Memories
Phil and I met in the summer of 1950 as junior counselors at Camp Green Top in the Catoctin Mountains in Maryland. Anita Huffington explains the purpose of this camp in her written review. My first experience in hitch-hiking was with Phil, on our "day off", to his home in Baltimore, and then to the historical Gettisburg battlefield. I marveled at Phil's "professional paintings" in his home, accomplished by the age of 16. All junior counselorsenjoyed Phil's musical talents on the camp lodge piano in the evenings. We sang along with Phil while he played classical music of the 1930's and 40's era. Phil's mother kept me informed of Phil's accomplishments for 25 years. Phil and I have kept in touch over the past 35 years. Good Memories !

Fantastic Book
I do wish that younger people would be better acquainted with the writings and sermons of Dr. Lloyd-Jones. This book, The Kingdom of God, is a fantastic compliation of sermons on what is meant by "The Kingdom of God." Taking from various passages in the gospels, Lloyd-Jones exemplifies the joy of knowing and walking with Christ as sons and daughters who believe that gospel message. With constant reverences to modern society, the truths seem to echo through history that while all else changes, social, political, or intellectual trends, the kingdom of God remains that same, as does his saving power for those who believe in him. I would recommend this book to anyone, but most particularly to the younger individuals who need to develop a growing passion for servant leaders of the Christian faith who have adhered to Biblical principles.

Great Book!
This is typical Lloyd-Jones.As with most of his books, these are a series of his sermons that were later transcribed. In my opinion, this is some of his best evangelical preaching. I was once told that if you want to learn how to preach, sit under a great preacher.Well, we can no longer hear the "fire" of the Doctor's voice, but due to this, and the many other books of his sermons published, a young preacher can at least learn how to construct a powerful sermon.In fact, as the art of preaching wanes today, this book is a must read.

Lloyd-Jones was trained originally as a medical doctor, and was a rising star as a diagnostitian in London prior to his call to the ministry.He became such a popular preacher in the 20th century because he used his great skills in diagnosing the ills of the world in which he lived.This book is an example of that, and though these sermons were preached over 30 years ago, they ably show how timeless the Chirstian Gospel is. In the various sermons found in this book, he forcfully and expertly explains what Christianity is and the importance of the Christian message to a world that is falling apart. ... Read more

Eye candy for the clematis lover...
And useful too. Lloyd's book is on the Herronswood Nursery list of 'Recommended readings and references' and if you aren't familiar with Herrenswood you need to check that out too.

If you are thinking vertically, Clematis can be your best friend.These beautiful vines are not invasive, and depending on the species you purchase can tolerate a variety of circumstances. Some bloom once, some in spring and fall, and some throw out a few blossoms all season. Clematis hybrids include soubles and singles as well as large-flowered and small-flowered hybrids (Lloyd covers them all), and some older types that generally have a single showing in spring and then are quiet the rest of the season.They come in a variety of colors ranging from white to dark purple. Some Clematis are not vines at all but herbaceous non-climbing shrubs.

Lloyd is an English gardener with a pedigree--he is considered one of the leading experts on Clematis. He has training as a horticulturist and has been gardening for a very long while.Bennett works for an Environmental Health office and runs a Clematis nursery in Durham England.

I have grown Clematis for years, usually in combination with a climbing rose of some kind and I recommend this book and the Clematis vine. I live in Virginia where roses don't always do well, but the Clematis do...however, don't plant 'Sweet Autumn Clematis' it is classified as an invasive by the Feds.
