Very Little Content, Very Fluffy Writing
I'm so disappointed in this book.Overall, it's like a bad teenage research paper.There's about 5 pages of content stretched into 138 pages of fluff.Admittedly, it has a narrow focus, but the author spends endlesss paragraphs talking about the weather and 'Rock-N-Roll lightning' striking instead of actually giving us insight into the people involved.

The author claims to have interviewed dozens of persons there that day but confines his narrative primarily to imagining how Paul and John felt.It would have been much better to just relate different persons observations about what they saw and remembered that day with a bit of narrative in between.

A representative example of the fluff throughout this book from page 102, "Like a dexterous pickpocket, a passing cloud steals the sun from the long gray vest of the sky.The cloud edge is black frosted.The shadows of the Liverpool field become more ill defined.It's a summer evening of deepening dampness.The humidity hangs in a dim blue haze.A sudden breeze whispers a warning of whimsical weather."

If you want to read a book of such poetry with a wee bit of Beatles info, then buy this book.

I own about 320 books about the Beatles, and this book is in my top 5 favorites.Why?It is a very unusual Beatle-related book.This book took years to research and it pays off.I felt like I had relived the day that they actually met.It is just fascinating to read as the hours count down to the very moment that the two meet at the fete.
Please remember:This book is just about one small slice of Beatle lore.
If you have all the esential Beatle books, then this will be a nice variation for you.

I'm Speechless
Utter waste of time. The fact that this is out of print and it's being sold for 1 cent, is testimony enough. The cover photo is really nice though. I removed it before I usedthe book for what it was really meant for....to house train my dog. And Amazon, there should be an option to give a book no stars. This piece of **** doesn't even deserve one star. I feel bad about that.

Waste of Time
There are so many more books on the market that tell a more interesting and worthwhile story about Macca. One part of this book is almost a direct rip-off of Francie Schwartz's book Body Count (She was Macca's girl in 1968).A much better story of her intense time spent during the White Album sessions and a very close look at the man with the other lads.

Interesting read
I found this book to be a very interesting account of Paul's life, while he was a Beatle, and later as a Wing.Having never read a book previously about Paul, I found it quite fascinating, though hard core fans may findthat it does trash Paul and Linda to some extent.All in all, though, Idid enjoy it and would recommend it.

Beware
Suggestion.....if you are a McCartney or Beatles fan, do not buy this book. Had I not loved Paul and his music beforehand, I would hate him after reading this book. Chet Flippo is a Flippo. He trashes Paul completely,showing only his worst sides. Lots of it isn't true.

Writers and journalists who have obvious scorn for their subject can't be objective. One again, another baised "McCartney hater" succumbs. lacking...
There are some beautiful shots in Linda McCartney's Sun Prints. The ancient printing technique often results in photos with a beautiful blue tone, sometimes creating a haunting feeling. While mostly aesthetically pleasing, a lot of the photographic subjects are uninteresting, leaving me wanting more.

Photography
I was really expecting a little more from this book. I love Linda McCartney & I collect most of her publications. I inferred from the picture of her son on the cover that this was more of a personal collection - it was not, it is professional. I was looking for something more reflective of her life & I didn't get that from this book. Alot of the pictures are just snapshots of "things" - a few family shots of Uncle Albert & Auntie Gin, which is kind of cute. Maybe/hopefully Paul will release more of her works in the future, I would definitely purchase.

every photo a story
Sun printing relies on natural sunlight to produce an image on paper brushed with a mixture of minerals. Linda's sunprints have a mystical & elusive quality & in this modern woman's perspective we see combinations of spontaneous poses with still backgrounds; overlays & tonal changes in cyan & sepia.

Such gently detailed, whimsical & earthy sights of a boy print or an amarylis; a castle reflected in its watery moat; a terrace balustrade casting sunny shadows upon snow; a stalwart cactus in a desert or a triad of lanterns on a London bridge; of lively faces & ancient hands; of birds & beaches & seasons' abundance. Meditative, heart-warming, peaceable pictures, some simply swatches of brush strokes offering glimpses of what her eyes had seen.

Linda McCartney's photographs always have stories to tell & make me want to talk about them!

Painting with Light
To photograph well is to paint with light:to see what the fall of light on common or uncommon subjects can reveal, and then to capture that image.Linda McCartney photographed mostly by natural light, and her effort to find a way of developing images in the simplest and most natural way fit in with her basic philosophy of life.I feel sure she was pleased with the notion of making what she called a "strong image" (a good "contrasty" photograph) with the sun's light, and then developing it with sunlight and non-toxic chemicals. At the beginning of her career, she photographed rock musicians with unusual insight--she captured the essential child in some of them:the wicked little girl in Janis Joplin, and the sweet, shy boy in Jimi Hendrix. By the time she was experimenting with the process described and illustrated in this book, she was able to photograph people with the same insight she had always had and to find a sort of classic beauty in the commonest household scenes and landscapes.There are a number of striking photographs here, all enhanced by the "limitations" of the developing method.Photos of her son James, at about the age of ten or eleven, reveal a sturdy elf who glows from within. Her portraits of famous and anonymous people capture their presences with enormous respect, tenderness, and some amusement. One of my favorite juxtapositions places a serious dog named Merdock opposite a shot of her husband peering through a magnifying glass.The dog has much more dignity. This is a book of photographs by a master of her art--she captures a rainbow of insights in earthy browns and true blues.I bought this book second hand for more than twice the price of the new edition.We are fortunate to have a new edition, and, if we like photography at all, real stupid not to buy it right now. ... Awesome.Just awesome.
An indispensible reference for those Beatleologists who tend to think their artistry didn't end with their breakup.As stated in a previous review, it's very well written, engaging, and oh yes, thorough.

If you're looking for a basic discography, then I suggest looking elsewhere.But if you need details on every possible recording made by the ex-Fabs during the remainder of the 20th Century, then this is the book.
