The greatest supergroup of all-time!
I've been a fan of Justice Society since the mid-1970s when All-Star Comics 3 was re-released.

They've been updated and brought into modern times.But it's still a talented group of writers and artists that are doing today's stories.

A good series.

Very Mediocre JSA Compilation
Mordru, here's a tip for you. When Wildcat starts mouthing off, kill him. Obliterate him. Erase him from existence. I know what you're thinking, `but Wildcat's a pussycat'. Sure, and you know what's gonna happen. You're gonna find yourself momentarily weakened... as you ALWAYS do... and Wildcat's gonna haul off and punch you in the face, shouting something like, `PAYBACKS A B!TCH'... You're an immortal, ultra-powerful wizard but when Wildcat pastes you with one of his haymakers you're gonna look like a punk and the heroes are gonna chuckle behind your back and Wildcat's gonna tell ALL his loser friends down at whatever greasy pub he hangs at how he punched out Mordru.

This was not one of the better JSA compilations. It started out with more of the sad trials ofAtom Smasher followed by a series of Infinite Crisis tie-ins that go nowhere. Finally the action started with Mordru attacking the wizard Shazam and then going after the disembodied form of Nabu dressed as Dr. Fate and a handful of JSAers. Meanwhile another crew is out searching the fifth dimension looking for Jakeem Thunder who disappeared during a battle with The Specter.

The JSA and JLA have always had a problem with juggling characters of wildly varying powers. The JSA in particular had the godlike Specter fighting alongside Sandman. Gardner Fox was a brilliant writer but he used to employ an extremely tiresome technique to minimize the heavy hitters in the JLA that included copious amounts of Kryptonite for Superman, fire for J'onn J'onzz and yellow for Green Lantern. Geoff Johns just seems to fill the weaker characters with so much pluck and spunk that no villain would kill them. If I were Mordru I would be laying waste. It's been established that the beings of the fifth dimension have near unlimited power. I mean this is where Mister Mxyztplk hails from. Yet the heroes stoll through strutting as confidently as if they were walking down Main Street at Disney World. Courtney (Star Girl), in particular, is quite a petulant brat to one of the fifth dimensions less friendly residents. He could, say, snap his fingers and cause her to immolate but instead he merely endures it.

Despite being a disjointed mess Mixed Signals has some good points. It advances some storylines and the final tale focussing on the relationship between Star Girl and her adopted father Pat Dugan is a pretty good story. My suggestion for die hard JSA fans is to set your expectations low and you might find it decent.

JSA in transtion
Not the strongest book of the series but still a must read to keep up with the story line. From the last book to this a lot has happen which was tied in with Infinite Crises story arc. It would seem the Spectre has been on the rampage and much turmoil has happen. Dr. Fate missing in action but without having to invest in all the other stories in the IC story arc this book is rather disjointed and empty.

Interesting Mixture
This TPB is an interesting mixture of stories. Each has a relation to Infinite Crisis, but also insights into the heroes, which makes them more three dimensional. In my opinion, the JSA is most fascinating series that DC currently puts out.

One Mixed Up Mess
I am a fan of JSA but this book was an 80% disappointment...We learn that Thunderbolt has a son who is married to 'peachy pet' that cartoon character from the 40's Johnny Thunder...When in the heck did that happen.
Shazam sends Captain Marvel off to find the Spectre..We only see him in three more panels fighting Superman and Batman..Where? How? Why? and we never do see The Spectre..Air Wave and the Green Lanterns go off on some wild escapade and suddenly disappear...There is a great story about Stargirl coming to terms with her family which is why it gets two stars instead of just one...A Bummer... ... Not bad
This story is one of the best ever made by reg Rucka for WW. There's action and intrigue, but to understand better where these mechanic begins come from, or why Themyscira is under siege, you have to buy "Project Omac". The art is really good, the design of the suit for WW at the Hague is elegant and shows good taste. What I didn't understood is why Cheetah appears and what's her goal. Anothe thing I didn't understood is why we see technology in Themyscira when it's forbidden, or, why the gods of the Olympus dress like that and wear things you find on Earth. I recommend this story if you want a lot of action and a good job.

Great Issue!
Probably the 2nd most heart-wrenching WW paperback I've ever read (1st being Paradise Found with the scene of Hippolyta's death). Very realistic emotions flowed through this issue, very sad for the most part, but this *is* WW, so of course Rucka's run ends on a high note of hope!

That decision cascades out of control. Costs her so much and especially as the story culminates in a war on her home front.The reader will see Diana is what she is and does what she says... but shed a tear for the things she needs to do to win thereby demonstrating her humanity in the face of odds that challenge her to hold back, just barely.

Rucka gives us an engrossing heart felt story of courage, heroism and power with top notch coloring pacing and drama. Kudos!

A last battle over Themyscira
When Wonder Woman kills Max Lord for killing several Justice League members as well as controllling Superman; a rogue fighting force is unleashed against the Amazons and her.Standing alone against Brother Eye( a computer program created by Batman to keep watch over the Justice League that went rogue) and OMAC ( a group of hidden soldiers that have now targeted any and all superheroes not following the way of truth and justice) are the women warriors.This is just one of the events that began the whole Infinte Crisis storyline.Another is the death of Sue Didby, the wife of the Elongated Man.Paradise is nearly destroyed but the faith in superheroes is renewed in the end of this book. ... Excellent surprise!
Who would've known that a New Avengers mini-series about Hawkeye and Mockingbird would be so enjoyable? Well, let me tell you that I'm eagerly waiting for the new monthly series about these two characters.

It took me back to the wonderful years of the West Coast Avengers and laid ground for future new storylines.

Excellent plot, amazing art... highly recommended.

Reunited, and it feels so like Hawkeye's gonna get kicked in the melon by Mockingbird
Recently, in the sprawling, hiding-from-the-law saga that is the New Avengers, there have been sightings of Bobbi Morse a.k.a. Agent 19 from S.H.I.E.L.D. a.k.a. Mockingbird, and this makes my cup of fanboy joy brim over. If you're caught up on your Marvel's SECRET INVASION (and no blame to you if you're not), then you got the 411 that Mockingbird actually didn't get killed way back when but, rather, had gotten abducted by Skrulls and replaced with a Skrully doppelganger (who was the one who ended up dying). Or that's the retcon that Bendis is spinning anyway, and I'm not arguing. Bobbi's ex-husband Clint Barton (formerly Hawkeye, now going by "Ronin" and himself barely returned from the dead) is all shades of ecstatic and, being a dude, believes that things between them will now simply revert to blissful marital normalcy. But it ain't so.

Bobbi Morse, not too surprisingly, is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Like all the other abductees, she's had a harrowing time of it. Unlike the other abductees, Mockingbird escaped captivity on Skrull planet and, in her skulking around, managed to unearth invaluable knowledge regarding further threats to Earth.

Back home on Earth, Bobbi also undergoes culture shock, and in striving to find a place in this suddenly unfamiliar Earth she decides to apply the information she'd learned from the Skrulls. But where to go? S.H.I.E.L.D. had just been disbanded. Norman Osborn now runs things with his own shady version of the Avengers and he's steadily amassing his power base. So, Bobbi gathers the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who were also taken and replaced by the Skrulls, and she establishes her own black ops agency dedicated to counterterrorism. She ends up calling it W.C.A., which mildly outrages Clint when he finds out.

Mockingbird needs to be on her own, needs to do her own thing solo. She has trust issues and would rather not rely on Hawkeye or the Avengers. Except that her ex-hubbie isn't about to let this go. Obviously concerned, Clint is bent on having those heart-to-heart moments and on maybe rekindling that old spark. But Bobbi's having none of it, and she eventually drops a heartbreaking revelation which shakes Clint up to the marrow. If you thought there was tension before, oh, man... If you enjoy couples who squabble (but in a sort of witty way), then get a load of the heated arguments and the fighty fights between these two.

And, all the while, Bobbi is haunted by her experiences on the Skrull planet, and certain horrific flashback memories render her even more edgy around Clint. And, by the way, if you were curious as to what point the Skrull switcheroo with Mockingbird happened, the flashbacks in this mini-series pretty clearly place the when and how of the event.

NEW AVENGERS: THE REUNION collects the four-issue mini-series (and stuff from DARK REIGN: NEW NATION). This sucker spins out of the NEW AVENGERS title and the SECRET INVASION crossover mini-series, and it's been a story arc to which I was extremely looking forward. It really upset me when Mockingbird was killed off so cavalierly in the pages of WEST COAST AVENGERS somewhere in the mid-1990s, our real time. Hawkeye and Mockingbird, in my opinion, formed one of the best husband & wife superhero teams, and I had serious affection for them (I also really liked Wanda and the Vision as a couple). Writer Jim McCann revives what makes Clint and Bobbi so great together. Both Clint and Bobbi are trained martial artists, but the sense is that Clint brings a daredevil stance to the table, whereas Bobbi brings meticulous attention-to-detail efficiency. Bobbi is a trained and no-nonsense spy, very much at home with spouting off super-spy jargon. Clint would rather crack jokes. Together, they have this helluva sexy chemistry.

Detritus from the past floats up. The shadow of the Phantom Rider is still mucking things up; it still has a direct bearing on Bobbi and Clint's strained relationship. But, again, Clint isn't the giving-up type. He worms himself into Bobbi's secret mission, and soon the duo is engaged in infiltration and globe-trotting and busting up A.I.M. foot soldiers and trying to get to the mad scientist who's about to set off a dirty bomb. In the midst of snits and recriminations, Mockingbird and Ronin eventually save the world, and while the ending doesn't quite reconcile our protagonists, McCann does leave the readers with a glimmer of hope. And, when it comes to stomping on bad guys, our bickering couple still demonstrate impeccable teamwork.

Regarding one of my all-time favorite Avengers, Clint Barton, I'll be honest and say that I prefer him as Hawkeye. The Ronin thing - okay, I buy that he's an accomplished martial artist, but I don't buy him as a master swordsman (and, yeah, I know the Swordsman gave him some lessons way back in the day). I do think it's neat and even touching that Ronin incorporates skills and weapons that he'd picked up from those he thought he'd lost. But he really shouldn't have whipped out the bo-staff in his skirmish with Bobbi. The bo-staff happens to be Mockingbird's trademark weapon, and she easily takes it away from him.

Jim McCann shows his knack for writing spy thrillers. Mockingbird comes off as an old pro in the cloak & dagger stuff, and there are cool gadgets up the wazoo (Is there really such a thing as an inner ear instantaneous translator device?). In keeping with her fresh new start, Bobbi gets cool new threads, although I don't much care for the rose-tinted shades. Frankly, I dug her old costume more.

Although the end of the mini-series establishes Mockingbird with her own mission statement and with her own spy team, I'm still expecting her to have a presence in the New Avengers. Bendis wouldn't bring her back just to mothball her, right? But I really like THE REUNION mini-series, and I'm so happy that Hawkeye and Mockingbird are sort of together again. Their stuff is certainly more riveting than what's been going on in their counterparts' comic book over at DC.

Hawkeye & Mockingbird spy drama a must read!
A series that reunites Hawkeye (Ronin) and Mockingbird is already a win-win for me, but the cherry-on-top was the tremendous depth in story-telling and dialogue that Jim McCann added to this mini-series. He handled Bobbi's past and continuity beautifully and painfully (both physical and emotional) that I found myself having to catch my breath before reading further (check out Issue #2 with Bobbi's flashback in the shower). McCann successfully combines the superhero and espionage elements of this story seamlessly that you almost feel like you're watching a movie. In addition, I love the fights (actual kick your ass type) between Clint & Bobbi. Hawkeye has always been a favorite character of mine and McCann's voice for him was spot on - snarky, funny, sarcastic, lost, confused and brilliant!

I just love Lopez's art in this series and what these two did to update Mockingbird's look is spectacular to say the least. In addition, the thoughtfulness and application of their spy gear and tech was genius and exciting. I really hope this pair continues to work together and brings us more high-octane, thoughtful, and emotionally charged spy drama.

This quote from CBR sums it up, "This series has been an unexpected hit, and definitely worth picking up. It's the best superhero action movie never made -- and as we know, good superhero movies should always come back with an even better sequel."
