of little help
I bought this book after being on Facebook for a little while, thinking it would help me understand what I was doing... instead it talked about business applications and how it could be best used in business applications; didn't give me any info on what I needed to know.

Facebook itself is so strange to me anyway, with all its convolutions and different applications, that I thought this book "I'm on Facebook, Now What" would tell me what those convolutions and such were all about, but it didn't help me at all. However, if one is using it for business purposes, maybe this book will help those.

EXCELLENT BOOK!
I read this book from cover to cover I learn a lot about Facebook. I became sorta addicted to Facebook. After four weeks I had to find a way to block facebook. Right now I downloaded this program [...] to help me with my addiction ;-(

Over rated
I was really disappointed in this very tiny book. There were more links to information then there was information. At times we are told things to do but not HOW to do them. Perhaps because Facebook has changed. I didn't find enough value to even keep the book.

Outdated, superficial, trite.
This book is very clearly self-published and, in my opinion, sought to make a quick buck when Facebook opened its gateway to anyone who wanted to join.

Published in 2007, the contents are very much outdated. Many features and particularly the user interface they describe are long gone. The subjects are scatter shot with no real focus (and, frankly, no real value).

In some ways, this is nothing but a list of links of to blogs and other online resources. There is little actual instruction in terms of using Facebook.

There are way too many sidebars from people, mostly in the recruitment business like one of the authors, who essentially gush with meaningless praise for Facebook.

The authors pose pseudo-profound questions like "What are the most important things I must do on Facebook to ensure it is useful for me?" (The writing style throughout follows this stilted form.) The responses often sound like what you'd find in a fortune cookie: "In order to answer this question you need to define "useful"". (The missing comma is typical of the poor grammar, syntax and punctuation throughout.)

Save your money. Get "Facebook Fanatic", "Facebook for Dummies" or "Facebook: The Missing Manual". All are vastly superior to "I'm on Facebook - now what?"

Too Dated to be Helpful
I was looking for a short book about Facebook. After only about three pages I realized this book is woefully out of date even though it has only been in print for a little over a year.The face of social networking, especially Facebook, has changed so rapidly that the information contained here only provides, at best, vague direction in using Facebook.Facebook made major changes again to their site in March of 2009, which even further dated this book (I bought this book before those changes).I would recommend looking for a book about Facebook with the most recent publish date.http://salesvitamins.com ... Useful IF you are the right audience, otherwise skip it
While C# programming is not the focus of this book I did find it quite useful as a learning vehicle for advanced .NET topics and as a companion book to a C# Language reference. For all you programmers I liken it to asking the resident guru how to do something who invariable responds with an answer that is more or less but never precisely what you actually need. With that in mind the book is similar and thus compels you to debug or fill in the gaps for the missing or non-working program logic. One thing for sure you for prerequisites you are well advised to have a decent background of Visual Studio .NET, C/C++, Threads, and Sockets programming too. Without these core understanding I suspect the gaps will be quite difficult to fill.

With that said if you are just looking for heaps of boilerplate code or functional snippets there are plenty of websites you can Google with downloadable source code you can learn from.

It is dissappointing nonetheless tha publisher decided NOT to provide the Sample program updates. For $49 bucks multiplied by the units sold, it would seem a pretty simple proposition.

Poor efforts
This book I though would give me inside out of the C#. However, half of the book is filled with excerpts of the full source code that is available on the CD. I tried an example code in Chapter 5 that creates a TCPClient, it did not work. The website [website] where the member area is located, doesn't contain any usefull links rather update your profile. While registering, the website gave a SQL Server ODBC error that it could not save the record. However strangely I received confirmation e-mail even after the ODBC error occured. Overall, I am not satisfied with this book. Its just waste of money.

Another fine example of textbook padding to generate sales
This text is meant as a general overview of the .net framework but it also delves into source code to provide more detailed examples.Unfortunately, this only serves to confuse the reader as many of the examples are not cohesive or clearly explained.There is little benefit in smearing examples over half the textbook if you are not going to take the time to explain them properly. It seems as this was a rush to market product where the examples only serve to make the book thicker.The authors should have made up their minds initially if the text was meant to be an overview or a detailed "how-to" book.

Details are missing
For topics that I am not familiar with I feel that a lot of details are missing.As such I read the new topic's chapter up to 4 times to ultimately feel that I need another source.As such I consider this book to be a good reference book.

On a more positive note the examples that the book gives are abundant and could serve as a starting point for your own development.

Great Overview
This book is an excellent introduction to many topics including the .net framework, VS.net IDE, Windows Forms, Remoting, MSMQ, ADO.net, ASP.net, Web services and more. There is also a 60 or so page chapter on C# programming.
This book was published before VS.net was released and all the references are made to the beta.
The writing style is very clear and the book is an easy read. Each chapter has a summary of key concepts as well as a short FAQ section at the end.
The code examples are all in C# of course.
This book is best suited as an introduction to .net technologies for an already at least moderately-savvy professional. This book will not make you a .net guru ready to jump and develop .net enterprise solutions. But it will help you understand all the new "buzz words" and explain key concepts. After reading this book, it will be a lot easier to understand which book you need to pick up next to get into the details.
This is also not the best book for a total beginner. A lot of knowledge is already assumed. A lot of differences are pointed out between asp and asp.net for example, or between C# and C++. A person with previous knowledge in these areas will benefit from there comparisons but they will only help confuse someone who is just trying to grasp everything from scratch.
All in all, I think this is a great book - books like this are needed, in that they give a great overview and don't spend 500 pages exhausting one particular topic when you just wanted to know the basics and put all the pieces together. Anyone who buys this book with this in mind will not be dissappointed. ... Read more

A great Science Fiction Read
Written in the style of old Science Fiction from the 50s, we have some wacko characters who seemingly have nothing to do with each other or even the book at times, but the author manages to bring them together to make a credible tale that is amusing and believable. There are plenty of pokes at the Government and those who work for it as they drown in their misinformation and we see that the aliens that surround us have the same problems with greed that we do. There is even some light romance to spice the book up. As should always be, good triumphs over evil in the end, but we known it will spring up again, which will give the hero's in this book a reason to come back in a sequel.
This is a great effort for a first time author and I hope to see more by him. If you want some light and funny reading, this will certainly fill the bill.

MIC - Great for newcomers
Microbially Influenced Corrosion provides a strong overview of the topic.For engineers and microbiologists new to the topic, it's a fine survey.Like any monograph that attempts to cover an area of research in which new information is becoming available, readers who have been keeping current in MIC research will find the information a bit dated.However, the excellent tables and photomicrographs do a wonderful job of illustrating MIC concepts for those who aren't aware of the range of effects that microbes can have on infrastructure integrity.Treatment of a diverse range of materials - includingconcrete and polymer-fiber composites (AKA Fiberglass) - is particularly helpful for those of us who spend considerable time explaining than MIC of metals is only part of the story.
The tome is well written, and well illustrated.

A REALLY GREAT BOOK!!!
LL&L is the Year of the Ally book for Vampire: the Dark Ages. While I'm a fan of White Wolf, this product doesn't offer much to make it stand out from the "average" WW sourcebook. Sure, you get the nice art on the cover and the interior, but you expect that from WW. What's important is the substance.

Liege, Lord, and Lackey does have substance. After the expected opening piece of fiction, you get an entire chapter on how each Clan treats its ghouls and retainers (and why sometimes you don't want to be a ghoul, or to ghoul all of your allies) and what kinds of followers they tend to attract. It can be useful for kickstarting the imaginations of GMs and players, although a lot of it could be inferred from other books (specifically Ghouls: the Fatal Addiction). The chapter is amusing to read, though. Each Clan gets its own paragraph or two of flavor text (to borrow a term from CCGs).

The second chapter is a fairly in-depth explanation of how medieval society works in the WoD, which can be useful for those of us who aren't familiar with "realistic" medieval society or who don't want to lug their copies of Pendragon or old Ars Magica supplements to our Vampire games. The information has a good home here, although it probably would have been better placed in the main rules (perhaps distilled and replacing that wierd bit of text on vampires building labyrinths). Bits in this chapter include criminals, the poor, Jews, and explain just what the heck a seneschal does. Important stuff if you want to run in Medieval England instead of the Forgotten Realms. Tips for all-Ally chronicles and adventures round out the chapter.

The third chapter is character creation, and again I'm left with the question "Why would I want to play a mortal in Vampire?" Sure, there's new Hedge Magic (how about just publishing one book with all the hedge magic in it and then dropping it?) and a couple of new merits and flaws which would be useful in the game even if it's rather unclear why a character would be soothing *only* to Frenzying vampires. And new skills, of course.

The fourth chapter explains the other Creatures of the Night (or early dusk) and what kind of servants they make (pretty poor ones, in general). It's nothing revolutionary, although it turns out that werewolves can be Blood Bound in the Dark Ages, but not in the modern world. At least one White Wolf staffer has said this is not an accident or a mistake. Hm....

If you're interested in playing or running a Ghoul-heavy Dark Ages campaign, you might want to pick this one up (along with "Ghouls", which is referenced at least once that I remember). If you're only interested in the bits on the functioning of medieval society, there was an Ars Magica supplement called, IIRC, The Medieval Handbook (or maybe Guidebook) that went into much more detail, it just may be hard to find since that was a couple of editions ago. A better route for White Wolf might have been to make a Dark Ages World of Darkness book and then puff up Ghouls a little more with a few paragraphs of Dark Ages information. As it stands, though, LL&L is a useful if not great supplement for V:tDA. ... Read more
