Christopher Daniels triumphs with Soul to Soul, the much awaited sequel to his first novel, Teleport This.

In Soul to Soul, Jon, Simon and Lyn continue to trip and stumble across the universe in search of the ultimate margarita and a possible date for their friend Gilbert. As usual, they become tangled up by the universal forces of confusion but that’s to be expected as their perception of string theory stems from their kite flying experience, which is to say very tangled up indeed… ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good early history
This is a short biography of Columbus's early life that can be read in a couple hours. This book is volume 1, and it comes to a stop at the time when he was trying to acquire the ships for his first voyage across the Atlantic. The other volumes are available for the Kindle. There's actually not all that much about Columbus because little is known about his early life. There are long descriptions of his relatives and his hometown of Genoa, and lots of info about previous seafaring voyages of discovery. So, this is well written and it makes enjoyable reading, but don't expect much about Columbus.

Product Description
In Christopher Meeks’s "The Brightest Moon of the Century," Edward, a young Minnesotan, is blessed with an abundance of “experience”—first when his mother dies and next when his father, an encyclopedia salesman, shoehorns Edward into a private boys school where he’s tortured and groomed.

Edward needs a place in the universe, but he also wants an understanding of women. He stumbles into romance in high school, careens through dorm life in college, whirls into a tornado of love problems as a mini-mart owner in a trailer park in Alabama, and aims for a film career in Los Angeles.

In nine chapters, the reader experiences Edward’s life from ages 14 to 45.This is the first novel from Christopher Meeks, which follows his highly acclaimed collections of short stories, "The Middle-Aged Man and the Sea" and "Months and Seasons."

1-0 out of 5 stars Borrrring ! !
Very slow and horribly boring.Had I not spent 2.99 for it I would have deleted it way before I did.
I kept expecting the book to get better but it remained the same thru out. Unbearable.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to literary fiction collections
The man's quest to understand women is something that may take decades. "The Brightest Moon of the Century" tells the story of Edward, as the first novel from acclaimed short story author Christopher Meeks follows Edward through his life in boarding school to the pursuit of his dreams in Hollywood and the reality of being a convenience store owner. Charming and endlessly entertaining, "The Brightest Moon of the Century" is a fine read that is an excellent addition to literary fiction collections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cover to cover, a great read
While looking for John Irving's new book, I stumbled on the link to C.Meeks' book and from the reviews, took a chance. It was worth the money and risk because I've found a great talent and look forward to reading his short stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Buy Every Book Written by Christopher Meeks
It's hard to put it into words. For me, that is, certainly not for Christopher Meeks.

I kept seeing Holden Caulfield flailing around in my mind as I read this story. Edward isn't quite the dropout that Holden was, but they do look at the world through a unique prism. I think the best part of Edward's personality is that he's so believable. He is so much like all of us, or at least we all share some characteristics with him.

The trailer park episode is my favorite, but the whole book is a rewarding read. Hopefully, we can spread the word about this wonderful author. The world needs to hear about Christopher Meeks and his captivating stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unique Coming of Age Story
Chris Meeks melds his mastery of short stories with a coming of age tale in his first novel. The reader is invited to follow Edward from his awkward and insecure youth into the often awkward and insecure middle years of his life. Each section of the novel covers the mushroom cloud events that shape Edward's life and character, and each section reads a little like a snapshot, or stand alone short story. The story of the young Edward was familiar to me as he has appeared in Meeks prior short story compilations.

Moon is definitely a coming of age story but it doesn't span a single summer or a handful of years. Instead it is a journey and very realistically portrayed one at that. After all, humans are creatures who hopefully never stop learning and change slowly into better people once they absorb some life lessons. Meeks has chosen some fascinating pivot points in Edward's life, spending pages on the set up of a mini-mart and then resorting to mere paragraphs to narrate other huge life events.

Squeamish and sensitive readers should be aware of some language and quite a bit of sexuality. For example, Meeks pulls few punches when narrating Edward's epiphany at a sperm bank.

Overall, Meeks tells a good story with believable characters. Readers who love melancholy voices should find quite a bit to like in Brightest Moon. Having just finished it I can say I'm happy for Edward's upbeat hope though the ending is less than happily ever after. ... Read more

51. Christopher Marlowe and Thomas Kyd - Elizabethan Dramatists

Product Description
The Ghosts of Men is the tragic and real life sinister story of two brilliant and very well educated men, who were the Elizabethan Dramatists named Christopher Marlowe and Thomas Kyd, who shared a writing chamber together in London in 591 and wrote their dramatic works. Both were successful even before William Shakespeare reached the peak of his career as a Dramatist.

Thomas Kyd, the son of a Scrivener and Court letter writer, who lived in Lombard Street, London, had attended Merchant Taylor's school in London, and was able to write in several foreign languages. Kyd was the first to be arrested on 12th May 1593 and he was tortured at Newgate prison in London, concerning his dramatic works. Kyd's his co-writer, Christopher Marlowe (a dear friend of Sir Walter Raleigh), meanwhile was arrested and kept under house arrest at the home of his former patron, Sir Thomas Walsingham, at Scadbury, Chiselhurst on 18th May 1593 and murdered when he went out to supper at Deptford Strand, on 30th May 1593, with Walsingham's servant Ingram Frizer. Both men were accused and examined concerning seditious and heretical writing, but there is more to discover concerning the mystery surrounding Christopher Marlowe's murder, and the reason why his murderer was pardoned by Queen Elizabeth I, after an Inquest into his murder.

William Shakespeare also lived in the Elizabethan era and all three dramatists lived in London and shared fame at the same time, and Kyd and Marlowe probably did know Shakespeare.

For further reading please refer to Hic Jacet (Sir Walter Raleigh 1552-1618) (605 pages) by Barbara O'Sullivan (isbn 978-0-9559912-4-0) and The King's Quinto (Sir Walter Raleigh 15521618) (203 pages) Barbara O'Sullivan (isbn 978-09559761-7.

One play in particular is brought to light, being the play Sir Thomas More, and it is likely that Thomas Kyd was one of the authors listed as the five dramatists who wrote the play, although William Shakespeare was commonly thought to be the author. The play sir Thomas More is accepted as the only literary manuscript to survive from the pen of England’s greatest playwright and is known as Harley MS 7368, and this could be the reason why Thomas Kyd's life was cut short after his torture, and his dramatic works were confiscated by the Star Chamber of Queen Elizabeth's government. It is also to be remembered that there was no copyright in Elizabethan times.

By 30th May 1593 Christopher Marlowe was dead at the age of 29, and his co-writer Kyd was buried on 15th August 1594 at the age of 36.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Bunch!
I have read all of Christopher Moore's novels and have even met the man on several occasions while in Bangkok. It is important to note that this is not a Vincent Calvino novel. The central characters are an American expat that has a high level management job (telecommunications) in Bangkok, his US educated Thai girlfriend, the girlfriend's high society family (who are not quite gangsters) and former college professor that is looking for a wife in Bangkok.

What I really like about this book is how the fictional elements mirrored real life events.I read the novel shortly after release when the Asian currency crisis was wrecking havoc on the Thai economy (The Thai Baht went from 25 to the Dollar to 55 to the Dollar and there were mass layoffs, which caused some of the legions of corporate "office ladies" to look for work in high end hostess clubs). There is an interesting plot along with several sub plots.

4-0 out of 5 stars Columbus redux
This was an interesting read.I downloaded it just after i bought my Kindle 2.It was comprehensive & covered information I had forgotten (I'm in my 60's) or never knew. However, I began to grow weary of the reading level at which it was written. It seemed to be directed at 12-15 year olds, like maybe the author was an elementary or middle school teacher.Other than that it was a fine, fun, fast read of the dude who was pretty sure the world didn't end at the horizon and his trials and tribulation to prove it. ...
