Old myths die hard.
James Spada took an old myth and turned it into this shoddy book. It's bascially a trash, rehash of stories of the relationship between Judy and Liza that were not true to begin with.

Save your money and buy "Judy" by Gerold Frank, amongst a few others on Judy Garland. 1 star maybe for the pictures, but the good pictures do not compensate for a lying text.

A book of talent, talent, talent
A truly wonderful, fact-filled book, dealing with the relationship between a mother and daughter, who just happened to be the superstars of their generations. I've kept this book all these years, having been publishedoriginally in 1983, and occasionally pull it from the shelf, relax andperuse its pictures and chapters. I highly recommend the book. "Imagining Liza" is an amazing look into the mind of a devoted fan.A longtime Liza fan myself, I felt as if Fauvre understood just how I felt.After reading the memoir, I bought copies for friends.Fauvre's spirited attemts to meet Liza provided exciting and entertaining reading.Her insights into the reasons for her fascination with Liza can be helpful to one trying to develop self knowledge.The author gives a wonderful description of Liza off stage, her appearance and personality.I felt as if I was actually in the room during their meetings.Any fan of Liza will love this book, and anyone who has strived for a seemingly impossible dream will be inspired by the author's ultimate success.

A Loathsome book -- truly terrible
Being a fan of Liza I grabbed the book off the shelf without my usual once over -- had I done that I would have noticed the absolute lack of an index and bibliography, a dead giveaway that the book is the work of a hack -- Liza is one of the greatest stars of the 20th century and certainly deserves better than this sorry piece of trash -- My God, the woman gave one of the great film performances in Cabaret, and Freedland skims over the entire making of the film and the reviews Liza received -- a loathsome book, one of the worst bios I have read -- it will take a place in our washroom, and not for reading -- the pages will be put to good use in there. ...
