This CD contains a series of positive affirmations created and narrated by Louise L. Hay. Affirmations are like seeds. It takes time for them to germinate, take root, and grow. Life-changing and soul-satisfying benefits are possible by using this tape with determination and consistency. We recommend that you listen to this tape twice a day for at least 30 days. You can easily do this while you relax, work, do your chores, or sleep. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT SO IMPRESSED
I love Louise Hay and was excited to try this cd.I am very disappointed-I have been using it for over three weeks and feel just as stressed as I did before using it---bummed because I expected it to really work-

4-0 out of 5 stars like the betty crocker of positive thinking
i would have a tendency to rate all of Hays books as a 3 due the the simplistic nature of them... however, the messages are a 5, so in simple math... she gets a 4.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This CD provides you the opportunity to release anger and resentment stored in your mind and heart. You bring peace and joy to your life once you allow yourself to release old memories and hurts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
Great to receive product at a great price.

Thank You!Lynn

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as others
I listened to a tape of Louise Hay's about fear from the library and it was so great so I ordered this. But this one is annoying to listen to because instead of the affirmations saying "I am safe" etc, it says "I am safe. You are safe." because Louise Hay says the affirmation that you are supposed to hear and then she also says the subliminal message that you usually don't hear. The other track just has music with the subliminal message under it. But there isn't any track that has just the affirmations (I am safe) with the subliminal part (you are safe) hidden. It is distracting to hear "I am safe. You are safe." I don't know why they did it this way. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars admirable prose
Tracks
This my first book from Louise Erdrich. The setting is North Dakota and the timing of the story is early 20th century. People in the story are mostly Indians living on reservations. The main characters are Nanapush - an elderly wise man, Fleur - an odd character who was supposed to be a witch and Pauline - a mixed bred woman undergoing penance in a nunnery. The story is told from multiple first person points of view, alternated by Nanapush and Pauline. There are other characters like Kashpaw, Morriseys, Margaret (Kashpaw's mother).
Fleur is supposed to have an influence on the water monster living in the lake Machimmanito. This book depicts the struggle of people to make a living in harsh winter, trying to pay taxes to keep their land, Indian folklore, politics and cultural clashes, internal feud between two clans - Pillagers and Morriseys.
The narrative voice for both Nanapush and Pauline is different but in some chapters Nanapush is telling the story to someone and I couldn't figure out until few pages later on that Nannnapush is telling the story to Lulu. Erdrich has succeeded in building interesting characters. I don't recall I had come for a long time such a masterly prose. Almost every sentence is a gem. How does Erdrich do it?
But if you read this book and I strongly recommend you do, you need to keep the dictionary nearby. I had problem understanding the meaning of some of the words she used.
I am sure to read her next book `Love Medicine.'

2-0 out of 5 stars 2nd order never came
I did not receive the other book that I also ordered by the same author, Louise Erdrich. I did pay for it on my credit card. It has a long title, something like "The Last Miracles at ..." Please let me know when or if it is coming.I really want that book. thanks, Sr. Mary Rogers

1-0 out of 5 stars Painful, painful, painful
I appreciate an author's attempt at using creative narratives and vivid imagery, but only in small doses and when it serves to enhance the story. The problem with Tracks is that the narrative and imagery don't enhance the story. Instead, they confuse it and drag it down, slowing down the pace and making me wonder if it isn't just an attempt to flesh out what should really be a short story.Sometimes, more is just more, not better.I kept wishing Erdrich would stop playing with words and just tell the stupid story and get it over with. Just another great example of how Fiction has lost sight of storytelling in favor of novels that are so bogged down under the weight of their prose that they fail to engage readers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
I very seldom not finish reading a book but I could not take more than half of this book.It rambled on - jumped all around - very confusing.Maybe it was me or the mood I was in - my apologies to those of you who liked it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Expected
I had to read Love Medicine by Erdrich for my freshman year lit. class in college and loved it - I had never read anything about Indians before (even though I have Indian Heritage) and was captured by it and loved it - I made an A!
Years later - I was still thinking about how great Love Medicine was so I picked up Tracks and was expecting another great read... I did not enjoy this near as much - I did manage to finish the book (it got better midway through) but I would skip this read if I had to do it all over again. The stories were fascinating, but it seemed to drag on and on with no real ending. It left me feeling like I had wasted my time and ultimately was unsatisfied. It defiantly didn't quench my literary thirst...

Product Description
"[In this] story of a young Ojibwa girl, Omakayas, living on an island in Lake Superior around 1847, Louise Erdrich is reversing the narrative perspective used in most children's stories about nineteenth-century Native Americans. Instead of looking out at 'them' as dangers or curiosities, Erdrich, drawing on her family's history, wants to tell about 'us', from the inside. The Birchbark House establishes its own ground, in the vicinity of Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'Little House' books." --The New York Times Book ReviewAmazon.com Review
Nineteenth-century American pioneer life was introduced to thousands ofyoung readers by Laura Ingalls Wilder's beloved Little House books. With The Birchbark House, award-winning author Louise Erdrich'sfirst novel for young readers, this same slice of history is seen throughthe eyes of the spirited, 7-year-old Ojibwa girl Omakayas, or LittleFrog, so named because her first step was a hop. The sole survivor of asmallpox epidemic on Spirit Island, Omakayas, then only a baby girl, wasrescued by a fearless woman named Tallow and welcomed into an Ojibwa familyon Lake Superior's Madeline Island, the Island of the Golden-BreastedWoodpecker. We follow Omakayas and her adopted family through a cycle offour seasons in 1847, including the winter, when a historically documentedoutbreak of smallpox overtook the island.

Readers will be riveted by the daily life of this Native American family,in which tanning moose hides, picking berries, and scaring crows from thecornfield are as commonplace as encounters with bear cubs and firesideghost stories. Erdrich--a member of the Turtle Mountain Band ofOjibwa--spoke to Ojibwa elders about the spirit and significance ofMadeline Island, read letters from travelers, and even spent time with herown children on the island, observing their reactions to woods, stones, crayfish, bear, and deer. The author's softly hewn pencil drawings infuselife and authenticity to her poetic, exquisitely wrought narrative.Omakayas is an intense, strong, likable character to whom young readerswill fully relate--from her mixed emotions about her siblings, to herdiscovery of her unique talents, to her devotion to her pet crow Andeg, toher budding understanding of death, life, and her role in the naturalworld. We look forward to reading more about this brave, intuitivegirl--and wholeheartedly welcome Erdrich's future series to the canon ofchildren's classics. (Ages 9 and older) --Karin Snelson ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Winning characters, but not much happens
Somewhere in Birchbark House there is a good book trying to get out. Maybe that's unfair, but I like pithy, and this book is anything but.

Omakayas is a seven-year-old girl adopted at about age two when her birth people all die of smallpox. She lives with the Ojibwa tribe in Minnesota in 1847. It's not clear to me whether her birth people were Ojibwa, too. The book is a year in the life of the people, including a smallpox epidemic, and a brutal winter that nearly causes them to starve. Omakayas apparently has a special affinity for bears and a talent for healing, possibly the ability to understand the spirits of the earth.

Not much happens beyond disease and hunger. I generally like books with little plot, but this feels too free-form to me -- as if Erdrich just wanted to fictionalize her research into quotidian Ojibwa life. Still, at times it won me over. The characters, in particular her perky little brother, Pinch, were realistic.

5-0 out of 5 stars you'll love the suspense
The Birch Bark House written by Louise Erdrich was an excellent read. The main character is Omakays, or Little Frog; she has two brothers Neewo, and Little Pinch who later is called Big Pinch and her sister Angeline. She faces many challenges for a young girl of seven winters, including the deadly small pox, who she really is, severe hunger, and loss of ones she loves. The setting is on an island on Lake Superior, home to the Anishinabe, approximately 1847.

I enjoyed this book because it uses precise details of events that happen to Little Frog and her family during that year. For example small pox "It was hearing of his death in hushed tones, though, the next day, she would always recall. The report of it. For the horror flooded swiftly from house to house, lodge to lodge. He died of small pox"(pg 1). I also enjoyed this book because it was a real page turner I found that I could not stop reading chapter after chapter no matter what time it was, or if I had to do something. For example, in chapter 10 The Visitor, I just had to read so I would know what happened after the smallpox outbreak. Something that could have been done a little better by the author was the setting. It could have been more precise, for example when Little Frog met her "bear brothers" I really didn't understand where she was, other than somewhere in the woods looking for little red heartberries. Other than that simple flaw The Birch Bark House was an awesome read. Katrina b

4-0 out of 5 stars Birchbark House
This book was a great journey through a young Native American Girls life. This story takes us through the tough and scary times of a Native American culture. Children would be able to use this to relate the cultures of the past that were in Michigan to the cultures that we have here today. Learning of her struggles will allow students to sympathies with Omakyas. Children back then are not so much different today. We still go through trials and hardship. This would be a great book to read a loud and discuss the similarities and differences from students own lives. The day-to-day life of this little girl was filled with work tanning hides, gather berries and a lot more. Even though it is fiction, it still carries meaning and certain situations did happen in the Native American culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Reading by Just About Anyone
I thoroughly enjoyed this sometimes light and sometimes serious story about a little girl growing up in the great lakes region with her adoptive family in the 1800s.The illustrations add a lot to the story, as do occasional lessons in Ojibwe terms that are commonly used by the characters. Every character in the extended family is distinct and interesting - including some significant animals in the woods.

This would be an excellent read-aloud book for ages 6 and up, and good reading material for anyone 9 or older.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read for adults too!
I've passed this book to my adult friends and family, and all agree it is a 'wonderfilled' book.Very descriptive of Native Americans life.Interesting time frames, smallpox and French traders, but mostly the story of a Native family. It also captures the pain of loss, the helplessness of people facing their future. My so cool 28 year old nephew admits to 'crying his eyes out'.I wondered if it would be too sad for kids, but the reviews I read don't seem to mention it. Perhaps Erdrich's mastery is such that those experienced with loss, who sympathize with the Native American plight will weep, the innocent will be shielded by their youth.
A great story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a graduate
I chose this book with a unique intent. Rather than considering a child, I bought it for a female who has just graduated from law school. I can see it being appropriate for any graduate (but perhaps a girl) in place of the predictable choice, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"
In this story the reader will identify with the character, who is assessing the future and regarding it as another place up ahead. It's a big question mark, and she wonders if it's safe to enter, and if she'll be essentially the same there, or will things be so different she will have to drastically adapt? In her uncertainty, she finally recalls her own essence and draws on the foundation of who she knows herself to be: ( "Will there be dragons? Will they be really fierce? Do you know how to tame dragons? I do. You look them right in the eye and count to ten, then they just fly away.") All of this is accomplished with very simple language, portraying deeper concepts.
In the end, she knows she must go "there", and with her own self-talk, becomes resolute to make the journey. A victory she pulled right from her own gut.
I myself am a children's book illustrator so I have a very finicky eye about book images. I think these pictures were well done. Mostly, I loved the message for a young adult reader who feels uncertain about their future. Consider it for your graduate....I'd like to start a trend with this story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautifully-illustrated, magical book
This is a beautifully-illustrated book that has a little girl with a rather large bag who keeps asking "There" questions - "When will I get there?", "Will it take long to get there?", "Will I never say anything silly again?" etc. The little girl journeys through wondrous landscapes, portrayed in gorgeous illustrations. The illustrations are the main attraction in the book, and the simple text enables the reader and young listener/reader to take in the pictures, whilst reflecting on what is really being conveyed in the pictures. It is great for conveying the message of living in the moment, something that may be a bit hard for little ones. It is definitely one of those understated, quiet, reflective reads.

4-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read nd a good start to the Silk and Scandal series.
I've never read Louise Allen before and I was pleasantly surprised. Her voice makes it easy to sink into the book and her characterizations are fully-realized without page after page of introspection. Nell is a sweet and industrious heroine who is only looking to make a living while she dreams impossible dreams in her shabby one-room home. Marcus is a take-charge hero who has a tendency to jump to conclusions and they're invariably wrong. So the question is, will he see the error of his ways in time for a happy ending? Since it's a romance I think you can figure that part out...

1-0 out of 5 stars Reader's Digest Niveau

This book is not in the slighest bit scientific. So called facts are not referenced. The reader gets no idea where the author's ideas come from: for example, whether they are personal observations of children, whether they are from secondary sources. Very outdated ideas of sex and sexuality -- goes so far as to posit a century of "feminist" literature against "common sense".
Reading level is about Grade 6.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of what an eight year old is like!
This book serves as a great tool for me in raising my children! It provides a great assessment as to what I can expect from my children, and explains the reasoning for some of the issues that go on with their behavior. I wish more adults in the education profession and politics would use the information provided in this book in an effort to get a better perspective on what it's like to be a child of eight.Particularly as we continue to hold our children more and more accountable for reaching such rigorous education standards.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for all parents ...
I recommend these books (Your ONE Year Old, Your TWO Year Old, Your THREE Year Old, Your FOUR Year Old, Your FIVE Year Old, Your SIX Year Old, Your SEVEN Year Old, Your EIGHT Year Old, Your NINE Year Old, Your TEN-to-FOURTEEN Year Old.These books were writtten by Louise Bates Ames, PhD, Fances L. Ilg, MD and Sidney M. Baker MD of the Gesell Institute of Human Development. They are NOT a "how to" book for parents -- but rather provide a perspective of life from the child's various ages.I found the books to be of such value that I purchase the entire series for new parents.Somehow I forgot to purchase these books for my niece when she started her family. She expressed some concerns about her seven year old son's behavior (that I knew from experience to be that typical of seven year olds).I purchased the books from the series that will help my niece from here on.She LOVES them!I have a feeling she will use them and pass them along to other parents. My original set are part of my permanent library.I highly recommend these books for your permanent library as well!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hits the nail on the head
This series of books, and in particular this book, hits the nail on the head with childhood behavior at various ages, this book being of course about 8 year olds.As a parent i am sure we have all wondered "is that normal"?Well this book gives you insight into what is "normal" at eight. That said it also gives tips on how to deal with the child's emotions and discipline at that specific age.My wife and i love this book series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good basics
These books are kinda old. The pictures are old, but the ideas and the gist of it are timeless. The material inside does give you insight into what your child is thinking and/or feeling but you feel like you have jumped into a time warp. If you can get passed that, you can glean a lot of information from these books at all ages and stages. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful
A must have for anyone concerned about the influence of the words you speak everyday and their impact

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely brilliant
The power of words often reflect the power of our thoughts.

I've been a long-time fan of Louise Hay, and this CD is such an excellent tool for becoming aware of our thoughts and words and how we're impacting our world with these things.

For example, "if we belittle ourselves, life will mean very little to us."

This CD is based on a lecture-series Louise gives, and it's so incredibly helpful.

"It's very easy to blame them (the famous 'them')... but if we do that, we stay stuck."

Every single sentence is like a gem of insight, and Louise talks about her own growth and insights as she learned to change her life by changing her thoughts. And I think that's what has been most helpful to me, hearing how she works through this process of changing her mind (quite literally), moving away from rigid old beliefs into a belief of love and abundance and self-support and self-esteem.

Begin the adventure of HOW to change your thinking and how your thoughts and words affect yourself and your world.

I have to say that as a Christian, I don't agree with some of her beliefs, like Reincarnation, or that you give yourself cancer, (doesn't make much sense when a very young child is stricken with cancer), though I do believe you can make yourself sick with stress or better with laughter (good endorphins).Louise Hay was a sexually abused child that developed cancer so I can see where she made that correlation.Actually, many of her beliefs are based on bible teachings.

I think it would be a shame not to glean the very useful and helpful information about the power of positive thinking and just how powerful our words are.

I love Louise Hay!!!I think she has a powerful gift to give to most everyone. She has taught me how to forgive and love myself and trust others. This is a great book/cd to get. ... Read more

Product Description
In this landmark biography, Jane Addams becomes America's most admiredand most hated woman—and wins the Nobel Peace Prize.Jane Addams (1860-1935) was a leading statesperson in an era when few imagined such possibilities for women. In this fresh interpretation, the first full biography of Addams in nearly forty years, Louise W. Knight shows Addams's boldness, creativity, and tenacity as she sought ways to put the ideals of democracy into action. Starting in Chicago as a co-founder of the nation's first settlement house, Hull House—a community center where people of all classes and ethnicities could gather—Addams became a grassroots organizer and a partner of trade unionists, women, immigrants, and African Americans seeking social justice. In time she emerged as a progressive political force; an advocate for women's suffrage; an advisor to presidents; a co-founder of civil rights organizations, including the NAACP; and a leader for international peace. Written as a fast-paced narrative, Jane Addams traces how one woman worked with others to make a difference in the world. 32 black-and-white illustrations ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent history & insightful
Louise Knight's is a highly readable, very well-written book that captures in 200 pages the essence and scope of one of the greatest women the United States has ever produced: Jane Addams. Not only does one learn about the historical context in which Addams lived (and indeed, which she helped shape) from the late 19th to the early 20th centuries around labor reform, women's suffrage, immigration, peace, social philosophy, and new bottom-up tactics in effecting political change, but Knight provides intimate insights into the evolution of the upper-class-bred Addams into a woman of the people and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.Knight takes nothing Addams said or did at face value, providing the historian's needed "detective work" to ferret out the whys and wherefores of Addams' actions.

To provide but two of many examples, Knight notes that in a speech Addams gave in 1896 following the violent Pullman strike, Addams used the word "power" in what was for her a new context, that of "Pullman's 'power' to build the town of Pullman and... his failture to recognize the legitimacy" of his own workers'/tenants' demands.Knight: "'Power' was a word Addams had previously used to refer to character.Growing up, she had dreamed of achieving that kind of personal power, but she had no conscious experience with other kinds of power.Sheltered within her family, she had not seen the power the family's wealth gave it economically and socially, nor seen the other kinds of power her father's influence as a politican created. She lived on the safe side of impersonal power, oblivious and innocent. Why did she see it now?"With this question, Knight takes the inquiry (and the reader) even further, finding clues in a related speech Addams delivered where Addams experienced a "moment of blinding insight" in which she recognized, through the lens of examining the oppression of women, that social hierarchy of any kind is the source of all conflict. She quotes Addams as describing women, in a dramatic metaphor, as "chained down by a military code," leading her down the path of realizing that hierarchy in action -- not just men over women, but boss over worker, native born over immigrant, war lord over civilian -- is wrong. (See pp. 94-96).Viewed in this way, it becomes easy for the reader to understand how it was that Addams always seemed so new and contemporary. She never allowed herself to become a prisoner of dogma and formality.

Knight provides the same sort of probing analysis of Addams' thought and action in discussing a book Addams wrote toward the end of her life, "The Excellent Becomes the Permanent," a collection of speeches Addams gave at memorial services. (See pp. 258-9) Knight: "[Addams] said in her introduction that she intended the book to answer a question she was often asked: Did she believe in life after death?... She never actually answered the question in the book..." However, "her book title gave her real answer: Achieving moral excellence was the path to living eternally.... The addresses in 'Excellent' capture, for the most part, the way each person being memoralized had lived with just that kind of bold passion."

One might say by extension that Addams herself lived with "bold passion."Knight writes in this segment that Addams "liked to treat herself as a mystery to be studied."Louise Knight has expertly unravelled the "mystery" that is Addams by delving into the motivations and evolved thought processes that led to Addams' very brave, often unpopular actions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jane Addams - The "Spirit" of Progessive Values
I enjoyed this book so much I feel compelled to do a review. There is nothing about Jane Addams upbringing that would predict her leadership role in women's sufferage, civil rights, an advocate for child labor laws and education and international peace. Her family was well-to-do, but not robber-baron wealthy, yet she founded Hull House with her own funds, thereafter supporting herself from writing and speaking engagements. I found her internal philosophical reckoning to be compelling. She sought philosophical/ethical underpinnings to reconcile herself to what she was often already doing or advocating, yet somewhat unusual for that era, her compulsion toward public service was not based in personal religious beliefs.

While the book paints a full picture of her range of intellectual and advocacy pursuits, it doesn't shy away from her failings. For an egregious example, in 1899, a rash of lynchings occurred across the country and not just in the South. Perhaps because of a lack of personal knowledge, perhaps because of her own prejudices, her writings and advocacy were intended for white Southerners as an audience and took a tone of concern about the lack of due process of the mob, not the lynching itself or the torture, inequality and innocent victims of lynching. In the same year, her protests regarding the Filipino-American war did not take on the outdated tenents of "benevolent assimulation."

Louise Knight has woven the story of this complex, intelligent woman with her internal ethical debates into a highly readable book that presents Addams and her advocacy within the frame of her time's events. She met and corresponded with Presidents, intellectuals and leaders of her day, as well those emigrants participating in Hull House resources. A really interesting, engaging book I enjoyed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jane Addams: Progressive!!!
Last night I listened to Bill O'Reilly denigrate "Progressive Values" on Fox News. But if YOU are the least bit confused by the term "Progressive Values," if you wonder if YOU want to be called "a Progressive" yourself, then this really is the book for you!

Me, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind how Jane Addams would vote in November if she were here to do so in person.

Quoted from the Postscript: "On the whole, history confirmed that the fears of conservatives were unfounded. The end of child labor, which Congress banned in 1938, did not force major industries out of business; women's ability to vote did not destroy the family; federal old-age pensions, the federal minimum wage, and state unemployment insurance did not destroy the American capitalist system... On the other hand, seventy-five years after her death, many of the problems worked on by Addams and other reformers, of both genders and of every class and race, remain unfinished..."

Enthusiasm gap???Not if YOU read THIS book!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars REALLY ENJOYED IT!
I was afraid this would be a silly book, but I found it had a lot of substance, good characters and kept the interest! Great job!

5-0 out of 5 stars I definitely judged this book by the cover
Wow.This book was much better than I expected. I picked it up in the new books section at the library because the cover is cute!It starts off with three friends on their way, separately, to a board meeting for Glamour, the company they founded. They hate each others guts and cannot wait to duke it out.Next chapter--skip back 10 years, to when they first met in high school. They all go to the same school, where movie star's, people in government, and other rich people's kids go.Sally is the pretty one, Jane is the smart one, and Helen is the exotic one.One by one, bad things happen to each girl and this story is about how each one copes with these things themselves and with their friends...their sisters. It's about this perfect friendship, each friend with their own strengths, each one with their own problems, and how in the end, they aren't really complete without each other. This is a great book that I would definitely recommend! :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun!
This was a really enjoyable read! I've never read Jackie Collins, but would liken it to what I hear about her novels - big Hollywood glamour, lots and lots of money, gorgeous men and women, subplots and revenge, and lots of good lovin.' The basic plot is that 3 teen girls meet at a prestigious Beverly Hills finishing school and form a friendship that, eventually, leads them to open a store called GLAMOUR. The story follows each of the girls individually and as a group, from about age 17 to age 25. There are a lot of changes that each of the girls goes through, and the character development is really a strong point in this book. You definitely start out loving each girl - Sally, Helen, and Jane - but, by the end I, at least, really disliked one of the girls a lot. It was a testimony to the writer and how well she developed the girls' characters. There was love and romance, friendship, and an ending that was appropriate and satisfying. My only complaint .. I wish the girls had been older. I'm not 17 and doubt that age group would read this story, so the young characters felt a bit distant from me, and their exploits were hard to believe given their age. But, overall it was a wonderful escapist read and I couldn't finish it fast enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars intriguing character study
The three young girls meet at a posh Beverly Hills high school because they are the outsiders; undesirables not good enough to mingle with the rest of the affluent student body. Thus Texan Sally Lassiter, Englishwoman Jane Morgan and Jordanian Helen Yanna form their own pact to help each other survive the bullying barracudas and harassing sharks. However, finances force Sally and Jane to drop out and Helen is packed off in marriage to live in the Middle East.

Over the next few years separately all three obtain business success with Sally a designer, Jane a corporate officer, and Haya (formerly Helen) an international carpet seller.A decade later, the trio meets in Los Angeles; where they concoct a concept to combine their skills to open up a luxurious shop GLAMOUR.While the store is extremely successful, the partners never recapture the level of friendship they had as teens and drift in separate directions while taking potshots at one another.

The obvious homage to Sex and the City is throughout this intriguing character study, but Louise Bagshawe puts her own spin on affluence and trysts. The three prime players contain differing personalities. As teens they need to bond with someone in similar dire straits, but as late twenties with professional success, they no longer need one another.Although there are some cul de sac scenes that feel like padding, fans of women's modern fiction will enjoy following the exploits of three women in Los Angeles.

Product Description
Louise Bourgeois is among the most prominent contemporary sculptors. Strongly influenced by surrealism, abstract expressionism, and minimalism, her work focuses on the exploration of her psyche. A recurring theme is her troubled childhood and difficult relationship with her father.Despite early success, she did not receive widespread acclaim until the ’70s. Her 1982 exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art was the museum’s first-ever retrospective of a woman artist. Since then, she has exhibited worldwide, producing a beguiling body of work featuring spiders, cages, architectural sculptures, drawings, and found objects ranging in scale from intimate to monumental. Her staggering variety of mediums includes rubber, wood, stone, metal, and fabric. In 1993, she represented the United States at the Venice Biennale. This book accompanies a major retrospective touring exhibition. An overview of Bourgeois’s career, it covers individual works, art movements, other artists, and themes that have played an important role in her life and art, with text by acclaimed authors and critics, including Julia Kristeva, Elisabeth Lebovici, Frances Morris, Mignon Nixon, Linda Nochlin, Robert Storr, Alex Potts, Marina Warner, and Deborah Wye. 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!!!
In this book, Louise deals with 10 subjects such as: Healing from Dis-ease, Dealing with Injury and Pain, Overcoming Addictions, Attracting Prosperity, Handling Career Challenges, Working with Children and Family Issues, Learning to Love, Achieving Mental Wellness, Transforming Old Beliefs and Finding Purpose of One's Life.

In each chapter, as per the issue, she shares with us (= the readers) the letters from people who describe their difficult situations; for some of them, committing suicide seemed to be the only exit from their hopeless situation. But Life (or the Universe) wanted them to get in touch with Louise's work; i. e. her explanations together with the power of affirmations.

As Louise says, it takes time to obtain a full-grown plant from a seed, so these people describe often their 20 years (or more) pathway of evolution.I think that people who are new to the power of affirmations in order to obtain results in their real life, they would not have believed in the veracity of those peoples' stories at first place! If I had not experienced such improvements in my own life thanks to the affirmations I have been repeating since 1999, I would have said that this book is an advertisement for the author only.

As far I am concerned, I can say that "I CAN DO IT" book became my little bible: it is my kaleidoscope of Life.Louise Hay deals with 8 essential topics: Health, Forgiveness, Creativity, Prosperity, Job Success, Romantic Relationships, Stress-Free Life, Self-Esteem.At the beginning of each chapter, she gives explanations about each subject and ends the chapter with 20 affirmations. At each affirmation, I give to myself a mark over 10 (1 is minimum, 10 is maximum), so this scale shows me how far I am on the spiritual growth path. When I make a progress from 8 over 10 to 10 over 10, for example, which takes me some weeks or months (it depends on the difficulty of the subject and the speed of my evolution), then I am very glad. When I am able to give to myself 10 over 10 at each and every subject, then I would be able to say that all of my needs are fulfilled.

To conclude my review, I must say that when I was repeating Louise's affirmations, I was just wondering myself where did she take these affirmations from? They seem to stem from Pharaohs treasures...

We won't have enough days to be thankful for Louise's priceless knowledge she generously shared with us about all of the parts of Life.God bless her forevermore!

4-0 out of 5 stars if her other new book weren't exactly the same...
this review would have been even higher. The testimonials are OK but tend to all sound the same after the first two chapters or do.(I'm also a little disappointed but not surprised by how many of these people work for Hay House.)The exercises are FANTASTIC but they are EXACTLY THE SAME as the ones in her affirmation book that came out at the same time.I LOVE Louise Hay, but she writes the same book over and over again.(After buying 17 of them, I should know.)If you want to give "Weezie" a try, buy You Can Heal Your Life. After all, that's the book all the testimonials praised...

5-0 out of 5 stars As part of my story . . .
This book is a wonderful collection of stories from various people from all over the world that have been touched by Louise Hay's work. I just happen to be one of those people (see page 227). I am Michael. Louise Hay's work helped save my life. Seriously, she saved my life. I was very depressed. I had horrible self esteem and I simply thought I was just useless. But then, I began to read her book "You Can Heal Your Life" and listening to "101 Power Thoughts" and before you knew it. Life didn't seem so bleak.

Now Louise didn't do the work for me, I had to do that myself. But what she did was to help inspire me to believe in myself. She doesn't even know who I am, yet she has touched me in ways that she may never, ever know. My life changed because Louise Hay listened to that call many years ago by writing and publishing "You Can Heal Your Life."

I believe God saw where I would be and called upon Louise Hay to do her work many years ago. For such a time as this. She could have easily said "no, I can't do this." But she didn't and because of that, I am here today writing the first review of this book. It is awe inspiring to know how many lives Louise Hay has touched. I am just one among millions.

Please buy this book. Not only is it a good read, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Hay Foundation. You won't be disappointed.Like me, you may even be inspired to write your own book to help inspire people just like Louise Hay!

Peace to you!

But Georgia and Jas are really just looking forward to this trip because they're hoping to find Georgia's luuuuuuuuuuurrrrvvvveeeee god, Masimo, while the rest of the family look forward to the clown-car convention.

When it comes down to Georgia seeing Masimo, she'll do anything, and I mean anything. She goes to a dance club to see him and she's wearing shoes that are way too small for her feet because they just went perfectly with her outfit. Even though the night didn't go exactly the way she planned, she sure did learn something from that. It was one of my many favorite chapters in the book. That chapter was especially funny.

And Then He Ate My Boy Entrancers is one of my favorite books. I would recommend this book to the reader's that like to read a variety of books. Seeing that Georgia is from another county, it gives you a different point of view on the book, the way they talk, and the setting. It's truly a great series to read. But on thing i would recommend is that you should read the first 5 books before you read this one. If you skip right to this one, you miss a lot of little things that make up the whole book. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way. But it's still a fantastic book.

5-0 out of 5 stars She's maaaaaaaad!
The Georgia Nicolson character IS truly MAAAAAAAAAD and this makes for some really good laughs. Actually, I laughed myself so hard I was literally crying and had to hold my belly. Boy Entrancers is hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing in a long while!

5-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is - too funny!
Oh, how clever Louise Rennison is. This hilarious novel reminds me a bit of a stand-up comedian's routine with a plot - of sorts. English teenager, Georgia, (the main character) has her own combination of slang and made up alterations of words that take a bit of getting used to at first. But her descriptions of events, friends, her own family, and life in general are so fast, funny, and furious, I could hardly stop laughing. Of course, it's all very silly, and Georgia comes across as perhaps a little to obsessed with snogging boys, or a bit too dim-witted at times, but then maybe not. In any event, if you like novels that are clearly intended to make you laugh, and you aren't looking for any deep messages except that there is always humor to be found in the strange and sometimes unbelieveably wacky things teenagers do, then this book is for you. Highly recommended for kids over 13 and anyone else who enjoys a good laugh. ... Read more
