4-0 out of 5 stars Little Miss Neat
Little Miss Neat, by Roger Hargreaves, is a fun book to read. I would recommend this book to children that are three to seven years old. I recommend this book to children these ages because it is a funny, short book. Also, the book includes good life lessons. This story is an illustration of how the difference of personalities of people will not mess up friendships. Also, it shows how people should accept traits that set others apart from them. This book is very cute and has good lessons. It is a very short book, so it won't bore children. It is also a book that asks the children questions, so they can respond to the book. I have loved this book since I was a little child, and I still love it today! If you buy this book, which you should, you won't regret it!

2-0 out of 5 stars Mostly harmless
In this book, the compulsively clean Little Miss Neat goes away on vacation. While she is gone, Mr. Muddle stops in for a visit and makes himself a cup of tea, inadvertently rearranging her kitchen in the process. When she returns, Little Miss Neat is exasperated to find everything in the wrong place, and she talks to Mr. Muddle and figures out what happened.

This is a straightforward, simple book that children should be able to follow and enjoy. The series is similar to the Sweet Pickles books, in that it revolves around characters who exhibit certain traits, but I think that the simpler illustrations in this series might fail to hold the interest of a child young enough to enjoy the story.

You might buy a single book in this series to see if it clicks for your child, but I wouldn't go crazy on the investment unless it's something that he or she really enjoys. In my opinion, there are better books out there, whether you're looking for a book that's entertaining, informative, or morally instructive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read to Your Child for Improving Bonding and Intellect!
Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading andimproved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, your child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate betterto others. Intellectual performance will expand as well. Spending timetogether watching television fails as a substitute.

To help otherparents apply this advice, as a parent of four I consulted an expert, ouryoungest child, and asked her to share with me her favorite books that wereread to her as a young child. Little Miss Neat was one of her picks.

Iwas surprised that my daughter picked this book because it has some aspetsthat could concern a sensitive child.Let me explain.Little Miss Neatwas a very tidy person. She was really good at cleaning up her home.Evenwhen she cleaned up a mess, she picked up after herself. One day, she wentaway on vacation.Mr. Muddle came to visit while she was away, and somehowgot into the house. He made himself some tea, and left everything in thewrong place. When Little Miss Neat returned, she could tell from themisplaced items that Mr. Muddle must have visited.A telephone callconfirms that.

Would your child like the idea of having someone be ableto get into your house?I guess Mr. Muddle isn't too threatening.Infact, this book may subtly reduce your child's fear of unexpectedevents.

On the other hand, the book is hilarious!Little Miss Neat has areal problem with compulsiveness. My daughter used to find her very funny. Her favorite gag was Little Miss Neat spending a whole day polishing hersuitcase.

Mr. Muddle is sort of a backwards fellow. He says Good-byewhen he reaches someone on the phone, and says Hello at the end of theconversation. He left the teapot in the refrigerator, the milk in theteapot, the tea in the sugar bowl, the sugar in the milk bottle, the cup inthe oven, the saucer in the breadbox, and the utensils under her cushion. My daughter couldn't stop laughing during that sequence.

Overcome yourmisconception that children cannot learn through humor how to overcometheir sense that all people need to be just like them.

Enjoy!

The funny thing about all of Roger Hargreaves' Mr. Men and Little Miss storybooks is that in some way or another they remind us of someone we know.We all know a Little Miss Neat--her neurotic pursuit of cleanliness and obsessiveness with order is quite humourous. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully surprised..
Emma Thomson has written over 50 stories in the little paperback chapter book editions of Felicity Wishes, but is known more perhaps for her Pop Up Books in the Felicity Range. I need to tell you how good these little chapter books are, and how perfect they are as short stories to read to children age 4-10 or so. I am an adult and have read them all because they are delightfully innocent and spread good wishes and advice to young girls throughout the stories. They are also quaint and quite funny...Emma is a wonderful writer. I am an Early Childhood Teacher and would recommened these books wholely. The stories aren't based around a plot of good versus evil or have any sinister characters. They are light and refreshing and explore so many aspects of the world and life. These are a lot better than many OTHER chapter books for tween girls out there that encourage and portray bratty or spoiled behaviour. These books are sweet and uplifting and remind me of what is good in the world, and how old fashioned stories for children used to be. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars compelling mystery
After reading the first mystery in the series, Appalachian Twilight, I have been waiting for another book.Broken Circle is even better than the first.Once I began reading, I could not put it down. The author artfully wound a ghost story, a love story, and a murder mystery into one sensational novel. It was marvelous. Now, I have to wait for another in the series.Hurry up P.
