Well, this series won't tell you, but it will tell you all about the lives of their sidekicks-the superheroes-in-training who always get stuck doing the laundry and the dishes. 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is really funny(a review by an 8 yr old)
(This review is being written by my 8 year old son with my typing help)

I think it is funny because the house is flying and Pumpkin Pete is afraid of store bought pumpkin pie. This is my favorite Sidekick book so far.I have read all of them.

It is funny because Pumpkin Pete was mad because he couldn't watch cable TV while the house was flying.I think the end is cool because you get to know who The Strike is.

I think you should buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lures Kids Away Ffrom Television
"Speedy" (everyone has a nickname) is our narrator on this interesting, fantastical ride he calls his life. The style of writing is very similar to the Rugrats, a show on which both writers have worked. It has a very Nickelodeon-esque pace with flying donuts and evil characters in the form of teenage babysitters who try to dominate the smaller kids. It is one way to lure the TV generation away from the tube and into a book with similar characters whose lives are as magical as the imagination of an 8-year-old child. There is a moral to the story, and sometimes the best way to "get it" is with humor and a push of the imagination.

MYTHQUEST is one of my all-time favourite PBS series -- and I think it will remain so.In this series, an evil god has captured the father of two intelligent, down-to-earth teens. They go through their father's computer/myth-searcher, to different eras and through different mythologies, to find him.Viewers learn of various countries' myths -- from Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome, to the still very-much alive Shinto myth of the Ice Lady -- in an easy-to understand and very exciting way.Throw in the computer/myth-seeker, and you also have a hint of science fiction and the future!

In this episode, the daughter, (crippled in an accident, but able to run about freely inside the world of the computer/myth seeker), becomes a Native American Princess. It's a great episode....but would be far more enjoyable if this could be SEEN in a DVD format -- along with every other episode! ... For the DJ, see Andy Hunter° . Andy Hunter Andrew "Andy" Hunter is a fictional character from the BBC soap opera EastEnders , played by Michael Higgs . Creation and development Higgs auditioned for the role in April 2003 and won the part of EastEnders' new "bad guy", who made his first appearance in July that year as a member of the gangster organisation known as "The Firm". Higgs stated that he was happy to play a villain: "They say that the devil has the best tunes, but the main thing is that the character's fully-rounded. With the so-called good guys and bad guys, they're not just good or just bad. There's a dynamic, and that's always the interesting thing to find - where's the weakness? You flesh it out and make them an interesting person." In the heirarchy of the Firm, Andy's character was a subordinate to Jack Dalton (Hywel Bennett ), but was appointed leader of the organisation for a brief time following Dalton's murder. Higgs described the differences between Andy and Dalton's leadership styles: "He's new blood, but he has a completely different sensibility about how the gang operates. Jack Dalton was quite old school. If you upset him you'd get your knee-caps broken or get killed. I think Andy plays more of a psychological game - information is power for him." Discussing Andy's relationship with Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace ), Higgs said, "I think you do see a soft side of him with Kat. He's totally in love with her, which makes him very vulnerable. He's been married before, but the marriage didn't work out. You get the sense that there's some hurt there, some pain that's stopped him becoming in... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars In my top ten!
This book was absolutely hilarous. It captured the life of a 11 year old genius surrounded by his family of idiots. Including the dimwitted Reese. The overbearing screaming Lois. The somewhat dumb dad named Hal who's just a bumbling big kid at heart. The cute(or so they say)little brother Dewey. The eldest brother Francis who attends military school after his reckless behavior in the past. And it all comes down to the kid with the IQ of 165! This book is all about the normal----did I say normal?--family of the Wilkersons.
[...]
So in a complete summary of MITM, This book is definitely in my top ten. 5 stars!

4-0 out of 5 stars Introducing you to the Unfair World of Malcom in the Middle
"Life is Unfair!" is a novelization by Tom Mason and Dan Danko of the first two episodes of the Fox television series "Malcolm in the Middle."The authors do a very nice job of taking that initial pair of teleplays for "The Pilot" (by series creator Linwood Boomer) and "Krelboyne Picnic" (by Michael Glouberman & Andrew Orenstein) and turning them into a seamless whole. Thus we are introduced to Malcolm, who is horrified to learn that he is not simply weird but a certifiable genius. This means being untimely ripped from his relatively normal classroom and being sent to the class for the "gifted" students, which is just a way of hiding the fact that everybody in the Krelboyne class is a nerd a freak or possibly both.Malcolm gets off to a bad start with his new classmates and the prospect of a talent show in front of all the parents does not make our hero any happier.Besides, we have not even mentioned Malcolm's parents and his brothers, who are all apparently conspiring to make things even worse.

There has also been a definite effort to clean-up things a bit for the juvenille reader in this first "Malcolm in the Middle" book. For example, we no longer have the litany of past offenses for which Francis was banished to the Marlin Academy in Alabama and Lois greets Ms. Miller wearing a bit more than she actually did in the pilot.Such things are to be expected I suppose. However, . . . I do . . . not think . . . that Stevie . . . ever spoke . . . in bursts . . . of only . . . one word . . . I think . . . he always . . . does two . . . words at . . . a time . . . Although I . . . may be . . . wrong about . . . that. Ultimately this book is an interesting trade off.On the one hand, Mason and Danko have provided a more realistic version of the television show, but on the other hand it is the manic zaniness of this collective of crazed individuals that makes the show so compelling (just think of the opening of the episode shown after the Super Bowl where Hal and Dewey try to get a spider out of the house only to succeed in pitching it out the front door and right into Lois's open mouth). However, there is really no way to capture such inspired lunacy on the printed page, which means the authors made the right choice. Then again, maybe the show has become more surreal as time goes bye and maybe this is something we must remember.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
Based on the "Pilot" and "Krelboyne Picnic" episodes, you can re-live both episodes just from reading the book, which is why i loved it! Experience the humilation and humor Malcolm goes through, just from reading the book! I am 14, and i love the series! (well maybe cuz im a big fan of the show but ya know...). The reading level is very easy, so it is a "kick-back-and-relax-while-you-read" kind of book. It is not confsuing so you don't have to think while you read. I'd recommend this book as well as the other books in the series. Definitley check out the "Water Park" book in the series. (#2) You can surely re-live that episode easily!! :)

5-0 out of 5 stars The funiest book EVER
I love to watch the show which is HILARIUS. So I got this book which is one-hundred times more hilarius. There was not one chapter where I wasn't laughing my head off. It was the funniest book I had ever read. If you buy this book I guarantee you will laugh just as much as me.

5-0 out of 5 stars HILARIOUS!
It was really funny. It had cool and funny moments just like the show! You so will not regret reading this book. Every moment is worth it, no dull moments! Check this book out!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!!!
My son is only 16 months but we read this book at least 3 times a day he loves it. He loves the rhyming and the trucks. It is a great series. As to the other peoples comments about the garbage truck being called a motormouth being sexist. I think they were just going for the fact that the garbage truck crunches trash all day like a mouth moving up and down. So I don't have a problem with it, and I'm a woman. So I would definitely recommend this book. Its great.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sexist, boring, pointless and unfortunately my kid loves it.
My son found "Meet Jack Truck" at the library a few months ago and it instantly became his favorite book.I agree with the preceeding reviewers who found it to be sexist. It really is.Also, the character of "Monster Truck Max" makes a thinly veiled reference to marijuana use when he brags about being a "pottyhead."Unfortunately, my toddler son loves this book, so in order to compensate for it's failings, I've started reading the part about Gabriella as "she loves to do math" instead of "she loves to talk."If your kid hasn't already seen these books, definitely don't get them started, there is so much great children's literature available that there is no reason tobuy this junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I have to agree with the previous reviewer who called "Garbage Truck Gabriella" sexist.I would also add racist. Why is the garbage truck the only Hispanic character?

My child is only 8 months old. I read it a few times thinking I could get over it, but it just constantly makes me cringe. I'm taking it away so he doesn't get attached to it and ask me to read it over and over. We're about as white as you can get, and it's tough enough to integrate good life lessons about diversity without things like that derailing my efforts.

Aside from that, I'd still call the book disappointing and even boring.I'm not familiar with the series, but as-is, this book is just kindof pointless.

2-0 out of 5 stars Truck Trouble
I was a little disappointed with this book.I felt that the characterization of the garbage truck Gabriella as a "motormouth" was more than a little sexist. She is pink and has a teddy bear hanging on her.Why can't a girl truck be just as tough as "Payloader Pete?"I also felt that the picture of "Trucktown" in the back, which is lacking Monster Truck Max, falls short. My boys want to know why he isn't shown. It is the details in children's books that make them stand out.Parents have to read these books over and over--we notice the lack of attention to detail. Also, given the targeted age group, the font is distracting and confusing to my children.All-in-all, this book falls short on many levels.

4-0 out of 5 stars Trucktown is on a roll
Jon Scieszka and company have created a terrific new book series with Trucktown. We already have "Smash! Crash!" and are anxiouly awaiting the next book in the series. In the meantime, "Who's that Truck?" has filled the void for my grandson; he loves identifying the trucks and associating them with the earlier book. There are lots of names to remember, so he goes over the various trucks and their jobs frequently.A good purchase - a great series for preK and K.

Hey, this is a fun little purchase if you're big into Avatar. There's a few juicy details regarding the life and styles of the different nations.
