The author speaks: The Metaphysical Police
Imagine my surprise seeing this pop up in the Amazon database some 15 years after it went out of print!

This was our first professional project. My artist partner, John Heebink, and I had a lot of fun doing this as I finished grad school back in 1990.

The market wasn't terribly good for B&W indies (is it ever?) but the book was a good resume builder and John and I soon moved on to bigger things.

John was soon drawing Nick Fury for Marvel.

Our letterer, Clem Robbins, became a leading letterer in the field!!!

I did a few more comics and then went into newspaper journalism and a string of other writing jobs. I wrote a number of comics articles for prozines such as Comic Book Marketplace and The Kirby Collector, which led to writing a Marvel-authorized book, "The Science of the X-Men".

Needless to say, I have a day job (web design).

Metacops was high concept humor. Mile-a-minute wackiness. We tried to do this at an adult level with a minimum of sexism and violence and a maximum of wit and historical info.

The few people who actually saw it liked it well enough. It was optioned for film.

Perhaps, one day, The Metaphysical Police will fix this timeline and become publishing successes. Who knows?
