Excerpt:Anita Mui Anita Mui Yim-fong (10 October 1963 - 30 December 2003) was a popular Hong Kong singer and actress. She was also the younger sister of Hong Kong singer, Ann Mui . During her prime years she made major contributions to the cantopop music scene, while receiving numerous awards and honours. Her fanbase reached far beyond Hong Kong, and into many parts of Asia including Taiwan , Mainland China , Singapore , Malaysia as well as the overseas market. In the Hong Kong entertainment industry where stars often come and go, Mui was able to remain a major star in the spotlight for 20 years. Her career only came to a stop in 2003 when she was suddenly diagnosed with cervical cancer , dying at the early age of 40. Even so, her music and film legacy continues to live on. Her success reached well beyond that of the entertainment circle with humanitarian work, donations and charities that played a major role in helping society even well into the present day.Career Early years Mui experienced many hardships and difficulties in her childhood. Read more

Excerpt: Faye Wong () (born August 8, 1969) is a Chinese singer, songwriter, actress and model. She is an icon popular in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and to some extent in the West. She came to fame in the early 1990s while she was based in Hong Kong, returning to Beijing around 1996. Her fan base has grown so large and devoted that media in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China often place the title tinhòu (, which literally means Heavenly Queen but usually refers to singers who are widely popular) before her name, while Japanese fans call her "Diva of Asia". An intensely private artist, she is widely popular on both sides of the Taiwan Straits, despite her apparent nonchalance toward the media. According to Guinness World Records, Faye Wong had sold 9.7 million copies of her albums in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan as of March 2000, giving her the title of Best Selling Canto-Pop Female. She has acted in several TV shows and films, most memorably in Wong Kar-wai's Chungking Express, a role that won her "Best Actress" award at the 1994 Stockholm International Film Festival, and in 2046. She is known to many Final Fantasy fans for her Final Fantasy VIII theme "Eyes on Me", and has also been the spokeswoman of brands such as Head ... Read more

Excerpt: María Eva Duarte de Perón (Spanish pronunciation: ; 7 May 1919 26 July 1952) was the second wife of President Juan Perón (18951974) and served as the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. She is often referred to as simply Eva Perón, or by the affectionate Spanish language diminutive Evita, which literally translates into English as "Little Eva". She was born out of wedlock in the village of Los Toldos in rural Argentina in 1919, the fourth of five children. In 1934, at the age of 15, she went to the nation's capital of Buenos Aires, where she pursued a career as a stage, radio, and film actress. Eva met Colonel Juan Perón on January 22, 1944, in Buenos Aires during a charity event at the Luna Park Stadium to benefit the victims of an earthquake in San Juan, Argentina. The two were married the following year. In 1946, Juan Perón was elected President of Argentina. Over the course of the next six years, Eva Perón became powerful within the pro-Peronist trade unions, essentially for speaking on behalf of labor rights. She also ran the Ministries of Labor and Health, founded and ran the charitable Eva Perón Foundation, championed women's suffrage in Argentina, and founded and ran the nation's first large-scale female political party, the Female Peronist Party. In 1951, Eva Perón accepted the Peronist nomination for the office of Vice President of Argentina. In this bid, she received great support from the Peronist political base, low-income and working class Argentines who were referred to as descamisados or...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=51584 ...
