her. It read like a rushed compilation of tabloid trash. As well it's references to Rosies sexuality was offensive and steriotypes. If she is or is not gay her fans don't care, we watch her every day for her class, humor, and the way she remains being a star stuck little girl from Long Island waiting at the stage door for an autograph. We all know she's a talented celeb. but she constanly forgets. If you want to learn more about Rosie watch her show, in one episode she reveles more about her self than this book does. Kilroy

5-0 out of 5 stars LOTS OF INSIDE INFO FOR FANS
I thoroughly enjoyed this sensitive portrait of my favorite star. And unlike another reader, I thought the chapter on her sexuality was deftly handled. I also liked the way the authors addressed other personal issues, like her family and her struggle with her weight. I felt like the authors were NOT out to do some quick hatchet job on her. They really got the tone of her TV show. Highly recommended by a HUGE ROSIE FAN.

1-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOKIS A PIECE OF TRASH
THIS is by far theworst book ever written on a person. If any of you are interested on the chapter on Rosie being gay don't buy the bookHere are there reasons George says :

Owns two motor cycles

Only wears make-up onstage

Doesn't shave her legs.

Or chin

Doesn't wear dresses or much jewelery

Still a self-confessed jock

Not afraid of power tools.

And lots more stupid reasons. I hated this book in fact don't buy it just look on the internet for all the information you need. Because acording to his bibliography that's where he got most of the information ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars hateful spew
this book is a disgrace...god bless you Rosie for keeping it real...finally America & the world is waking up to the fact that you actually speak the truth that no one else dares...my hero...
i hate that i had to rate this pathetic excuse for a book to make my comment it deserves less than zero.....

1-0 out of 5 stars Vile
This hateful spew is a waste of perfectly good trees, not to mention a big yawn. If it were possible to give it less than one star I would have.
Shame on all who were involved with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rotten book
They might as well just called the book "I hate rosie", it's a total waste of tree for the paper needed to print this book only donald trump could love.

1-0 out of 5 stars I think Fox News may have commissioned this book!
If you want to save yourself a few bucks, or more importantly, the few minutes of your life it'll take to realize this is pure, fictional trash, just go flick on Fox News. You'll get the same vomit inducing effect, without all the effort of having to read.

Poorly written books can often still be entertaining, but not in this case.Opinion is stated as fact, assumptions are made that no rationally thinking person could ever come to, and aspersions are cast out of what appears to be nothing more than a visceral hatred of Ms. O'Donnell.

The author of this book, for whatever reason, is intent on trashing O'Donnell, logic and fact are just collateral damage.

PURE TRASH, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a life
People are people. Are you the same on your job as you are at home? Are you the same at home as you are in your head? I hate books that try to shove people into little categories. Rosie gives to charities and loves children and if that were all she was, it would be enough. People who have to find the negative in celebrities are probably very negative people themselves. By the way, the cover is a very poorly digitally altered picture to make her look fatter. Nice touch, Jim, Susan and Nicholas. Editorial Review

Product Description
There is no relationship more fulfilling, infuriating, emotional, and problematic than that of a mother and daughter. Psychology has traditionally regarded as inevitable -- and, in fact, necessary -- a female child's eventual separation from her mother as adulthood ensues. Now renowned psychologist and author Martha Manning offers mothers and daughters of all ages a revolutionary new way of understanding each other and their relationships, and challenges the accepted thinking that this powerful bond must ultimately be severed. In a work of intelligence, wit, heart, and scholarship, Manning examines this important link and concludes that it is a precious attachment that is never outgrown -- that, while the differing, ever-changing needs, conflicts, and obligations of two distinct women may create a chasm between them, bridging the gap will serve to strengthen a lifelong commitment, love, and identity, while fostering essential independence. The key is empathy.

Through empathy -- the ability to perceive the other's actions as an aspect of individual behavior -- even a troubled relationship can become gratifying and beautiful. Exploring the developmental stages of the mother-daughter union from infancy through old age, Manning provides potent tools to help us build stronger ties, enabling us to celebrate rather than eschew the twists and turns, joys, secrets, and surprises inherent in this most glorious of life connections. She also focuses new attention on the parts played by cultural, historical, psychological, and biological influences, areas often ignored in previous works on the subject.

Drawing on her personal experiences as a mother, daughter, and "champion eavesdropper," combined with scrupulous research and intriguing insights culled from today's headlines, literature, pop culture, and extensive clinical experience, the author casts a fascinating new light on what can -- and should -- be a dynamic, fluid, and mutually empowering relationship. For everyone who is, and always will be, a mother, a daughter, or both, this important, inspiring book will guide the reader toward a new love and respect born of understanding and the enriching ability to find the common thread.

Amazon.com Review
Clinical psychologist Martha Manning skillfully pieces together the many "squares" that make up mother-daughter relationships, with empathy as the common thread that binds them all. The result is an elaborate, expansive quilt, rich with facts, anecdotes, and her own compelling stories from daughterhood and motherhood.

While chapter titles ("Pregnancy and Childbirth," "Infancy," "Childhood," and so on) suggest a clear progression, Manning's tendency is to travel whatever fascinating allegorical "back roads" she spots. Thus, her young adulthood chapter wonderfully dissects the elements of change, autonomy, and the new roles mothers assume as their daughters enter this stage; yet along the route, readers will find gems in Manning's references to Venn diagrams, passports, many contemporary books and plays, and a sitcom-worthy transcript from a visit to her elderly parents, titled, "You Can Never Have Too Much Heat and Light."

All reference details park at the back of the book, leaving plenty of room for the heavy flow of Manning's analyses, insights, and musings. Not surprisingly, she lists author Andrew Solomon (The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression) as an inspiration: Manning's own work--while not as exhaustive as Solomon's--similarly weaves, bends, and takes the occasional untrod mental path, with truly laudable results. --Liane Thomas ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one!
I found this book to be very enjoyable. The relationship between a mother and daughter is extremely complex and changes through out ones life. She handles each stage masterfully addressing what is going on with each member of this union. Her style, humor, and knowledge make this easy to read. She uses real life examples that makes her descriptions to flow easily.I found the book to be not only heartwarming, but very endearing, in what is often a love-hate relationship in our lives.I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to explore the complex nature of a mother/daughter relationship.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Gift To Mothers and Daughters
Dr. Manning uses literature and her own personal experiences as she explores the mother/daughter relationship from pregnancy to old age. She helps you to understand this sometimes challenging connection. What I like most about Manning's work, is her humor that shines through, particularly when dealing with difficult circumstances. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is a mother or a daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ FOR MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS ALIKE
I've always been drawn to works of fiction, not psychology, to try and understand the human psyche. But Martha Manning has won over my heart with her new book, THE COMMON THREAD. Yes, it's a book that delves head-on into numerous psychological issues that are born out of the mother-daughter journey. But she uses literature and stories from her own life to make these issues come alive. Manning is such an exquisite (and breezy) writer that you forget you're reading a serious nonfiction book. I got the same pleasure out of reading THE COMMON THREAD as I do reading a favorite novel. I also have an entirely new understanding of my current realtionship with my mother and a new set of tools for navigating our future together. Thank you Dr. Manning for such this truly special book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Compassionate, wise, and true
In this astonishing book, Martha Manning really pins down the truth of mother-daughter relationships--how difficult, how tender, how involved they are, how they define whole lives. In prose that is often beautiful, she evokes the intimacy and the struggle that exist between the females of the family, and shows how the generations learn to tolerate what they cannot love in each other. What's especially astonishing is that Manning is able so often to accomplish her purpose with gentle humor--the book keeps you smiling from cover to cover, even when it's describing difficult passages in life.I recommend it unconditionally. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Everything Rosie: The Ultimate Guide for Rosie O'Donnell Fans
I firmly believe that Rosie O'Donnell is a great human being, with a big heart, sensitive to other people's feelings and problems, always ready to help.I wish there were more people like her.I can truly say I am a very devoted and great fan of Rosie. Thank you Rosie for being who you are.Never change!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything is Coming up Roses
I like Rosie. Her humour, her compassion, her philathropic values. She is a great woman - or so she presents herself to be - inside and out. This book 'Everything Rosie' is a biography and anecdotal book about the life of the actress/comedian Rosie O'Donnell. From the death of her mother at the mere age of 10, her talk show and to when she first became a mother to Parker.
This a great book for fans to learn a little bit more about Rosie and where she comes from. You understand her a little bit better at the end of the book and admire her that much more.
The book is written in different formats, using song exceprts, AOL snippets and show by show guest lists.
Recommended for the fan by a fan . . . not for someone who does not enjoy Rosie O'Donnell

4-0 out of 5 stars All you need to know about Rosie
Before I read this book I didn't know much about Rosie O'Donnell. But after reading this I got to know who the person behind the famous Rosie O'Donnell show is.You get to know her thoughts and feelings, and you feel close to her after this book. You understand her in a way I didn't before. There are included some nice pictures, but in my opinion there are not enough. Also there are online chats with Rosie, that gives you a clue to how her humour works.I loved the book. But I think you need to be an inquisitive fan of her to do that. You want some questions answered. If that's who you are, buy it.If you only want pictures of her, then this is not the right book. And if you already know all you need to know about her, then this is not the book for you. This is kind of a beginner's guide to Rosie.

1-0 out of 5 stars Rosie still has fans?
People still enjoy this woman and books written about her? She is a disgusting fat pig with very little talent. This book exemplifies her "wonderful" qualities. Did I mention she's a hypocrite?

5-0 out of 5 stars For Rosie
I can say nothing but great things about this book ,and all of Rosie's books for that matter.I like her work so much, I can relate to her because she and I are alike.A tell it like it is kind of person. No matter what publicity has/and or does say about Rosie I think she is a great woman, and I adore her work.I enjoy reading her books, and so forth.Personally I am not a reading person, but when I picked this book up I couldn't put it down, I wanted to know what was going to happen!Just like when I read "Find Me"I bought it and read it all in the same day.Now that is a first for me,I have never finished a book the same day, actually I can't remember the last time I finished a book.Anyhow, If you like Rosie go out and buy this book, or anyone of her books, and trust me you'll be glad you did. ... ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Pah.
Also, the book itself is complete crud, being nothing more tangible than one would expect to find in the National Enquirer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Question
Why is it "stars" get really irritating after they announce they're lesbians?I mean, I was always brought up by such fine publications as Hustler to believe lesbians were really cool!I mean, thing-wearing housewives and 36 DD latina maids get lonely, right?Sounds perfectly rational to me.

But whenever someone comes out of the closet (looking suspiciously not at all like the skirt-wearing girl inmates starring in that video I have in my closet behind my socks), all they can talk about is how they are a lesbian!Geez!Maybe if you just treated it like it was normal, nobody would bug you about it!Look at Elton John! Nobody knows what he is, and nobody bugs him.Know why?Because NOBODY WANTS TO KNOW. he doesn't talk about it, organize les/bi/gay cruises--he just wears frilly clothes and capitalizes on dead British royalty.

So unless Rosie has a friend named Rosa stowed somewhere who has just finished the laundry and knows Mrs. Nikki is taking her bubble bath all alone, let the matter drop.America doesn't care, and this book is a waste.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not even worth one star!
Malacious gossip & rumor. Total waste of time. Instaed of donating it to rhe public library like I normally do, I threw it in the trash. Actually the trash deserves to be in better company than this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Publishers' Weekly Review
"Her fans will buy and enjoy this book" - Publishers' WeeklyIn this unauthorized bio, seasoned Hollywood journalist and author James Robert Parish (The Liza Minelli Story etc.) has reserched O'Donnell's climb to fame drawing on print and TV interviews, critical reviews and press releases, as well as interviews with her colleagues. O'Donnell's comic career, feature films and Broadway show are well detailed here and her story is an inspiring one. Until O'Donnell writes her autobiography this bio may be the most thorough we'll get. Publishers' Weekly March 17, 1997 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Allergic to Roses
While not as ambitious as her work in "Toothpaste: From Start to Finish" this book is written in a way that could inspire kids to read. In fact, this may be a great book for some but, the fact that I cannot stomach three continous seconds of anything that has to do with Rosie O'donnell pretty much makes this a no-go for me.I may not like this book, but that doesn't mean your or your child will not. I think book is as good or better than the following titles that you may or may not have read... Product Description
There is more to listening than just hearing.

A miraculous process that begins in the womb, learning to communicate is a vital part of expressing oneself and of understanding and interacting with the world. A child’s ability to listen well affects every aspect of his or her life. But for some 1.5 million children in the United States who have normal hearing and intelligence, communication and language are blocked. Words are jumbled and distorted. These children have a hard time following directions and become frustrated in trying to make themselves understood, which often leads to unruly behavior, poor school performance, social isolation, and low self-esteem.

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) affects the brain’s ability to accurately process the sounds of speech, which in turn impedes the ability to communicate. Experts are just beginning to unlock the mystery of this confounding condition. As a result, APD is often undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. But hope is here. Now veteran speech-language pathologist Lois Kam Heymann offers the first practical guide to help parents dramatically improve the listening and language skills of their children, whether they have a diagnosed auditory processing disorder, slow language development—or simply need practice listening. Inside this reassuring, action-oriented book you’ll find

• easy-to-identify milestones to help parents pinpoint challenges that may arise during each stage of their child’s development from birth to age eight
• the tools and checklists needed to assist parents in recognizing APD early
• tips to distinguish APD from other listening/learning disorders, including ADD, ADHD, LPD, and PDD
• methods to encourage a child’s natural listening abilities through books, stories, nursery rhymes, songs, lullabies, toys, and games
• home techniques to hone a child’s auditory processing—whether he or she has severe APD limitations or just needs to build listening “muscles”
• specific suggestions on how to improve a child’s listening skills outside the home—at school, during after-school activities, even when at a restaurant
• an analysis of traditional classroom settings and effective ways parents can advocate for better sound quality
• guidelines for finding the right professionals to work with your child

With hands-on ways for improving a child’s ability to listen to instructions, process information, and follow directions, parents can turn simple activities into powerful listening lessons in only minutes a day. The bottom line: Learning how to listen in our noisy, complicated world is the key to a happy and engaged child. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sound of Hope
I got this book for my daughter in law who is in nurse practitioner school and my granddaughter was showing slight symptoms of an auditory problem. She found this very helpful for understanding the problem and said she will be able to use this as a reference for classes she is taking. All in all a very informative book.

2-0 out of 5 stars A simplistic description of APD
This is a good first book if your child has already been diagnosed with APD.All her ideas for helping with APD deal with children ages 6 and under (rhymes, songs, etc). She also points out that APD can't be diagnosed before age 7.Rosie O'Donnel's description of the problem is the best part of the book. The author totally ignores the major treatments for APD--the computer based programs Earobics [...] for $70 and Fast4Word ($1000).Her ideas might work if the child is diagnosed early (but it can't be diagnosed before age 7 according to the author).Nursery rhymes will not help an older child. This is a simple to read book that describes how a child learns to use language. It does NOT give information about how to treat or how to accommodate someone with APD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for parents
"Sound of Hope" actually brought much more than hope to us. This book is extremely informative and very clear. There are innumerable and practical ideas in there. And it's most encouraging to parents. It is a clear guide on how to bring out the best in our children, and gets you on the tracks toward success.

We personally had the special privilege to work with the respectful author Lois Heymann. She guided us on how to teach our child. She is one of a kind expert in teaching, listening skills, expansion of language and vocabulary as well as speech. Being sparked with enthusiasm, Lois knows how to keep children well motivated in therapy.

We've given "Sound of Hope" to all that are working with our child. They were very grateful. Besides all knowledge gained from the book, they found many ideas that they are implementing while working with our child.

2-0 out of 5 stars Getting help for APD through the school system
I looked forward to this book coming out.My daughter, who is now 17, was diagnosed in 6th grade with APD.Through the years I have had to FIGHT for the small accommodations she was given.I have paid countless tutors to help her get through school.I have never shown her her scores from her evaluations, because I think they would have hurt her.

I wish this book had gone into how to get the school system to give your child the help they need. The children who fall in the grey area are the ones that are lost.Unfortunately, the book did not help.I really feel the kids with APD are those that are left behind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Auditory Processing Disorders
I am so grateful for this book.I am grateful for Rosie to tell Blake's story troubles and triumphs throughout this book.My son had otitis effusions in his ears for a long time.I didn't really notice it until his speech was somewhat delayed. He never had ear infections. It has been a journey just to correct this, but now I am questioning a possible form of APD.He does well on many levels but I am not sure he gets language and how to use it all the time.He is about to enter school, and APD can't be fully diagnosed until a later age.I am not going to wait until then before trying to figure out how I might help him. This book has really given me some hands on steps that I can work with my son
to develop better listening skills even if he turns out not to have APD.This book was easy to understand but very detailed.I thought the author did a excellant job explaining APD so that teachers and other care providers can get it.I am now preparing to enter my son in 4K school and this book will really help me to ffigure out how to best help him.I highly recommend this book to all parents, teachers, and school administration.

I would also recommend the mislabeled child. This book was also a lifesaver for me.Read it!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rosie's Right On!
If you only buy one book about breast cancer, make it this one. When I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer I bought many books. That is my way of dealing...get all of the information that you can and then make decisions.I almost did not buy this book, because I did not find anything amusing about breast cancer and I thought that the book was irreverant.Boy was I wrong!Dr. Axelrod provides a great deal of valuable information.Rosie's comments are touching and funny and remind you that it is ok to laugh. It is more than ok, it it about the best thing that you can do for yourself and those you love. Thanks Dr. Axelrod and Rosie!

5-0 out of 5 stars a gift
I got this book as a gift for my mother when she was diagnosed with it, and she loves it! We don't have anyone else in our family who's had breast cancer so it was pretty scary when she was diagnosed because we have hardlyany knowledge of the facts of the disease. She loves it though because asshe said, the internet is a great source of information but it is toobroad. This book is very specific and is written in plain english which iswhy I like it for her. She likes it because of the practical advice such aswearing a sports bra after surgery for better support. She also found theDr. Susan Love's Breast book very helpful with the technical information.

3-0 out of 5 stars Breast Cancer 101 with some time out for laughter
This is an easy-to-digest book of general facts about breast cancer. It is easily understood by the lay person with no prior knowledge of this disease and is made palpable by Rosie's outrageous sense of humor.I wouldrecommend this book for anyone who wants to get a beginner's education onthe subject of breast cancer.
