Difficult, but thought provoking
This is one of the two books that we use for AP Calculus A/B and i find that it is a pretty decent textbook. We use the older second edition, but I have scanned through this edition and it seems to be pretty similar. I do agree that the examples do not completely reflect the difficulty of the problems, but this can also be viewed positively because it forces you to apply the concepts to in more complex ways and this really maked you to understand the topic in depth. I also like that for most concepts, they give both abstract and "number" examples and practice problems. In addition to this book, we also use the Stewart Calculus book for some simpler practice, or when alot of repetitive problams work better. In all, I would give this a 4- star rating if possible, because more simple problems would add to the book. Also, this book is not good to learn from on your own so a poor teacher will compound the problems mentioned above. If you have a good teacher, though, this book is for the most part good.

Doesn't have much examples that relate to the assignments in the chapters. Does have some good examples to do as well.

Calculus info
book is not bad. If you have trouble understanding math, I would suggest you get the "single variable calculus, 6th edition" the 6th Edition has much better explanations. And more pictures :D

Regarding Kindle Edition Only...
Faculty please note: the Kindle edition has typographical problems. Some characters appear to be dropped. Also, unknowns are never emphasized (italicized) and very often - especially with $t$ for some reason - they are run into the succeeding word. Most of this can be worked out fine by a reader who is comfortable with the material - but isn't the primary audience for a textbook students who by definition are NOT comfortable with the material? All in all, it's a appalling job of converting a text book that costs over $90 to download (and so won't cut into their profit margin with resales). I will have to think twice about buying a Kindle book from Wiley again. About the book itself, as content, I have no complaints, so this bad review rests squarely on the production staff. Oh, and by the way, Wiley: if Amazon can take a book off my Kindle, you can get them to update it with a fixed version. Do it, and I'll happily pull this review.

Get Help Elsewhere
This solutions manual is pretty much a waste of money (just like the textbook this is used for). For some reason, it answers every OTHER odd number. Basically answering problems 1, 5, 9, and so on. Other times, it actually skips some of those numbers!

The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is the fact that the problems the solution's manual does answer actually did help a little. Unfortunaly, it can be wrong once in a while, as my teacher can contest.

Don't waste your money on this unless you can find it for at most, a third of the price. Even then, the frustration probably still isn't worth it.

Calculus: Student Confusion Manual
This "solutions manual" only offers answers for every fourth question.The most painful part is that the so-called solutions are merely the answers from the back of the text book put into complete sentences; there is NO additional instruction.

Entertaining Military Jargon
SETTING/TIME FRAM
Razor's Edge is a bit dated at this point, set in 1997 after the first Gulf War, before the second.

SETUP
Sadam Hussain has been acting out, shotting down US/UN patrol flights agreed to in Iraq's surrender treaty. Suddenly, a mysterious new weapon is cutting down aircraft without warning.It is quickly discovered that the weapon is a high energy laser.

COMMENTS
The first few chapters introduce at least 2 dozen characters, making them impossible to remember.Fortunately, most are never heard from again, and none are really significant to the story.Fortunately, Brown makes no attempt to flesh out these non-entities with "human interests"---which inevitably fails in novels of this kind.

The basic (silly) premise is that "Dreamland"---the super secret aircraft development facility in Nevada, also has a private commando arm of its own.

There is plenty of action, and endless military jargon, sure to delight any teenage boy (up to 40 years old) and bore any woman out of her skin.

Fortunately, there is no plot to get in the way of the action and jargon.Pilots get shot down and rescued, and of course the laser gets destroyed.That's about it.

CONCLUSION
The opposite of a dramatic mystery where the reader has to strain to remember characters and plot details.A very entertaining read which places no demands on the reader whatsoever.

Fast paced and action full....
is what this book is all about.I had a very hard time putting it down and could not wait to pick it up again.This is the 17th book of Brown's that I have read.To you first time readers of Dale Brown my suggestion is read his earlier books first because they are like a soap opera and it will be much easier to follow and enjoy.His books are not outstanding but they are always entertaining.In fact this book is between good and very good.

This is your typical hero and heroine Dreamland book.All the usual suspects, Zen, Dog, Danny, etc.Iraq is knocking our planes out of the sky.First they have to determine what is knocking out our planes.It turns our to be a lazar which does not come up on their sophisticated radar.Now they to locate it and then they go in and bomb from the air and attack by the ground.Normal stuff for Dale Brown but it keeps an action junkie like me interested.

All in all I enjoyed it and was entertained again by Dale Brown.

this is just another outsatnding audio book if you are in to The dreamland books I just wish there were moreof them.

Great Action But . . .
I made it through the first Dreamland novel due to fast paced, well described aerial combat, an offering of terrific high tech weaponry, good solid plot, and for the most part, interesting characterization; however, by the end of book one I was praying for the slow horrible death of Jeff "Zen" Stockard.A guy who is not only a main character, a romantic lead, but, I think, one of the heroes of the series. Who also happens to be a Class A Schmuck.

We are told Zen was an ace pilot, then a crash causes him to become wheelchair bound.Not a bad concept, could have made for some excellent twists. And indeed, in the beginning of the first book, the anguish/anger/mistrust/fear that Zen illustrated felt real. However, after reading 2/3 of the book I was getting just a tad grumpy that Zen was still piloting the pity pot plane. And his engine was in full whine mode.Well, I finished the book. Forgave the writer. Bought the 2nd Dreamland book.

Guess what? Pain-in-the-ass Zen is still around - kinda like the whine of that mosquito in the middle of the night that won't let you sleep. He detracts from the book.He has caused me to forego the rest of the Dreamland books. A damn shame.

Brown Bores with Rich Military Details, Poor Characters
This is a review of the book on tape. The plot was solid and brought with it a sense of authenticity, especially in terms of how problems arose and were solved. To a degree the details about military hardware were fascinating, but they soon overran the book and distracted from the characters. There was only one character who truly mattered, and he was a side-show for most of the novel. The rest of the book was filled with people whose only purpose seemed to be populating the chain of command or demonstrating prowess under fire. A good example of this is Dog. He is some sort of Colonel, and his only role is to talk to the Whiplash team, pace around the room, and then relay the information to some General. Then he gets back on the phone with Whiplash. For all I know this type of exchange may be a normal part of military operations, but its appearance not once but several times in this novel was baffling. Ironically the character's name was well-suited to his part. As my sarcastic girlfriend fake-narrated: "Dog paced around the room and pissed on the carpet."

The cheesiest line of the book: "If the pilot was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen - and she was - then she was second."

A sub, A nuke, A tidal wave and an exciting story
Just finished listening to an exciting and dramatic book by Patrick Robinson entitled Scimitar SL2. Combine a rogue nuclear submarine, nuclear missles and a plan to distroy the world by massive tidal waves and you have a really interesting story! Throw in some politics and alot of military hardware and this is a can't-stop-listening-too novel.

I listened to the abridged version of about 6 hours. Very well read and solid abridgement. Needless to say, I recommend this one!

Fantastic and rivetting
This is an awesome conclusion to Barracuda 945. If you are one to enjoy fiction based on reality without questioning factual integrity, then you'll love this book. I loved the book and listened to the audio-book as well. I rate it a 4 but give the prequel a 5 star.

Part II of Baracuda 945 - Snoozer
This takes over from where Barracuda 945 left off, sinking. Hey, we're going to blow you up, guess where. We'll even give you clues so you can catch us. DUH! Oh Patrick, you failed miserably with these last two writings. A big disappointment. Way too much emphasis on describing the characters, their idiosyncrasies, moods, and what they're frickin eating. I want action. If I want to read about food I'd buy a cook book. Change brands of that Scotch Whiskey, Patrick, and go back to your old one and write like you once did, with conviction. Hopefully I'll see it in Hunter Killer.

Worse than terrible
I've been a fan of political and military-oriented thrillers for years, and have never read such a poorly written book as this one.Mr. Robinson is totally out of his element writing on the inner workings of the US government and military.However, what he lacks in actual knowledge, he makes up for with terrible writing.

The premise of this book is valid, but his execution of the story is laughable.Ironically enough, his characters laugh at almost everything, especially at the wrong time.It's as if Mr. Robinson accidentally set out to write a book for the cricket and tea crowd.

It's painfully clear that he did little research to prepare for this novel.The characters are shallow, poorly constructed, or outright unbelievable.Their motivations make no sense.Oh yes, and let's not forget the nonsense "liberal democrats will destroy everything we know and love" plot line.

It really is a waste of money
Absolute waste of money.I found, while using this, that it was a waste of time as well (after looking for a question to see it was not in this book or that it did not explain anything or break down any solutions step-by-step like most solutions manuals).This manual only answers every other odd question (so, for example, 1,5,9,13,etc.) and, half the time, it is just an answer which was already in the textbook.There are no explanations to many of the answers at all.When there actually is an explanation, it is very poorly written and does no good at all.I have never seen such an obvious move to get your money without a text actually having anything of value in it.

This solutions manual is like no other.It does not explain solutions to the odd numbered questions.There is no system for what it does explain.Some things are just answers.I am sorry I bothered with it.

Waste of Money
This book only covers the odd numbered problems that are already in the back of the text book. It doesn't even go into much detail on how to solve them. A total waste of money!

So-So Sequel
Higgins brings back Steiner and Devlin in a plot very similar to the original, The Eagle Has Landed. There is still some magic but it is not as taut as the original. The only intrigue is what will happen at the end if the new mission is successful, basically who will pay for misdeeds, and that is explained rather unenthusiastically. Basically, Devlin is up to his old charming tricks and Steiner is present with ramrod professionalism. More for rabid fans of Higgins and these particular characters - still fun though.

Good story well told but poorly written
Obviously written to cash in on the success of the 'Landed' book and movie, 'The Eagle Has Flown' gives the impression it was tossed off in a spare afternoon and not even re-read before being bundled off to the publisher.

The plot is good and the telling taut and sparse, but I caught myself groaning aloud at quite a few points. There's the stereotypical down-on-his-fortune English squire who speaks without pronouns or articles, and the stereotypical German officers who are always saying 'My dear fellow'.

Then there's the 'Yes, well' syndrome: 'Yes, well, we mustn't...' 'Yes, well, there's a war on...' 'Yes, well, time's important...' Every character has four or five 'Yes,well' moments.

And finally there's the 'Ah, there you are' syndrome. Whenever someone is ushered into someone's presence they are always greeted with 'Ah, there you are.' The Brits say it, the Irish say it - even Hitler says it.

Higgins is one of the finest writers in the genre but these things point to an almost unbelievable laziness of style - the sort of things for which an editor would consign a first-time writer's manuscript to the rubbish bin.

A fine tale to read on a spare Sunday afternoon - because that's no doubt when it was written.

The Eagle has Flown
At best "The Eagle has Flown" is a sad follow up to it predecessor, "The Eagle has Landed".Being an author, Higgins can and somehow does bring Steiner back from the dead to play an impotant role in this novel.It tends to make the plot more interesting, the book more readable, but the plot more questionable.

There are enough incident and happenings to warrant kudos for Higgins' inate ability to create a story in a way which commands your attention and respect.The book in readable but not imposing.

Prison break
In this historical sequel to "The Eagle Has Landed", the Nazis plot the escape of an hired assassin from a British prison who, was sent to kill Churchill.

Most of the book concentrates on the German side and the Irishman who is the organizer of the escape.It is a quick and suspenseful read, and with only one major twist, it can be followed easily.Not quite as good as "Eagle Landed".

Higgins has a knack for capturing the personality of the German and swaying sympathy to the flawed characters.
